I called on Aphy to help me deal with the huge number of enemies.

Aphy responded immediately and teleported to me. I stood in front of a large group of monsters, including giants and ogres.

"Go forth, Aphy!" I shouted.

All of the monsters stopped moving and started to look at me. Some of them raised their hands, preparing to attack.

At first glance, they didn't seem very strong, but I realized that most of the monsters here weren't wearing armor or carrying weapons. Most likely, they hadn't come expecting combat, so this made them more accessible to kill than the ones who fought back.

I planned to draw the attention of every monster and force them to focus on me instead of each other. That would give me enough time to defeat them.

Since I had already taken care of the smaller beasts earlier, I was confident I could handle them.

So, I summoned several hundred giant bats.

I instructed them to fly over the heads of the monsters and begin attacking. The enemy's reaction was immediate. All of them pointed at me while shouting angrily.

The giants and ogres were confused. They didn't know why we were attacking them.

Their anger grew stronger as I commanded the bat army to dive-bomb them from above.

They had no idea what was going on, but they knew they were being attacked. They also knew that the attacks were coming from above.

It is easy to make short-term deals with this kind of creature. They are straightforward creatures—they don't understand anything more complicated than what you say. If it sounds like something reasonable, then they'll do whatever you ask. It doesn't matter if there isn't any logic behind your request; all they want to know is whether they can win. And since these monsters were only interested in winning battles against humans, I knew exactly how to play them.

"Attack!" I shouted.

The monsters began running toward us, trying to get away from my flying army. This gave me plenty of room for maneuvering. Once everyone saw that escape wasn't an option, they turned around and charged right into my troops.

"Charge!"

This tactic worked even better than I'd hoped.

"Ice!"

I used my ice magic to create a barrier around the entire clearing. It was a good defensive spell that wouldn't let anyone through.

"Ice Storm!"

I used the same spell to create another wall of ice.

The ice walls collided, trapping the monsters inside.

I used a spell that created a large amount of ice in an instant to build the walls. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I could have used the spell to cover the entire clearing, but that would have taken a long time. I needed to conserve my energy.

I need to use area ice magic to deal with the larger monsters.

Since Susan is no longer present, I can cast spells without fear of hurting her. But I still have to be careful.

If I used too much power, it might hurt someone else nearby. So far, everything has been going smoothly, though.

With some quick thinking, I created a wall of ice using water magic and trapped all the monsters inside. Then I moved forward, destroying them one by one.

I finished off the last one and turned to look at the rest of the monsters.

They were all staring at me, mouths wide open in surprise.

To prevent myself from getting overwhelmed, I split up my forces between two different locations. There were just too many opponents for me to fight alone. Fortunately, Aphy helped out immensely. She killed about half of them before she ran dry.

She must have enjoyed killing those monsters. Her eyes shone brightly as she tore through them.

When we finished dealing with the remaining monsters, our numbers were greatly reduced. We managed to finish off the rest of them after taking a few casualties ourselves.

"That was mentally exhausting," I told Aphy.

She just looked at me with those sweet cat eyes of hers and replied, "Yes."

A rumbling that came from further into the woods ended our celebration.

I can't get a break, dammit!
