We heard the sound again soon afterward. This time, it was accompanied by a flash of light.
My heart jumped when I saw a massive shadow appear behind us.

I quickly cast a shield spell to protect both me and Aphy.

Why do I keep getting these things?

What happened next shocked me.

A small figure emerged from the darkness. He was a man who wore a white robe.

He was holding something that glowed with a bright blue color, which he placed on the ground. When he pulled his hand back, the object shot straight into the sky.

The thing flew high into the air until it disappeared beyond the horizon.

The dark sky then got lighter, and I could see the sun shining through the trees. The light blinded me, and I had to close my eyes.

When I opened them again, the world looked very different, and I could see everything.

There were dead students all around her. Their bodies lay scattered across the grounds. Some of them had their necks broken, while others had holes in their chests. Most of them seemed to have died from blunt-force trauma.

But the most surprising part was that none of these people were wearing armor or carrying weapons. Not a single person among them appeared to have been injured during the battle. In other words...

These kids weren't fighting. at least not in the traditional sense of the word. These children were dying from the sheer force.

Or, to put it another way, there wasn't a battle at all; it was just a massacre.

I felt sick to my stomach as I took in the scene.

I tried desperately to calm down, but the images kept flashing in front of my eyes. As if that weren't bad enough, I started seeing the faces of some of my classmates.

"Sir?" asked Aphy nervously as he noticed me trembling uncontrollably. "Are you alright?"

"Soon, the first seal will be broken," the man said calmly as if the horrible scene didn't bother him. "Then this place shall become hell itself."

His voice sent shivers down my spine.

How did you know? "How are you involved with all of this?!" I yelled angrily.

"You're there? I didn't even see you, Albert," he said as if my presence didn't matter to him. "The useless bishops made you think you were important, and now I see that I need to fix that."

"Fix what?!" I demanded.

He smiled and walked over toward me. His footsteps echoed throughout the empty school building as he approached.

"Don't worry about it," he reassured me with a cold laugh. "In a short time, I'll show you how you're just a kid next to me: the sin of greed."

He stopped right beside me and stared at me intently.

This guy's scary. Why does he act as if nothing bothers him? Is it possible that he doesn't care about any of this...?

As I stood there, frozen in place, he reached out and grabbed hold of my shoulder.

"Do not ever, ever, ever forget that you are merely a cockroach and nothing more!"

With a loud bang, he slammed his fist against the side of my head.

I managed to dodge it for a bit. However, once I lost sight of where he was standing, I couldn't react fast enough. My body hit the floor hard, sending a sharp pain shooting through my skull. It hurt so badly that I almost passed out.

"Aphy, without you, I can't win."

The moment Aphy recognized my voice, her cat form morphed into that of a black tiger.

The spell that greed had cast made his black fur stand out in the light.

I was ready to use my ice spell as soon as it was needed.

"Albert, don't underestimate him! He has great power!" warned Aphy.

He began casting her magic before I could give an order. His long tail twitched as she focused her energy. Then, using the claws on its feet, the beast leaped forward and attacked.

He swung his paw at the man, but he easily avoided the attack. Instead, he used the momentum to kick him away like a soccer ball.

"You are very naive, Albert; you have only defeated a few minor bishops, and you think you're ready to take on the world."

He seems to be placing too much emphasis on this. What is this guy trying to prove?

He laughed loudly as he pointed to himself.

After a brief chuckle, he continued his assault.

I took to casting ice and water spells as a combination of defenses. If I let myself get overwhelmed by his attacks, it would end up being pointless.

At one point, he landed a blow directly on my left arm and broke it completely off.

It hurts!

"Better stop," a voice said from the woods. "Stop insulting my bishops; Albert is quite powerful; he's just inexperienced."

"What are you doing here, Lust?" asked Greed.

"The first seal has been broken, so let's go..."

"I need to kill him."

"Come on, there's a real threat here. She's already killed one of us, the Pride."

"That won't do. We must make sure we eliminate the enemy first."

Lust was silent for a second before saying, "Fine. But don't blame me when something happens to you." With those last words, he vanished.

"I'll be quick," As soon as I said it, there was a bright light. "This is the last spell I'll use."

My entire body froze solid.

"Don't touch Albert," those were the last words I heard before I passed out.
