A few days after the incident where Aurora was kidnapped, and the Duke of Rizar was left gravely injured, things started returning to normal…
At least, that’s what the servants thought at first.
Back at the Rizar Mansion, Anya and Tanya, the twin maids, glanced at each other, both with worries etched on their faces.
Ever since returning, their Miss once again returned to shutting herself in her room after requesting all sorts of books. Just like that time when she was depressed and barely ate anything.
“That’s it! I can’t take this anymore!” Someone slammed the door to the room open and stomped inside, with steam coming out of their nose.
It wasn’t either of the twin maids.
Or even Halon.
It was Vale. The doctor’s grandson.
“I’ve been assigned as your doctor, and I have to say, this behavior of yours will eventually lead to your health failing!”
Aurora rubbed her eyes and yawned as she stretched. She was lying on the floor once again surrounded by books.
Vale stared back at her, with his hands on his hips. It was like watching the scene of a Mother berating their young daughter.
“Who…are you?” Aurora frowned at the rude intruder.
When hearing her question, Vale’s eyes widened. “I’m your doctor!! Vale!! It was His Grace who assigned me to look after your health!!”
“That’s where you’re wrong.” She tilted her head to the side, her expression blank and clear. “You’re the Duke’s Personal Doctor’s grandson who I was assigned to babysit.”
“Pfft…” Anya laughed and Tanya tried to reprimand her sister while also hiding her smirk.
“W-what…?” Vale was dumbfounded. It was the first time anyone talked to him in such a manner. Everyone in school respected him because of who his grandfather is. Even the Chairman who was aware that he had an affinity for Light, valued and treated him as the school’s treasure.
Aurora didn’t bother softening her words. “You haven’t even graduated and yet you have the courage to call yourself a Doctor? Even renowned Doctors like your Grandfather are humble when giving out their title because they’re aware of their limits and know that their patient’s lives are in their hands. And you?”
Vale’s cheeks and ears flushed red in embarrassment. “You think you’re someone special?!” Vale pointed at her. “You’re just some random girl His Grace is playing around with.” He said with a smirk. “It isn’t the first time women have fawned all over him, begging to become his mistress. We’ll see how long it’ll take for him to get tired of you.”
“You…!!” Anya wanted to step forward, but Tanya stopped her and looked at Aurora.
There wasn’t a single change to her expression.
Even though Miss was being insulted by a boy around her age, she was indifferent towards it. It was the first time Tanya saw a young lady her age take insults without care.
“Are you a Noble?” Aurora suddenly asked Vale.
Vale twitched at the question. “…I’m not. But what’s it to you?”
Aurora smiled brightly at the boy. That’s when Vale got a bad feeling.
Vale clenched his teeth. “My parents were Barons! I haven’t inherited their titles yet because I still haven’t had my Coming of Age ceremony!!”
“Oh? A Baron’s son, who has yet to inherit their title dares to frown against a Duke’s decision? Do you know that if you reveal such behavior in the Imperial Palace the other party can immediately execute you for showing such impudence against Nobility?”
“W-w-what are you talking…?” The little boy stepped back in fear. “I never said anything…!”
Before he continued, Aurora stood up and walked towards him. “The moment His Grace returned to the mansion you’re aware of the announcement he made, yes?” She continued walking towards him, as he continued to step back. “You should be since you were by his side. Now, repeat what Duke Lucius Rizar told every single servant and Knight after calling for a meeting.”
Vale lowered his head. The bangs of his hair covered his face, but Aurora could guess what kind of expression he had. “T-that you’re to become the future Duchess and to treat you as the Lady of Rizar.”

Aurora raised her eyebrows. “And?”
“A-and…anyone who goes against his decision or has a problem with this will have to bear the consequences.”
Her dark expression softened. “Although I’m currently not a Noble, my importance is higher than a Doctor’s apprentice. Keep that in mind the next time you talk to me."
“Tsk…” Clicking his tongue, Vale turned around and pointed at Aurora when he reached the door. “I’ll remember this!” He then ran away with his tail tucked behind him.
Anya, and even the eldest twin, Tanya couldn’t help but bursting out laughing. “HAHAHAHA!!”
Seeing this, Aurora also let out a smile.
Anya wiped the tears from her eyes. “Vale had always been freely entering and leaving the mansion because of his grandfather. Although I appreciate the Doctor, he doesn’t show any respect to the others living here besides Master. Even the Miss who wouldn't care for such things didn't stay quiet.”
“He must have angered the Miss.” Tanya voiced her opinion.
No. Aurora was just being petty.
That day, at the cave, after Lucius fell asleep, she let Sia and Vale return inside. Vale verbally attacked Aurora saying that it would have been her fault if something happened to the Duke and that she should know her place. When he finally realized that Aurora and Lucius had sex due to their appearances and Sia’s uncontrollable lack of restraint as he teased her, he tried to force her to take a pill to prevent her from becoming pregnant.
While she did appreciate that he helped save Lucius, Aurora didn't like that he poked at her about being pregnant. It was a subject she was greatly conflicted about in the past. Unintentional or not, she hated it.
Still, what was she thinking of arguing with a boy 14 years her junior?
“That boy…” Tanya started and then paused. “...Lost his parents too early like us...” She said with the corners of her mouth turned down.
Hearing her sister bring up the past, Anya also started to become sad as she recalled the past.
Aurora placed a hand on each of their head and ruffled their hair. “It’s their loss. You two are like my little sisters. I hope we can become family from now on.”
Tanya and Anya slightly widened their eyes and smiled. “Yes, Miss!”
“Didn’t I say to call me Aurora?”
The twins jumped into her arms and hugged her tightly. “Yes, Aurora!”
Tanya and Anya glanced at each, finding that they were both crying.
It was because what Aurora said was similar to what their Master said when he was just 14 years old and he took them in. After killing hundreds of assassins and destroying the group, he stood with the sun behind his back, turning his red hair into a brighter color. He was like the God of War soaked in blood.
“Abandoning you two, will be their greatest regret. Starting today, you are both my family. Your names are Tanya and Anya."
It wasn't until later they found out the meaning of their names. As the eldest, Tanya meant gracious and merciful. And the youngest, Anya, meant mother of all fairies.
From then on, they swore to protect their home and family as battle maids.
While the twins cried in her arms, Aurora lowered her eyes to hide her true intentions.
She learned about Anya and Tanya's past from Halon. They were abandoned by their parents and became successful assassins at only eight years of age. Lucius saved them and they’ve been living with him for the past six years. They were the same age as Vale at 14 years old, around two years younger than her body’s current age.
While it’s true she cared for these two, the meaning of family had long become something twisted and warped inside her.
"Family" was just a convenient word to use and be used.
