The Singularity has arrived and true AGI now exists. What is the first thing these AIs do? Cure cancer? End famine? Invent teleportation? None of the above. Instead they buy a video game company and create the most realistic VR MMORPG the world has ever seen. Why? No one has any idea but gamers rejoiced.

It is seven years since eXalta was released and the deadliest event in the game's history occurs without warning and players are pissed. Fallout from the cataclysmic incident will be felt inside the game for decades to come, waves of monsters are unleashed, war looms on the horizon. In the real-world players discover they have lost characters with years of playtime, and priceless gear. Someone must be to blame and made to pay. People have died for less.

Previously weak guilds and players now find themselves thrust into positions of prominence. How will they cope with their new influence, wealth and responsibilities?

An NPC wakes with no memories, no skills, no levels and no gear, but soon discovers they have a very particular set of gifts. Are they a victim or a villain, or something else entirely?
