Aurora tried to remember more from what she read in the book.
The weakness of Metalkin Mantis… ‘If I remember correctly, it’s fire. But it can’t be small, and my fire is useless for offensive uses. The second weakness is the catalyst core in its chest is visible, unlike other mutated beasts.'
If they destroyed that, it is easy to kill them…but…
“It’ll be such a waste of a resource.”
Aurora paused.
‘The third weakness is their soft head…if done right, Kellas can kill them before triggering their berserk ability.
Aurora let her familiar know through telepathy about her plan.
Telepathy was an ability she gained for naming her familiar despite their temporary agreement.
It didn’t take long for Kellas to lure the two beasts closer to each other and knock them down. He used the theater chair to keep them pinned. The black beast leaned backward and raised his two forelegs. Before the mantis could move, Kellas squished their heads under its feet.
“Uggghhh…”
Aurora heard Lillian wail in misery. Blood came down from the corner of her mouth. She glared at Aurora as she wiped the blood with the back of her hand.
‘A backlash from losing the mantis?’
Lillian stood still and moved the energy inside her towards Aurora. "I won't let you..." She mumbled incoherently. "I won't let you go back to him. I will not allow it!"
The energy from Corrupted Beasts can disrupt a person's mind and slowly devour them. But when mixed with a human's blood, the effects are stronger. It is a new ability that comes from implanting the core of a corrupted beast into a human.
It makes them relive their darkest moments and then lose control of their mana.
Aurora backed up as she tried to block the fog, but to no avail. It pierced her shield and slowly crawled to her, enveloping her. She inhaled sharply and held her breath.
For Aurora, the demon in her heart, in other words, her darkest moment, was not her death. But the time she spent in the void after dying…the part of her memories that she sealed off.
She faintly heard Kellas whine as he tried to get her attention, but before she responded...
Everything went dark.
Her thoughts.
Her body.
Her surroundings.
This…it's this place again...
What? Why? Why was she here again?
Just like back then, the concept of time held no meaning. It took away her sense of self. Will she forget everything again? Her past? Her parents? Lucius? Gaius? Tanya? Anya?
Will she lose everything again?
No!
No. No. No. Not again!
As she desperately fought against the feeling of falling sleeping, a sudden burning sensation ignited inside her.
Only one feeling clung to her. Malice. Unimaginable malice filled with bloodlust, tempting her to kill. To take.
Take?
Take what?
Life.
Blood.
Everything.
It filled her with a need for destruction.
Destroy everything.
The mana inside her spun out of control, burning her from inside out.
It hurt.
It hurt, but she couldn’t bring herself to stop.
It was then that several people around the Dukedom could sense the raging mana.
Due to the curse caused by Aurora’s mother, humans have a hard time sensing mana in its raw form. However, when it comes to such a large amount of mana losing control like this, those with a five-layered sigil can sense it even from miles away.
Professor Ingsen and several instructors at the festival sensed the dangerous mana.
“What is going on?” One female instructor yelled out.

“I-is this mana coming from a student?” Another asked, terrified.
A male instructor flung his hand. “Impossible! It’s obviously something sinister.”
Professor Ingsen and the headmaster stood in front of the window, staring towards the theater.
“Headmaster Jeren.”
The Headmaster sighed. “I know, calm down.”
“Exactly why is this happening? Why is that child -- ?”
“Can you tell who the other person is fighting?”
The Professor did not say a thing. His silence was enough confirmation.
“That was a stupid question. Of course, you know. After all…” The Headmaster glanced at him. “You are the last of your kind and a royal at that. A race that was once said to be the closest beings to the spirits.”
Elliot Ingsen. His real name...Elyot Van Engesen Irminsul of the Irminsul royal family. One of the pillars of the sacred world tree.
And…
Elliot’s appearance shifted. His skin turned darker and his ears pointy.
...An elf, more than a thousand years old...an ancient race that disappeared along with the spirits.
Elliot’s ears twitched. “I knew from the beginning that she was dangerous, but I left her alone due to your request. It is time you explain yourself, Jeren Fulda.”
“…I did not have a choice. I received a report earlier about a barrier around the theater. It lets people inside but not out. The Duke of Rizar’s Knights warned me not to let others go near that place.”
“Duke Lucius Rizar.” Elliot lowered his eyes.
The Headmaster observed Eliiot’s expression. Although there wasn’t a change, he could tell from the quiver in his eyes that he still felt somewhat guilty for not stopping what happened to the Duke in his childhood. But Jeren didn’t mention it.
“If the Duke said so, it can not be helped.”
Jeren sighed for the second time. “Then what about Lady Isla? Isn’t she the one you have been waiting for? Will you not tell her?”
“No. It’s too early. Right now, she still does not know anything.”
“…Is that so? I guess we can only observe for now.”
The two turned to look at the theater. While they could not see it with their eyes, they felt the strong mana coming from there.
Elliot turned around. “I will make sure the students and instructors evacuate from the academy.”
As he left the office, his appearance returned to his human form.
At that time, Lucius looked up when he felt a burning sensation run through him. He could feel Aurora’s strong hate for the world and her mana going out of control.
"Aurora..."

Aurora gasped in desperation as she tried to break out of the void.
Nothing worked.
Her flames enveloped her. Flames that usually did not harm Aurora, was devouring her little by little.
“Hahaha…I don’t even have to do anything!” Lillian cruelly smirked. “In due time, her own flames will kill her.”
But then Aurora saw a faint light coming from the distance. It reminded her of the same light that appeared when Lucius summoned her.
It was a warm, gentle light like the sun.
Outside of her body, another light started shimmering. It came from Aurora’s neck. A necklace that wasn’t there was suddenly visible.
The necklace was the very same one Aurora wore before her death.
A jade necklace with a spinning wheel.
And on the spinning wheel, there were two runes carved on the back and front.
Ateet, the rune for past.
Hagaz, the rune for the future.
When the spinning wheel stopped, it revealed the future rune. The jade necklace disappeared again, and Aurora opened her eyes as she took a deep breath.
“H-how…??” Lillian’s eyes widened.
The words that popped in her head when she lost her way...it was what her mother once told her when Aurora felt weak and hopeless due to her failed awakening that only gave her useless abilities...
"The past is not a shackle. And the future is not on a set path. It is what you make of it."
