Run.
That was the only path towards her survival. The voice inside keeps pleading her, telling her that she mustn’t stay here. That man is dangerous. He’ll lead her to a different, twisted path that she always avoided with all her might.
That’s why she decided to run.
But.
How can she do this when she doesn't know a single thing about her current situation?
Where she was. How she got here. Why she was here. Exactly who was that man. And most importantly...
Who...is she?
Her memories were scattered into tiny fragments. She remembered the first 15 years of her life, but she didn't remember anything after that. Each time she tried to piece them together to form an image, her head would start throbbing.
Her Mother and her were both Witches. Her parents were the leading royalty of their Empire. And she also held a special title. The only Crown Princess of the Epheria Empire.
And then...that tragedy occurred. Chased out of her home, she relied on that person. Someone she had considered as important to her as her family.
When she was on the verge of losing all hope, she saw him. But who knew she put her trust in the wrong person. She ended up killing him. And then she ran again, searching for a place she could call her own once again. Then...then...what happened after that?
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in an unfamiliar place.
Did she die? Reincarnation? No, this is still her body, just the younger version.
Rebirth? Impossible. Rebirth meant being reborn through a mother’s womb again.
Was it magic that made her younger? Although that was possible, she didn’t know the spell to that type of magic. Even if she did, she couldn’t use mana after her 2nd awakening. Who would cast that kind of spell on her anyways? For what reason?
She sighed.
No use in thinking about something she couldn't get an answer to for now. What she was clear about though, was that there was some sort of bond between her and that man with red hair.
The moment she saw him, she knew it. Even though he wasn't in the same room with her now, she can still feel it. That bond made her want to stay by his side. And it was that connected that scared her the most.
That's why she needed to escape.
And to escape this place, she needs to learn more about her situation. About him. To do this, she had to wear a mask with a fake smile to get close to him. Just the thought of it made her stomach churn.
The longer she stayed here, the more chances he’d have to act against her.
It couldn't be helped, it was a risk she had to take.
Aurora stood up and walked towards the door. When she opened it, Tanya and Anya stood there startled. Tanya’s hand hung in the air awkwardly.
Anya giggled. “Miss, did you hear us coming?”
Tanya raised her eyebrows. She wanted to scold her younger sister. How was it possible for someone with no fighting experience to hear their footsteps?
The twins weren’t ordinary maids. They were abandoned by their parents in the forest and hunted animals to survive. Later, they were found by slave traders who sold them to an assassin organization. After learning assassin skills for four years, they became the best of their kind at a tender age of nine.
That’s why there was no way for such a young innocent lady to be able to hear or sense them coming. Tanya believed it was only a coincidence.
When the young lady didn’t say anything, Anya was disappointed. She wanted to befriend her, but the Miss barely talked. Her older sister stepped forward. “Miss, would you like to take a bath first or have breakfast?”
She had asked this question earlier but respecting that the Miss wanted to be alone, the twins gave her time.
Aurora opened her mouth and struggled once again to talk. “B…ath.”
The twins led her to that bath area.
The bathtub was very large and luxurious. It was enough to fit in at least fifty people. Still, as a former Crown Princess, she was used to it. However…

Aurora blinked her eyes as she stared at the empty bath.
Eh? Where’s the water?? Did they still not fill it?
Tanya’s next action baffled her even further.
She kneeled next to the bath and put her hand over a strange symbol carved on the side. A round symbol appeared on the back of her hand and glowed a blue color. The empty bath slowly filled with hot water that poured out of the symbol.
Aurora’s mouth opened wide, as did her eyes.
Magic! Water magic! But how?!
Humans shouldn’t be able to use their mana core after her Mother cursed them. Meaning, they shouldn’t be able to use magic at all!
She glanced at Tanya.
Then was this maid a Witch? Why was a Witch living with a Duke? Was she hiding the fact that she’s a Witch?
Aurora shook her head.
No.
There’s no way that man wouldn’t be aware of a Witch living under his roof.
Tanya tapped her shoulder, startling Aurora. “Are you alright, Miss?” The maid asked worriedly.
Aurora raised her hand and pointed a finger at the fading symbol on Tanya’s hand. “What….is...this?”
Tanya looked at her rune and then back at Aurora with confusion written all over her face. “This is a rune, Miss. Don’t you have one as well?”
Anya laughed at her older sister. “How can the Miss not have a rune! After all, Rune Magic is common sense.”
Rune Magic?
Aurora didn’t answer the maid. She stared at the hot water bath with a vacant expression.
Tanya and Anya glanced at each other.
‘Could it…she was a Runeless?’ They both thought to themselves.
They were only told to take care of the Miss and didn't know anything about her background. As the two lived isolated from others growing up, they wouldn’t discriminate against her just because she didn't have a rune.
After all, to them, the Miss was a delicate and innocent beautiful woman. From the very beginning, they already set their hearts on taking care of her!
“Miss, do you mind gracing us with your name?” Tanya first asked.
Name? What to do? Should she give them her real name? Or a fake one?
Aurora thought about it. If she gave them her real name and they figure out who she is, she’d be in trouble. But when seeing the two of them, it reminded her of the maid who traded places with her so she could escape the palace. That's why Aurora wanted to at least give them her name.
She can also use this to her advantage. Depending on how they react she can get a clue about where she was. Because there was no way for anyone in the Empire who wasn't aware of the implication behind her name.
When the twin maids thought they made a mistake in asking for her name, they heard a soft voice call out.
“N…na…me…is…Aurora.”
Tanya and Anya smiled. “What a lovely name!” The twin maids both took Aurora’s hands in theirs. “Miss Aurora, starting today, please allow us to be of service to you.”
Staring at their three tangled hands, Aurora blushed while nodding her head. How warm…
It’s been so long since she felt this kind of warmth that made her want to wrap herself in it.
