Aurora was sitting in the drawing room at the table, enjoying the scenery outside the window.
Even though the snow was piled up outside, today was a little sunnier than usual. The sunlight from the three large windows lit the room, letting her see just how amazing the room was.
There was a decent collection of books on the shelves, a fireplace that activated with a rune, and chairs and couches that gave off a cozy, welcoming feeling.
Aurora sipped from the warm tea and took a bite from one of the colorful macarons presented in front of her. As she ate, the person sitting across from her stared in silence.
He took note that she seemed to enjoy eating sweets.
It’s just that he wasn’t necessarily right. Aurora didn’t particularly like or hate sweets, she was just very conscious of those prying blue eyes watching her every movement!
Unfortunately, it was this misunderstanding today that Aurora would suffer from being stuffed to death with sweets in the future.
While she was also very well aware of another pair of eyes glaring at her, she disregarded him and continued to focus on eating.
The room was so quiet that the chirping birds outside were starting to annoy her. Unable to take it anymore, even though he was the one who called for her, she broke the silence. "Your Grace, Halon said you'd like to speak with me?"
Lucius took a sip of tea and asked her with a serious expression. “Vale told me about what happened. Do you…want to have a child?”
“Gughhughufuh!!” This was the sound Aurora made when she almost choked on the macaroon. She quickly picked up the glass of water on the side and gulped down a mouthful. "Haaahhh..." Placing a hand on her chest, she took a deep breath.
‘That was too close. She almost spat out the food in her mouth onto his clothes. That would have been a disaster!’
While thinking this, she wiped her mouth with a handkerchief in a graceful demeanor, as though she didn’t almost suffocate to death.
Aurora wanted to yell at him not to ask such ridiculous questions without an explanation!
Like last time when he asked about them getting married. She just couldn’t understand what this man was thinking. It felt as though she had been struck on the head!
With an odd smile on her face, she replied to his question with a question. “Can. You. Please. Explain?”
“Vale said you refused to take the contraception concocted by his Grandfather despite explaining how it isn't harmful to your body?”
Aurora glanced at Vale, who was quietly standing behind Lucius with a smirk plastered on his face.
Towards this child, she was starting to lose her patience with him. To think he'd mention this thing to the Duke.
“So, Your Grace thought the reason I rejected the medicine was due to my desire for having a child?”
Lucius nodded his head. And then shook his head.
‘Which is it?!’ < - Aurora
“My name,” Lucius said quietly.
‘Is this the right time for that?!’ Aurora ignored it. “Your Gra…”
“Name...” Lucius interrupted again.
“…Duke Rizar has…”
“Name.”
“….Lucius!!”
“Yes.”
Aurora sighed in resignation. “How childish.”

“Is that so? As my fiancé and future wife, you need to get used to calling me as such.”
Ah. Was that why he kept bothering her about his name these past few days?
Aurora glanced at Lucius.
There was a small smile on his face.
…Somehow, she doubts that’s the only reason.
“As I was trying to say earlier, there’s no need for you to worry about me getting pregnant.”
Lucius didn’t say anything for a while and then opened his mouth to ask. “Why?”
Aurora slowly closed her eyes.
“I’m unable to bear a child.” She opened her eyes and said with a wry smile. “A well-known Doctor said I was born this way. That my body was unable to carry a child."
This subject was something that brought her great conflict in the past.
Aurora was a Princess part of the Imperial Family. To make sure she was healthy, Doctors and Priests examined her once every week. That meant, there was no way her parents were not aware of her condition.
And they kept it from her to protect her.
A Princess who wasn't able to have children was useless. No one would want to marry her.
It wasn't until much later she realized something was wrong. In her late twenties, she was lucky to encounter a well-known Doctor with the ability to use healing magic. He told her that the cause of her infertility was the fire attribute she used. He couldn't explain the reason clearly, but the flames she thought to be useless, was instead harming her body.
Aurora was relieved and sad at the same time. Relieved for not having to bear a bastard's child. She didn't want that child to end up suffering with her, as she was a wanted fugitive.
And sad that she would never be able to leave behind anything after her death.
Never be able to bring a new life into the world.
Never able to hold their small hands and feet.
Never to give or receive their love.
It made her heart tighten in longing.
“I see...” Lucius’s temple visibly tensed when he sensed her thoughts.
Yearning and sadness.
No, he didn’t want her to misunderstand.
“My reason for me not wanting a child doesn’t have anything to do with you.”
At that moment, a furious, frightening expression flashed across Lucius' face that made even Aurora recoil in fear. When he realized that his bloodthirsty aura had leaked, he quickly regained his composure.
“Unlike my Father, who was proud of our bloodline even though it caused my Mother to suffer, I refuse to allow my children to carry this burden. Therefore I will apologize to you now, and I hope you can understand.”
His blue eyes piercingly stared at her.
“Even if you become the Duchess, I will never have a child with you.”
