Suddenly, the book made a click sound and opened.

Aurora was confused. “How did it open when you didn’t activate your rune yet?” She asked Lucius.

“My sigil is on my lower back.”

“Sigil?”

“It is what Nobles usually call runes inscribed on a person's body.” He answered her patiently.

Aurora nodded her head.

No wonder she never noticed his rune. That night too…he was on top of her…

Her fingernails dug into his back when he entered her, leaving behind red lines.

She unconsciously tightened her grip on his hand as she thought back to what happened.

“What’s wrong?” Lucius felt her hand tighten around his. He thought she was perhaps nervous to read the book and find out the truth.

But that wasn’t the reason at all!

While it's true he took this body's first, he wasn't necessarily the first person she's been with. She wasn't some innocent maiden!

So!

Why does her thoughts keep returning to that the night?!

Aurora avoided his eyes. “N-nothing. Let’s begin.”

The Duke didn’t think any more about her behavior and opened the book to the first page. With his right hand still on the book and his left in her hand, he pushed the book towards her.

"I'll leave it to you two then. If there's anything you need come find me in my office." The High Priest said as he took his leave.

Aurora barely heard him as she was already absorbed in reading the book. It took her a few hours to read the entire book.

Four hours later...

Aurora lowered her head as she thought about what she just read.

Lucius closed the book and locked it back into place.

The two sat there in silence.

The book recorded every single event that occurred between her parents with great detail. Even the names of the officials her mother killed which even she didn’t remember that well. That day she stormed in the palace, scolded her Father in front of everyone, and disappeared without anyone being able to touch her was recorded just as it happened. But there wasn’t a single mention about the Emperor and Black Witch having a child.

She wasn't mentioned even once.

Did someone from the temple deliberately erase her existence? But for what reason? The magic coming from the book was certainly suspicious, but as there was no way for her to confirm what type of spell it was, she could only keep it to herself for now...at least until she figured it all out.

While she was in a daze, Aurora didn’t notice that Lucius was still holding her hand. It was until twenty minutes that she came to and realize that her hand was still in his.

“Please forgive me for my discourtesy.” She didn’t expect for this to happen. She thought it was her fault and intended to pull her hand out, but he held on to her tightly.

“Um, Your Grace?” She asked, bewildered. Was this his way of her comforting her?

Instead of letting go, the Duke boldly started to rub the back of her hand.

Rub. Rub

He turned her way and kneaded her hand with both of his. As though he was inspecting something with great importance, he leaned forward to get a closer look.

Squish. Squish.

What on earth…? While his behavior was strange, she found herself mesmerized at his serious profile as he focused on her hand. He looked even more handsome when he was engrossed in something.

Lucius frowned.

Squish. Squish. Squish. Squish. Squish.

He turned her hand over and traced her palm with his fingertips, making her shudder.

“Y-your Grace?” What…what was he doing?!

“Lucius…” He stopped massaging her hand but didn’t let go.

“I’m sorry?”

“It’s only appropriate for you to call me by my name after we had se-”

Before he finished his sentence, she covered his mouth with her other hand. His eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t pull her hand off. If it was another woman who committed such an act, surely, they would have already lost their life.

Aurora’s face flushed red. She wouldn’t have cared if it was anywhere else, but please don’t…don’t… “Don’t say such a thing in the Holy Temple!”

For a Witch to enter the Holy Temple, she already broke one of their laws. Even if that law was no longer in place, she didn’t want to be charged with saying blasphemous words on sacred ground!

Because their Goddess was female, any conduct deemed as sexual or disrespectful towards women were not allowed on Holy Temple grounds. Doing so would be an act of transgression against their Goddess.

Usually, she wouldn't care about such things, but entering a place that long hated Witches, even when there was peace, she couldn't help but feel cautious. High Priest Abel and Mikhail didn't seem like Priests at all, making it easy for her to talk to them. However, who knows how the others are like?

Beneath her hand, she felt his lips that pressed against her hand curl into a smile. When she realized he was laughing at her, she blushed even further shades of embarrassment. Fortunately, her face was hidden under the veil.

With her hand still over his mouth, Lucius obediently nodded his head.

Aurora sighed in relief.

When she let go of him, he was disappointed.

There wasn’t anything special about her hand.

It’s just that…it was warm…and…

He wanted to keep holding it.

Lucius and Aurora left the library and reached the entrance to the grand hallway.

When she heard a sweet young girl's voice, Aurora stopped walking.

Past the open double doors where many people gathered, standing behind a white stone table was a young woman wearing a red robe with gold tassels and a white dress underneath. In the middle of the dress was a silver cross necklace that reached the bottom of her dress.

Though no one could see her face due to the veil, her every movement was filled with elegance.

“In the beginning, there were two Supreme Gods who, despite being complete opposites, were lovers. The Goddess of Harmony and Law, Alafia, and the God of Chaos and War, Vieyar. They lived peacefully in the God Realm, until one day they were tasked by the God of Light and Creation to govern over the newly created land in the human world.”
