As Aurora stood there and continued to listen to the story, Lucius didn’t rush her and waited. Until a voice came from next to them behind.

“Are you interested?” Mikhail asked Aurora. “Our Holy Lady is reading the scriptures about the two supreme Gods.”

Lucius and Aurora turned around to face High Priest Mikhail.

“Holy Lady?”

Mikhail smiled. It seemed like she didn’t know anything about the Holy Temples, but he didn’t scold her for her ignorance. If it was the High Priest from the 3rd and 4th Temple, they would have surely looked at her with ridicule.

“While there is currently only one Saint, each Temple has a Holy Lady. The Holy Lady is someone chosen from the noble ladies. They go through the Temple’s trials and the remaining lady is given the Holy Lady title for five years. The next trial will be held soon. Why don’t you give it a try?”

The Priest only said that to test her. Since he said only noble ladies were chosen, if she agreed then she was the daughter of a Noble. But if she refused right away, then she was only a commoner.

Although this High Priest appeared to be gentle and understanding at times, he was actually very cunning. Aurora had long seen through him. She usually hated people who had ulterior motives and were always testing people, but Mikhail didn’t hide this about him. He was actually very charming. Only someone persistent and assertive could stay by his side. Someone with a strong personality.

“I refuse.” Aurora declined.

She didn’t even take time to think about it. “May I ask why?”

“It’s troublesome. From the sounds of it, these Holy Ladies probably have many responsibilities. I doubt they’re given any benefits.”

Lucius covered his mouth with his hand as though he was trying to hold back his laughter, although there wasn’t a single change to his expression.

High Priest Mikhail found himself shocked speechless. “I-is that so? Ah…well…as we haven’t heard the Goddess’ voice over a thousand years, the Holy Temple has lost most of its authority. We, who was once a neutral power, now have to rely on the Imperial Family.”

“How can that…?” The Holy Temple of the past was the only neutral power on equal standings with the Imperial Family.

“It’s said the reason we’ve lost the Goddess blessing is because of the Black Witch’s curse. The magic she used was something that shouldn’t exist, thus deemed as forbidden. This caused the harmony to be broken and is the reason the erosion of the lands began. However, this is only speculation.”

What’s with that? The Black Witch’s curse again? Even a thousand years later, nothing has changed.

The High Priest took a scroll and a letter out from his sleeves. "Here's her affinity test results. Take it to the Magic Research Institute to let her get a rune. And this is a letter from High Priest Abel." He handed it over to Lucius.

When Lucius received the letter, there was a name written on top.

Rune Mage Dorsen

Lucius narrowed his eyes. Has Dorsen figured out what happened during the summoning ritual?

Priest Mikhail turned to Aurora. "Although it'll end soon, if you'd like, please come inside and join us."

Aurora turned her head back to the chapel. She found High Priest Abel standing next to the Holy Lady, wearing grand robes while holding a staff. He looked very different from his usual playful self.

Aurora shook her head. “Thank you for your offer, but we should be on our way.”

"Oh, that's too bad." Mikhail intended to pat her head again until he felt a murderous gaze on him. He froze. The Priest placed his hand over his chest and slightly bowed. "Then, I hope that we meet again. May you and the Duke receive Goddess Alafia's divine protection."

After bidding their farewell to him, the High Priest watched as the two left the Temple. When he recalled Lucius' expression, he chuckled. "Heh. And they say he doesn't have a single human emotion."

The tale of the two Supreme Gods...

Aurora already knew the tale very well. From what she heard while standing in the hallway, it hadn’t changed at all.

Including the Goddess of Harmony and Law, and the God of Chaos and War, there were also other Supreme Gods.

God of Light and Creation, Noam.

God of Darkness and Death, Deorum.

God of Space and Time, Ashur.

Goddess of Hope and Love, Umniya.

Goddess of Protection and Flames, Estrella.

While the seven Supreme Gods were held in high esteem, only the tales of Alafia and Vieyar were spread far and wide in the two Empires.

Alafia was a Goddess devoted to the ideals of permanence, order, and stability. She controlled and manipulated all the laws of cause and effect.

However, Vieyar believed that the strong have the right to devour the weak. He wasn’t necessarily evil, but had a carefree principle. He thought that there was no need for such things as rules and laws, as they were nothing but collars that restricted a person’s heart, making them reject change.

Because of their contrasting views on how to guide the humans in the new land, the two were soon in conflict with each other.

When their clashes started to affect the human world, the other five Supreme Gods stepped in and offered a solution. To split the land into two so they wouldn’t have to see each other again.

The Goddess of Harmony and Law, Alafia, gave her blessings to a human who then founded the Epheria Empire. While the God of Chaos and War, Vieyar, gave his blessing to a warrior, who then founded the Tamriel Empire. Thus, the two Empires, with contrasting morals, did not get along with each other.

Now that she thinks about it, darkness is congruent to chaos, while chaos is destruction itself. That time she spent in that void, slowly forgetting herself, doubting even her existence, changed her. In what ways, she still didn't know.

Right…what was it that the Goddess said to her lover as they separated from each other?

Aurora whispered those words as she left the Holy Temple without looking back.

“The things that shouldn’t exist will bring destruction, and thus, laws that govern this world can only bring peace.”

Then as someone who exists but shouldn’t, what will her existence bring to this world?

As Lucius and Aurora left the Holy Temple, a group of people watched them closely from the dark…waiting…
