Chapter 14: Chap 14 – Divine punishment

"No excuses, I demand your immediate execution. Disobey and you'll burn in hell. No exceptions."

"What did I do wrong?" I asked.

"You attacked one of our allies," he replied in a fury.

After that, he drew his sword and attacked me.

I defended using my sword, then returned the attack; we circled each other as if dancing. After a few minutes of intense combat, I managed to get in close enough for an attack, but he blocked it with ease. He was faster than me. My guard was up, though, so when I tried again, he didn't block my blade this time. I raised it and plunged into his stomach.

He grunted and staggered back, blood seeping out from beneath his armor.

His face twisted in rage, and he charged at me with a roar.

I dodged to the side and swung my sword at him. The tip hit his shoulder, which caused him to stumble backward.

He recovered quickly and came at me again. This time, however, I was ready. I blocked his attacks and countered with a thrust straight through his chest.

"In the name of the Holy Church, I curse you, Albert! You will die tonight!"

He used his electricity magic.

Elly ran up and tried to stop him, but he pushed her aside.

"Damn you!"

Johann swung his sword again.

I used my shield to block the strike.

But the impact sent me flying backward.

"Ahhh…"

"You're going straight to hell, Albert."

I stood up.

"I won't let you get away with this, Johann."

"Fine, then. I'll kill you here and now."

Electricity flew through the air.

It wasn't strong, but it still hurt.

I jumped back to avoid more shocks.

Johann was getting angry. His face turned red.

 

Then he pulled out something from under his robe—a wand.

An object with runes engraved on it.

"Die!" shouted Johann.

Suddenly, an explosion happened right behind him.

"…Huh?"

A giant fireball appeared before me.

"Albert, get out of here!" yelled Elly.

I used ice magic to get rid of the flames.

"Sorry about this. It seems they've been watching you lately."

"Who?"

"Those people who wear those white robes."

They were priests, wearing white clothes.

They were the ones responsible for the fire.

It's time for me to use all my magic abilities.

I released my ice magic.

A cold wind blew across the city.

The temperature dropped sharply.

Ice crystals formed everywhere.

Soon, everything became covered in frost.

I could see the heat waves rising from the ground.

"Damn you!" screamed Johann.

"This is only the beginning, Johann," I said calmly.

"I'll give you one last chance," I said, "If you promise not to harm any of my friends, we can talk."

"I'll never make such a deal with someone like you!" shouted Johann.

"Fine."

With that, I used my ice magic.

Everything froze again.

The frost spread along the entire road.

Now Johann couldn't move.

"S-Stop!"

I ignored him and moved closer to him.

"Please stop!"

After freezing it, I called Elly and asked her to take it to the police.

I'm not ready to kill someone yet. Not even someone as evil as Johann.

"Are you alright?"

Elly approached me.

She was able to defeat the people who were wearing white clothes.

She helped me stand up.

"Yeah, sorry about that."

"Don't worry about it, Master."

She smiled kindly.

That was enough to calm me down.

I got home and my mom was there.

"Albert, what happened to your arm? Are you okay?"

"Nothing much. Just a little burned."

"Well, come inside."

Even though she knew the wounds were small, my mother started putting on a dressing kit to ensure I was taken care of.

I explained the events of the day.

"So Johann tried to execute you today?"

"Yes," I replied.

"How awful!" she exclaimed.

"I told you, Mother. I have no regrets."

"Oh?"

Once she was finished with the dressings, I went to my room.

My head was spinning from the whole ordeal.

Why Johann had been trying to kill me.

What did he mean by 'he will be punished?

All these questions swirled around my mind.

I decided to ask Elly later.

For now, I needed some rest.

I closed the door behind me and lay down on my bed.

I felt tired.

Too exhausted to do anything else.

I fell asleep quickly.
