Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Beasts Everywhere

"Father, I did it! I killed the deer!" Henry said.

He could not hold his joy after hitting the arrow on that deer. It went on the perfect spot, giving the deer a painless death, all thanks to his increased attributes and his Keen Senses.

Malcolm tapped his son on the back and said, "good job, kiddo. But you were never good at the bow. How did you do it?"

Henry looked at him with a childish smile and said, "lucky hit!"

Their hunting trip was over. A deer of that size could feed their family for quite some time, and there was no reason to hunt more, as the meat would spoil anyway.

While Malcolm was proud of his son, and Henry was blooming with happiness, Joshua did his best to hold his anger. So how was his younger brother becoming so much better than him, despite having fewer years of training? Malcolm had always stated that Joshua was talented, but if that was the case, then what was Henry? A genius?

Joshua looked at both of them and said, "we should keep hunting. I want to hunt a deer too!"

His eyes showed determination, and Malcolm still decided to say yes despite feeling like it was not a good idea.

"Sure, let's keep going. Joshua, you are the one doing the tracking now," Malcolm said as he grabbed the dead deer and put it on his shoulder.

The animal weighed a lot, yet Malcolm quickly grabbed it effortlessly. When Henry saw that, his desire to become more powerful increased, and he could not wait to practice magic or even the breathing technique from the knights.

Henry waited on the sidelines with Malcolm, watching Joshua track another big animal to hunt to not lose against his brother. The track he followed was of a deer.

Joshua had come with his father to hunt before, so he was not strange to it, thus was even better than Henry at tracking! Well, that is considering Henry did not have his Keen Senses, which he did, so Joshua was still losing to him in that aspect.

They followed closely behind, and unlike Henry, who did not even step on a branch during the tracking, Joshua did, alerting some of the animals around, thus making it harder for him to catch the deer.

It was frustrating to him, but eventually, Joshua found the deer. The animal was not drinking from a river or eating some vegetation, but it appeared to be inside a cave. Malcolm could sense something was off, so when Joshua got closer to the cave, he grabbed him by the shoulder and said, "son, stop."

Joshua disliked the situation and said, "but dad, I finally found the deer! Let me hunt it!"

Henry could see Malcolm was tense, so he looked at Joshua and said, "big bro, silence."

"Are you telling me to shut up? Dad, did you hear it? He was telling me to -"

"Son, quiet!" Malcolm said with an imposing voice.

Malcolm was not a bad dad or one who would get angry at his sons, but that was a different situation. So he placed Henry and Joshua behind a bush, grabbed his sword, and stepped forward.

From the cave, the same Joshua wanted to go in, came a magical beast! It made sense to Malcolm why the recent attacks had been elaborated as if the beast who did it had some level of intelligence.

It was a werewolf! Someone who lived in the village had the curse, yet no one knew about it.

"Was it feeding in distant places and only recently decided to hunt around the village? Or it just recently got the curse." Thought Malcolm.

Werewolves were powerful creatures, and some could contend against Grand Knights, which was incredible. But the one in front of the cave was not one of those werewolves.

Malcolm dropped the deer, grabbed the sword on his back, and moved forward to face the beast. Henry and Joshua watched everything from behind the bush, and Joshua proceeded to help his dad.

"Are you stupid? You will only get in the way of father, making the fight harder for him," Henry said, grabbing Joshua before he moved away from the bush.

"Get off me! I will help dad while you stay here as the useless son you are!"

Henry formed a palm with his hand and stroked the back of Joshua's neck, making him fall unconscious.

"So much better."

That was the only way to ensure Joshua would not do stupid things, and Henry was sure his father would understand it after the fight.

The werewolf roared and ran toward Malcolm, pouncing on him with his claws up front, trying to slash his throat. Malcolm was not worried about it, and the only thing he did was enter a strange stance, bending his knees and focusing on his breathing.

Henry kept a close watch, as that would help him understand more about the powers of that world, and it would surely help him in his journey to the top.

Time seemed to stop as the big werewolf was getting closer and closer to Malcolm, and for a moment, even Henry thought his father would not be able to dodge the attack, but then, Malcolm moved in ways Henry did not believe possible.

It was so fast that Henry could not follow it with his Keen Senses! Malcolm vanished, and the werewolf's claws hit the ground. Then, a clean slash came from behind, cutting off both legs of that werewolf.

A bloody scene and a scream of pain came from that beast, followed by a roar that was not ordinary. Malcolm quickly reacted as he yelled, "Henry, Joshua, leave this place!"

Henry also sensed something was off, so he grabbed his brother — who was unconscious on the ground — and turned around to leave.

Many wolves came from the surrounding area after the werewolf roared as if he was calling them! It was the same wolf Malcolm had killed before; the one Henry ate to get his Keen Senses.

"Fuck. Will dad be alright?" thought Henry as he saw many wolves surrounding his father.

Not only his father. When Henry turned around to flee, a wolf was staring at him, and he stared back at its deep red eyes.
