Aurora’s and Isla’s ability to see through time were similar in some aspects, but also completely different in others.

Aurora can see at most thirty seconds into the future. While Isla can see up to one year of a person’s past.

Aurora can only receive visions about people that are related to her. While Isla can see the past of anyone who meets her eyes.

Both of their abilities were related to time. And they both had two types of ‘visions’.

The first type was where they activated their ability on their own. Of course, there was a cooldown between each time they can activate it. For Aurora, it was only fifteen minutes, but for Isla, it was three hours. The cooldown was there because it could strain their eyes and cause damage to their sight if not careful.

The second type is known as forced visions. Both Aurora and Isla only received these types of visions during emergencies. When their ability tried to warn them of an upcoming disaster.

For Isla, the vision showed her the past of a person or object related to a disaster she was about to face. It was strange because her ability was related to the ‘past’ and not the ‘future.’

That’s why, when Isla received a forced vision about Aurora’s past, she had long realized that it was warning her to stay clear from her.

Isla wanted to run away.

She didn’t want anything to do with Aurora.

After all, she wasn’t an idiot to go poking her nose into something that had nothing to do with her.

But when Isla recalled the vision she had of Aurora, she…just couldn’t leave her alone. Aurora reminded her too much of her past self. When she was young and naive.

“Huh? An escort mission?” Aurora asked, startled. “Why an escort mission all of a sudden?”

Isla sat on the edge of the bed and stared at Aurora who was laying down on her stomach as she munched on some snacks. "I thought it would be nice to have a change of scenery.”

That was a lie.

Isla realized that over the past few days there was a steady increase of guards patrolling the town. Aurora, who was only 18 years old, had already been through too much. That’s why Isla wanted to give her a chance to live without worries for at least a little while longer.

“The city we’ll be going to is a mercenary city that’s controlled by the mercenary union called Laguna. It's said the Nobles there don't have any authority in the City. That's why it's the perfect place for you to settle down for a while too.”

“What? There’s actually a city like that? How?!” Aurora stopped eating and asked Isla with disbelief. A City where Nobles have no influence? Such a thing was inconceivable. Why would the Nobles let this go without any complaints?

“The leader of the Mercenary Union is said to be a commoner.”

“…While that is rare, it’s not enough to warrant nobles being unable to not have any influence.”

“Get this!” Isla held up a finger. “There’s a rumor that the leader was in the same academy and class as the Lord of Laguna City, who is a Marquis! And that the Mercenary Union Leader’s Wife is someone the Marquis had a crush on!”

That still didn't make any sense...

"And! That those three were friends with a royal from the Imperial Family."

What? With who??

"Suprised, right?"

The mission this time would be taken as a group.

Because Isla gave Aurora a makeover a while back, no one realized that Aurora was the girl from the time that crawled out of the guild from before.

Because of that, the former Princess was forced to dye her hair green like Isla. She was introduced as Isla's long lost little sister, Darcia.

Two days later, Aurora and Isla met up with the group at the gate. Including Isla's group, there were two other mercenary groups with them as well. Apparently, the merchant was carrying something valuable and feard bandits attacking. Without magic to defend themselves, they decided to hire strong mercenaries.

Feeling nervous about being in a crowd, Aurora half hid behind Isla like a child.

“Why are you so nervous? No one will recognize you.” Isla laughed. Despite her age, Aurora was still like a child. Isla still couldn’t believe it was this same girl who killed the son of a Duke with such decisiveness.

“No…it’s just…I had a vision.”

Isla stiffened when she heard that.

“About?”

Aurora glanced at a man standing a few feet away. “Him. Staring at me…”

When Isla saw the man Aurora glanced at, she relaxed for a moment, thinking it was okay. “That blonde man is Bison. He’s the leader of my group.”

Isla fell silent.

Aurora just had a forced vision of Bison.

That means it was a warning.

Bison was a womanizer, but nothing more. She knew him for a long time and although he flirted with her plenty of times, he never crossed the line. So, why would he be staring at Aurora?

“Isla?” Aurora called out in concern when she stopped talking.

“No, it’s nothing for you to be worried about.” Isla patted Aurora’s head.

It took five days to get to Laguna City. Two days passed without incident.

Isla never let her guard down. She kept a close eye on Bison. She used her ability twice to get a look at his past, but she didn’t see anything suspicious.

Bison's reason for staring at Aurora was simply due to curiosity at Isla's little sister. While she didn't have any feelings for him besides respect, Bison couldn't hide the yearning he had for her.

“Something is wrong…” Isla whispered to herself.

Their leader didn’t have any suspicious memories that showed in his past, but Isla, who was cautious by nature, wanted to make sure it was the same with everyone in their group.

And there was one person whose memories from the past few days were missing.

It was strange.

Isla immediately became aware of the incoming danger. She didn’t know what it was, so she quickly made preparations and woke Aurora up while everyone else was sleeping.

“Don’t say anything,” Isla whispered.

Aurora didn’t know what was going on, but she trusted Isla, so she nodded her head.

Isla took out a pair of scissors and started to cut Aurora’s hair.

“Wh---”

Isla put a finger over her mouth. “Hush.” She continued cutting Aurora’s hair, as short as hers. When she finished, Isla tied a pack filled with food and water on Aurora’s belt and then covered her with a dark cloak.

A rustling noise came from the bushes around them.

Isla suddenly pulled Aurora into a hug and whispered in her ear. “Listen, the one who betrayed us is like us, a Witch. Don't think of them as your comrades. Don't trust them. And..."

Aurora’s eyes widened.

Not only because of the Knights that appeared from behind the trees and bushes but because of the last words Isla whispered to her before everything turned black.

Aurora vanished from Isla’s arms.

A Knight wearing a different armor from the others stepped forward. He pulled out his sword and pointed it at Isla, with the tip pressed against her throat, drawing a drop of blood.

“Abominable Witch! Where did you send her?!”

Isla smirked. “And now, why should I tell you?”

There are special Witches who gain two different unique abilities after their 2nd awakening. It was even rarer than those who had affinity with the light and darkness elements.

Isla’s second ability was teleportation. She can transport herself or anyone else she touched up to 100 miles away. But she can only use it once and day, and only transport one person at a time.

The Knight’s expression twisted into one of ugliness and angry. He pressed the sword deeper into her throat.

Pain assaulted Isla from inside out. She shuddered at the thought of her fast-approaching death.

Ahhhh….really, she knew that this would happen.

Still, she didn’t regret it.

Her only regret was not being by her daughter’s side as she grew up.

“Huff…huff…” A faint shallow sound was heard from a person running through the trees.

The reason Aurora’s vision gave her a warning about Bison was because he was the reason for the upcoming danger. The true perpetrator wasn’t Bison, but Isla’s friend who was also in the same mercenary group as them. Miele.

What’s funny is the reason Isla trusted Bison was because of his relationship with Miele, who was also a Witch. Her ability was scouting the area ahead and relaying the information back to the leader.

Unfortunately, while Isla and Aurora were talking outside while on a walk late at night, thinking that there was no one up at that time, Miele overheard their conversation. Due to her jealousy over Bison’s feelings for Isla, she reported them.

To make sure nothing went wrong with the ambush, a high ranked Knight gave Miele a special medicine that erased her memories of the past few days.

“Huff…huff…”

Aurora ran with all her might. When she came to, she found herself in the middle of a grass field. She doesn’t know if it was a coincidence or if Isla planned for it, but the field she was at was the one they had set camp on their first night.

No.

No.

This can’t be happening.

Not again.

‘The time I spent with you was the happiest I’ve been since my husband left me. I’ve come to love you as much as I do my daughter, so don’t blame yourself and live a long life.’

Why?

How could she say that?

Why didn’t she blame her?

It was Aurora’s mother who caused Isla’s husband to leave her with their daughter. If it wasn’t because of that incident, Isla would have been happily living with them as a family of three.

Even though Aurora ran with all her might, despite the training she did with Isla over the past few months, she wasn’t able to reach that place until the sun was already shining high in the sky.

She was careful as she approached the area, making sure the Knights from earlier were no longer there. When Aurora found that it was safe, she retraced her steps from last night.

Long before she even came upon the place where Isla used her ability, a sharp metallic smell reached her nose.

Blood.

Aurora fell to her knees in front of the unmoving body.

Isla was mercilessly stabbed through the throat with a sword.

Drip.

Drip. Drip.

Her tears silently dropped to the ground, but no matters how much she cried, it wasn’t enough to wash away the blood that pooled around Isla.

Why?

Why?!

Why?!!!

Why…was she so weak and useless?

Aurora kneeled there for two days without moving. She didn't drink or eat anything.

It wasn't until she forced herself to get up two days later and dragged her feet as she walked towards Laguna City. The Knights were probably aware of her destination towards the City, but they also knew that she knew and wouldn't be stupid enough to go to the very City she was first headed towards.

Although they hated Witches, Aurora was a former Princess. While she was spoiled by her parents, she was taught every single subject as expected of a royal member of the Imperial Family.

That's why she knew they wouldn't send a single soldier towards Laguana City and instead, they will think to ambush her in the City opposite of the one she planned on going to with Isla.

And that was exactly why she was going towards the one place they never expected her to go.

As time passed, the warning Isla gave her eventually faded from Aurora’s memories. To survive, she had to keep moving forward and running. She eventually let her guard down and was betrayed by a Witch that was her mother’s best friend, and someone she saw as an Aunt.

When she finally recalled what Isla told her that day, it was far too late.
