Chapter 27: Chap 26 – Survival Test Part 2

We continued to divide tasks as soon as it was light.

We decided that Elly would hunt, I would fetch water and Susan would protect our camp.

The spell I used to fetch water was called “Water Sensation” and it helped me to feel nearby water sources.

This magic is based on the element of water, which was my mother's secondary element.

I managed to find a water source not far away after a few minutes of using magic.

With the help of Water Sense, I knew there was an underground river flowing under the ground.

I followed the direction of its flow and reached the surface.

Since the entrance wasn't very big, I had no problem reaching it.

Once I got out of the cave, I saw a small pond surrounded by rocks.

The next step is to check if the water is fit for consumption.

I cast a "Water Test" on myself and confirmed that the water was clean.

So, all I needed to do now is fill up my bottles.

As I collected the water, I heard a roar.

It's probably some monster that lives nearby that came to drink water.

I turned around to see what was happening when suddenly, I noticed a giant black wolf staring at me from behind.

"W-Whoa!" The sight startled me.

The beast was much bigger than me.

Its body was covered with brown fur. Its head was slightly smaller compared to the rest of its body. He seemed friendly though.

He approached me slowly. When he was close enough, I could smell the sweet scent coming off him. His breath smelled fresh.

I guess this guy just wants to say hi.

I greeted the animal in return.

Then I started to pet its head.

His soft fur felt nice against my hands.

The wolf responded by licking me.

Too bad I'm not a tamer.

Moments like this make me want to be an animal tamer.

I already have Aphy, but this wolf is badass.

Maybe someday I'll tame another one.

Aphy won't mind if I take care of more animals, will he?

But for now, I should return to camp, preferably without the wolf.

As I was saying goodbye to the wolf, another animal appeared.

However, this one didn't seem friendly at all.

Instead, it looked angry! It was a huge bear with sharp claws.

It growled at the wolf before turning towards me.

Oh crap. This isn't good.

I can tell how aggressive it is just by looking at it.

There were two options here: either run or fight.

If I ran, then maybe it wouldn't follow me. But that also meant leaving the water behind.

I can freeze it, but freezing something that big might cause problems later. And I don't know how long I need to keep it frozen.

It seems like the best option is to fight it because I need water.

I took out my sword and prepared for battle.

When the bear charged at me, I quickly dodged the attack and blocked its claw with a shield of ice.

The cave is too narrow, I can't move freely.

I also can't use area spells, as I can hurt the wolf unintentionally.

That means only melee attacks are available to me right now...

The bear tried attacking again, but this time, I was ready for it.

I held my shield horizontally while blocking its attack with a horizontal swing of the blade.

After successfully dodging both the first and second strikes, the bear attacked once more.

I blocked the blow with an ice shield and countered with a thrust of my sword.

My aim hit the bear's neck.

I stabbed it twice more until I realized that my weapon is almost gone.

Damn, I should've brought more weapons along.

Wait, I still have the knife Amanda gave me.

The knife is big enough to use as a sword.

Thanks, Amanda. You saved my ass.

Now let's finish this thing!

I threw the knife at the bear and cut into its belly.

Blood spurted everywhere. The bear roared in pain and stumbled backward.

Before the wounded beast could recover, I struck it down with a single stab.

The bear fell onto the ground dead.

What a relief.

I cleaned the blood off my knife.

I cut the bear meat and put it in the bag.

I decided to leave some pieces for the wolf. After all, they're friends now.

While cleaning the mess, I heard footsteps approaching us.

It sounded like someone walking over large stones.

I turned around to see who was coming.

And I found myself face-to-face with a man carrying three swords.

"Hello, Albert," he said as he pointed his sword at me.
