Chapter 20: Past Hero Is A Weak Future Hero?

Unseen by the naked eye. We struck at night.

Strands of dark blue hair frequently assaulted my face. Dammit, Yuuko! WHY?! Battling the onslaught of her long ass hair before Ai faced us.

“We’re almost there!” she said excitedly while her red eyes remind me of one of those old vampire tales.

“Yes!” Yuuko cheered.

“Can’t wait!” Rei exclaimed, with her arms rolling in the air.

“Wo-hoo!” I raise my left finger and then twirled mimicking Rei. Jeez, what I’m I doing? Following some bimbos.

“This town is full of criminals, excluding us. We’re innocent!” They chanted cheerfully whilst sprinting toward the light at the end of the hall. “EMBRACE CLICHE!” they added.

“CHANT WITH US OTONASHI!” They pouted as all of their eyes shapeshift into a mist of red just waiting to devour me.

AM I IN A CULT?! THE LOOK IN THEIR EYES?! PURE BRAINWASH!

Abruptly, a swoosh sound washed through my ears and then Ai’s head detached from her body as blood attacked the nearby barrels.

Himiko and the others suffocated in pure terror.

“Hello, cuties! The names Anna, by the way!” Anna held a peace sign shortly before wrapping her arms around Ai’s headless body.

“T-T-THAT’S ANNA! THE 100TH KNIGHT UNDER THE QUEEN’S CONTROL!”

“Oh?” Anna released Ai’s lifeless body as it slowly hit the ground, twitching all over the place. “Do we know each other?” She covers one of her black daggers over her blood-soaked mouth.

Yuuko turns over to me. “RUN OTONASHI!”

I’m quivering? Is it because Anna bypassed my danger sense or sliced Ai in a matter of seconds? My hands feel numb. This perso---

I’m gazing at Anna’s appearance with strands of her leafy hair that stand deceit to others as if a venus fly trap. Her sharp, dark green star eyes suck the living soul out of the grass.

Anna’s height is well... Average and so is her chest with a dark violet tailcoat that shields her spine and splits in two around her bottom. Ending just below the knee. Her black sports top concludes a little above the belly button, which is marked with a purple skull. The lower half dark yoga pants reach from top to bottom until the dark leather boots finalise Anna.

Gosh, Isn’t it snowing? How is she warm in that?! I gaze below toward my tight white full body suit. Cold resis---

Guh! That doesn’t concern me right now, Ai IS DEAD! AND IN A SPLIT SECOND?! I gaze at Ai’s twitching body shortly before Anna collected Ai’s head.

“Anyone wanna play basketball?” Anna laughed as she gazed at the night sky.

She’s currently wielding two black daggers, but her sheath at the back is bearing something far more terrifying than those standard daggers.

Himiko raised her left palm, facing me as an odd dark ball blasted toward me.

“...”

Electric zaps around me... Where am---

NO?! My Wings Of The Shield’s Desire activated?! DAMMIT HIMIKO! I face a skull. I-It’s the entrance?!

Without any hesitation, I return to the dark alleyway to locate my clothing and long sword. I immediately equip my black tailcoat and release my long sword from the scabbard. “Become a light during our darkest hours. No matter how much darkness consumes the world, a light will always pierce through. POWER OF THE HERO!” After chiming, I feel a green aura surround me and temporarily consume the colour of my hair.

Less than a minute later...

“Oh, there you a--- “Anna gasped, “That power? A descendant of the hero?-- No, my queen said to arrest anyone with odd power.” She muttered to herself. “But Isn’t that power extremely weak?”

Anna chewed on a finger, cracking with every crunch, and I glared at her then I blink as Anna vanished. I feel a tap from behind.

“Yahooo! Behind you dear.”

I feel Anna’s fingers softly invade my brown strands of hair.

“Hmm, so bizarre, yet so weak.”

“W-weak?”

Isn’t my power powerful? I knew my magic would be weaker but not this pathetic, How did I save Yui from those bullies back then? Guh-- I wasn’t some overpowered person, but in the past, I was one of the strongest.

“Wait.” She continued to pat my forehead.

“GONE AGAIN?”

“Let me ask you a question. Are you a descendant of that stupid legend?”

“No, I’m not a stupid descendant, I AM ONE OF---“

“—WELL, A FORMER HERO OF TIME!” I raise my volume.

Anna just laughed as I grasp my handle tightly and propelled a swing towards Anna’s stomach. In a split second, a clattering sound filled my ears as  her daggers defended her and then Anna teleported on top of my sword and sat on it.

“You know? A hero in the past--” Anna smirked. “SHOULD NOT JOIN THE PRESENT!”

“You know why you’re a legend, right?” She pounded my forehead. “Stupid-- Didn’t anyone inform you that a past hero is a weak future hero?”

“Cause magic gains strength as time flows on.”

“B-b-b-b- Bingo!” Anna held a peace sign.

I-I couldn’t comprehend how weak I actually am. Me? A former Great Hero Of Time? One who helped this world spread new wings? No! Surely Anna is flooding my head with untruths! “HEX: TWIRLING EARTH!” MY feet both glow barely blood-like as I lunge my right leg first and trampled the ground in front of Anna. A tornado designed out of fire and ice gradually swallow her.

“Oh! Wow! You can use multiple types of magic. I see fireballs and needle-like icicles flying toward me.” Anna said in an unalarmed manner.

I-Impossible, I held my left palm out. “Hex: Fir---“

“Now that face, what a desperate man.” Anna breaks free from my spell and without a second thought attaches her left palm over my face.

“There’s a hanging out screw from the dumpster., you know.” Anna cracked a grin whilst thrusting my forehead gradually toward the screw. I feel every inch of skin peel back as the screw invades my forehead. The dam overflowed with blood.

“ARGH!” I groan as an outside spaceship bombards my forehead.

“AH!” T-THIS PAIN?! IT-I-IT’S UNBEARABLE!”

A kick from Anna sends me flying up toward the same length as a roof before descending and being thrusted by her leather boot. I toss and tumble and smash against the wall. Blood scattered around and dribbles down my forehead.

“You attacked first, you know.” Anna shakes her head. “I doubt you’ll come peacefully, anyway.”

Lying bitch, she slaughtered Ai, Rei, Himiko and Yuuko--- Wait, why should I care about some random bimbos I found in a dark alleyway a few hours earlier?

Anna giggled. “Do you want me to tell you how the pathetic girls died?” placing her daggers in her purple tailcoat. “FINGER BY FINGER! AS THEY SCREAMED! THEY BEGGED FOR MERCY! LIMB BY LIMB! UNTIL NOTHING BUT A HEAD AND A TORSO!” Anna cackled while licking the snowflakes.

Bastard… It took her less than a minute to arrive to me... But if Anna’s statement is true, then I can prevent their deaths. If I focus on the r-remaining strength for agility, close their wounds now and restore their limbs later--- If Ai wasn’t beheaded, I could’ve saved her as well but I don't feel any sorrow. I focus all of my magic on my legs. I burst into action and leapt as fast as a projectile thruster, through the dark twist and turns, until I hear the roars for help.

I follow the racket... fractured blue fingers and an ocean of blood. It’s just like what Anna said. Rei and Yuuko stopped screaming with their stars, leaving their bodies. I hover my hand over Himiko. “Hex: Twinkle’s Embrace” A leaf light wraps around Himiko.

Himiko’s stars are fluttering. “P-pro-mise me y-y-yo-you’ll k-ill h-her.”

My arms are around Himiko. “I promise.” I’m sorry Ai, Himiko, Rei and Yuuko, but without this experience, I’d never have known I was powerless. Revenge plagues my mind to feel any sorrow for them. With Himiko passing the torch over to me. I’ll take it up on myself to kill Anna for them. I guess this is my warning about how weak I actually am. Imagine if I charged Diana with no power, cause even that hero power is obsolete now.

“Blinded by a selfish desire” A woman’s voice spoke to me.

WHO IS THAT IN MY HEAD?! I catch a glimpse of an angel with dark feathers scattering everywhere. I can’t see her face or body, just the wings.

This angel wraps her arms around me from behind. “Let willpower BE YOUR STRENGTH!”

“COME FORTH!! WINGS OF REBELLION!”

“WINGS OF REBELLION!” I mimic the voice and took a step back from Himiko’s corpse as I lifted my sword in the air. Feeling a little stupid taking power from a random voice in my head, but it’s that or die, anyway. I still don’t think Anna has used any spells yet, either.

“Otonashi, the power I offer you is nothing but a broken wing at this moment. Defying Anna is not advised.” The dark-feathered angel warned.

Feeling my heart burn with energy, my body feels different. I see a slight red aura around me.

“Yes, your hair is drifting half-red and half-green.”

I tighten my grasp on my sword’s handle. This won't be an easy fight...
