"Level nine? Just one more then. Luckily this isn't a magical world, right?" Rory stopped to ask the system because he wasn't sure if this was the same world he died in.

[There are naturally beings that exceed the masses. Until you evolve, you won't have to worry about safety because you're too insignificant for other creatures to bother with you.]

[You are still within the same world.]

Rory let out a sigh of relief. Being tossed into a whole new world while sounding amazing, was nothing short of a nightmare to him because he would be no better than a newborn then.

"How long has it been since I started 'grinding'? I don't suppose you have a time keeping function?" Rory couldn't see the sun, not that he could tell time by that, because he was born in an era where technology was dominant.

Resuming his 'massacre', Rory occupied his mind with different thoughts. Even if he was Merciful like his title said to certain animals, he could be the equivalent to the devil if he wanted to.

If he hadn't been brutally run over by whoever drove that blasted car, he wouldn't have been through what had happened. To feel the pain of his bones shattering and splintering followed by his death.

[ Evolutionary Path List ]

Enhanced Lingering Spirit - An upgrade to the current evolution. Excels in Strength and Endurance Attributes. Evolution Potential : Moderate

Lesser Detached Spirit - A Spirit without attachments to anything. Excels in Spirit and Mental Attributes. Evolution Potential : High

[Note that Locked or Hidden Attributes will be unlocked with their relevant evolution. There are also other ways to unlock them even without the evolution.]

"Lesser Detached Spirit seems to be the best option. I'll be unlocking both the Spirit and Mental Attributes, and the potential is better than Enhanced Lingering Spirit."

"If I want a tank build, then I'd choose Enhanced Lingering Spirit, but Spirit and Mental might be the best because I can't use any strength aside from using Telekinesis."

[Lesser Detached Spirit selected. Beginning Evolution.]

The dark surroundings turned brighter as Rory's form glowed slightly, his body and limbs turning a bit more sleek and refined, not that one could tell much of a difference though.

[New skill acquired.]

His system also upgraded his status screen as well, updating it to match his current evolution. Without his willing it to, his status screen appeared before him.

"Is there a place where I can just grind EXP without having to worry about anything? Like a dungeon or something?" Rory thought about leveling up while grinding the ants and realized he would probably have to kill bigger sentient creatures someday.

Unlike a game, he could be hunted down by humans should he use them to gain experience. He naturally wasn't excited to take the lives of humans, but he would regret it less than killing a snail or caterpillar.

"Now that I think about it, my thought process is pretty messed up. Animals also kill, but I somehow feel that they have more leeway than humans because they do it to survive while most humans do it for convenience."

Rory crushed a passing ant, and without much suspense, the System didn't give him a notification that he gained EXP. He figured that when he evolved, he'd have to find something else to kill.

He never would have thought he'd be killing as he did, even if they were insects and critters, but because of his death things turned out the way they did.

His minimap showed a slightly bigger dot, a green one. Rory didn't examine his skills after he evolved, but he was a lot faster, even faster than he was as a human.

Not taking long to arrive, Rory floated over to a small brown frog croaking loudly. He once again compared himself to the frog and judged that he should be a bit smaller than a human child.

Strangely enough, Rory felt no incongruity despite his changed body. Due to his Attributes, his strength and speed were beyond that of a human, but it felt natural to him as if he had always been that way.

"Frog." Rory stared at the frog, realizing his visual acuity was better than before. A quick inquiry to the system let him know it was a mixture of his increased Mind Attribute and his Inferior Dark Vision skill.

"The Mind Attribute is kind of like intelligence in games. It doesn't magically make you smarter, well, it kind of does, but not to an outrageous extent. It simply increases your processing speed and precision."

Rory also learned that there were skills that could also do so. Parallel Thought or maybe even Boosted Intelligence, but he didn't know the prerequisites for such a skill, so he pushed it to the back of his mind.

The frog didn't have much of a chance to cry out when an invisible hand slapped down. Though he was smaller than a human, his strength was greater, and even a young human could kill a frog.

It wasn't that messy, as the frog simply looked like something heavy crushed it. Bits of slimy skin and flesh mixed with dirt greeted his eyes when he looked and he was slightly glad he didn't have to touch it physically.

[ 2 EXP gained.]
