Just before she felt something heavy crushing her and heard several people screaming, Aurora gasped and returned one minute before the incident.
‘What to do?'
Aurora started speed thinking through her choices.
'Tell Estelle to put up a shield? But seeing the scene from the vision, Estelle will try to save others before prioritizing herself. If the Princess dies, it will become troublesome! Then…!!!'
Aurora ran to the middle of the stage. Estelle, the male student, and the instructor were worried about what she would do next. But when Estelle saw her expression, she frowned. ‘Something is wrong.’
Before anyone could react, Aurora took out a parchment sheet with the rune ‘light shield’ inscribed on it. While she didn’t need the rune, it could cause trouble if people noticed she only used her mana. In other words, someone might find out that she is a ‘Witch’.
Aurora activated the rune through her sigil, and a light shield enveloped her, Estelle, and the male student. She used her mana to expand and strengthen it.
A shield with an attribute was strong, but one reinforced by a Witch is ten times stronger.
“What’s going on?”
The audience started questioning the maid’s actions. Using such a strong shield without much preparation shocked them but using runes at a school play shocked them even more.
“What is she doing?”
“Is this part of the play?”
They were both confused and anxious.
Lucius stood up even before Aurora moved to the center. He felt a jolt run through her. And that expression she wore was the same when she had a vision. He reached for his sword only to find that it was not there.
"Where...?"
Right, weapons were not allowed inside the academy during the festival. Guests were all asked to leave such weapons in their carriage. Only Knights were permitted to carry swords, but only if they did not enter buildings.
Cassis and Geeve were only allowed to stand guard outside the theater. Even his shadow Knights, Cain, Lyle, and Fie, did not have a way to infiltrate the academy and were forced to stay behind.
Of course, as the Duke, Lucius can use his authority to break those rules. But doing so meant giving the aristocratic faction permission to do the same.
However, his sword wasn't his only weapon.
The air around Lucius turned cold. Even though his seat was on the second floor in a private box, the other VIP guests immediately felt the air go cold and started shivering.
Lucius planned on protecting Aurora first and foremost, but she shook his head at him when she noticed this.
The frost around him retreated, but he refused to withdraw his aura all the way.
He stood frozen and watched as the large chandelier started swaying.
“OH MY GOODNESS!!”
“BE CAREFUL!”
People from the audience yelled.
Just like in her vision, lightbulbs started falling on the stage and breaking, followed by flickering lights. A loud popping sound went off, and people started screaming.
“RUN!!!”
Some guests started rushing to leave while the rest stood in place.
“SOMEONE PROTECT THE PRINCESS!”
Tristian rushed towards Princess Estelle, but she held her hand up to stop him from approaching. Just by looking at the shield,
she could tell that nothing would be able to get through it.
Before Tristian took another step, the chandelier gave way and came falling, darkening the entire stage. When the loud crashing sound came to a stop, the audience fell silent and waited with bated breath.
All one could hear was an intense, high-pitched sound coming from the stage.

Lucius closed his eyes and focused. He sighed in relief when he felt his connection with Aurora was as strong as ever. Although, his heart was still beating so furiously.
He had never been so anxious before.
“Light.” A gentle voice whispered from the stage.
The entire theater shined with a soft light.
Every single person moved their eyes towards the stage, wondering if the three students were okay. The shield around them supported the weight of the chandelier. It looked like it was hovering in mid-air. Fortunately, not a single person was hurt.
Aurora glanced at the thinned-out audience and sighed in relief. No one noticed.
They saw her using a rune parchment, but that was wrong. She only took it out for show. Aurora's research on her summoning theory was successful. And thanks to it, she reached a deeper comprehension of rune magic which gave her a few ideas. She coincidentally found that as a Witch, she did not need to use rune parchments to activate spells as long as she was aware of the basic principle behind the runes.
Lucius looked towards Aurora.
When their eyes met, she smiled.
With the summoning array completed, she now has enough power to protect herself and those she cherishes. This was her greatest regret in the past. Not being able to do anything and just watch. Not being strong enough to be relied on. Letting others get hurt trying to protect her. William. Isla. Her parents.
And now? She will never let herself be in a situation where they risked their lives for her to live or where she falls again due to another betrayal.
“Nothing can ever hurt ME again.”
But…
Aurora’s smile froze in place.
Shiver.
‘This power I’m sensing…so menacing! This horrifying power…it’s familiar.’
Her eyes widened.
Her palms started sweating.
Her heart started racing.
She recalled the dream she had the day before.
No…it was a nightmare.
{ “Wake up and protect him. Protect the one tied to your fate before it’s too late again.” }
And then she had a second vision on the same day.
A large hand went through his chest, and right before her eyes, Lucius fell to the ground lifelessly. Unmoving.
NO!!!
An array appeared out of nowhere, right below her feet.
Princess Estelle tried to warn Aurora of this, thinking it was a trap. But she stopped when she saw the array glow a breathtaking shade of blue and red. The two colors revolved around Aurora, giving off a dense aura that made you want to fall to your knees.
That aura reminded her of what she felt the first time she met Lucius. Overwhelming...and powerful.
Two other outcomes came from learning more about the history and source of rune magic. First, is how she can draw the runes using her mana for complicated rune magic. Like earlier for the shield rune, she didn’t need to use a rune parchment and only used her sigil and mana to activate it.
And second, she didn’t need to chant.
“Kellas!”
Answering her call, a small shadow jumped out from the summoning array.
