Lucius was taken aback. It was the first time he heard her raise her voice. He preferred this over her fake smile and composure. “Then, why not confirm it?"
She tilted her head to the side. “...Excuse me?”
“In the end, only you know who you are.” He stood up and walked towards her who was sitting on the edge of the bed. “As you said, records aren’t trustworthy.” He looked down, his eyes meeting hers. “Maybe it was altered in some way. Even magic can be susceptible to alteration. Then the only thing you can do is confirm it for yourself."
He was curious...what will she do after confirming it? Although it was risky bringing her to the Holy Temple, it should be fine if it's not the one in the Imperial City. Its just...he wanted to know what she will do after confirming it. Will she try to escape again or...?
"So? What will you do?" Either way...be it her life or death, she was in the palm of his hands. No one else was allowed to touch her.
Aurora thought about his suggestion. She was scared. But what was the point in being scared now? She doesn't know what her fate will be with this man, but it wasn't something she could escape this time. "I understand. Then please allow me to find the truth."
“Alright. I’ll try my best to meet your requests. After all, because you sacrificed yourself last night, I didn’t hurt anyone and was able to return unscathed.”
S-s-sacrificed?! Although what he was saying wasn’t wrong…does he have to word it like that?
Aurora turned her head away from him in embarrassment. Feeling her awkwardness, he realized what he just said. “I apologize. I didn’t…mean it like that.”
“Ah?! No, no, no." She waved her hands back and forth as she rejected him. "Don't apologize. You didn’t say anything wrong!” Why did she feel it was even more frightening to receive an apology from him??
The Duke, Lucius Rizar, found himself bewildered at why she was suddenly scared of him.
Women are such mysterious creatures.

The next day Lucius contacted High Priest Abel Parteda using the communication rune. This rune allowed two people to talk with each other using a holograph. As long as one has the ‘code’ to the other communication rune, they can reach another. The code is a string of 12 numbers and a letter embedded in the rune.
Fortunately, the Priest was staying at the Temple in the city.
“Are you sane?” Abel scowled at the man on the other side of the rune. “You want to hide her from the Holy Temple, and yet you dare bring her to one?”
“Tomorrow is Prayer Day.” Lucius calmly replied. “Everyone will be too busy entertaining guests. And the women are required to keep their face hidden.”
Prayer Day was a very important day held once every six months to pray and worship Goddess Alafia. Almost everyone from the neighboring town will enter the City. The Holy Lady of the Temple will lead the prayer and read from the scriptures. The High Priest will then bless the guests.
“Besides giving her access to the recorded books, I also want to ask you for another favor.”
Priest Abel put a hand on his forehead and took a deep breath. “Do you think I’m so free to entertain you two?”

“You’re from the Imperial City. There’s already a High Priest in my temple, what do they need you for?” Lucius didn’t even hesitate to retort.
“His Temple? Arrogant bastard…” The Priest mumbled as he cursed Lucius. Even though Lucius heard Abel, he ignored it. “It’s because I’m the High Priest from the Sage Temple that they won’t leave me alone! I can’t stay out of it even if I wanted to!”
Lucius narrowed his eyes. “Either you agree, or I can tell the Cardinal where to find you.”
Priest Abel froze and started to sweat. “Ahahaha, I was just joking. No need to take it so seriously, hahaha! You’re free to come anytime with your guest!! The Holy Temple of Elran City welcomes you with open arms! Come, come and receive my blessing! Hahaha!”
"Forget it.” Lucius' mouth twitched at the Priest’s disgusting words. “Just assign someone else you trust to escort us.”
“Fine, fine.” Priest Abel sighed and waved his hand in annoyance. “What was the other favor you wanted?”
“That’s…”
After Lucius finished speaking with the Priest, he disconnected the rune and tapped his finger on the table in deep thought.
He thought back to the unease he found in Aurora’s eyes. He didn't care about her at all at first. To him, she was just a woman to be used. But after that night, he wanted more. And it was unsettling him. Lucius could only push the blame towards their connection as summoner and familiar.
The next day, Lucius and Aurora began their preparations to head out.
Duke Rizar informed Halon to ready a simple carriage that didn’t stand out. The Rizar household had the main carriages with the Rizar crest and also a few plain carriages they used when wanting to keep a low profile.
Tanya and Anya helped Aurora get ready. She wore a simple white and green dress with long sleeves, with no ornaments or other jewelry. To keep her warm, the twins had her wear a white fur coat and reminded her to at least keep it on while in the carriage. After Tanya helped her with the dress, Anya prepared her hair. She brushed Aurora’s hair and loosely tied it back, letting a few strands fall forward.
The two prepared a green veil to cover Aurora’s face and told her to wear it before getting off the carriage.
When Aurora came to the front entrance and saw Lucius waiting for her, she found it difficult for her to look away. It was her first time seeing him in casual wear, with a plain long-sleeved white shirt, black pants, and a coat. It made him stand out more than his usual clothes. Including his light fake mustache below his nose and on his chin, it gave him a rogue appearance.
“What is it?” He asked her when he found her staring.
She turned her head away. “No, it’s nothing.”
While he held her hand as she stepped inside the carriage, Lucius saw that the tip of her ears was red. He found her reaction amusing, especially since she claimed to be older than him.
The front gate was twenty minutes away from the mansion itself. By foot, it took twice as much time. Because the carriage was small, space inside was limited, making them have to sit together with shoulders touching. This didn’t bother the Duke at all, but for Aurora, it kept her on her toes.
Aurora folded her hands on top of her lap and tried her best not to meet his eyes as she stared out at the passing scenery.
