Halon, with a smile still on his face, opened the door, and pushed Gaius inside from behind.
Although Halon didn't look like it, he was quite strong. If it wasn't due to an injury he received long ago, instead of his brother, he would have become the Captain of the Rizar Knights.
Slamming the door shut, Halon trapped Gaius in the room.
"..." With no way out, he could only reluctantly face Lucius.
Fortunately, Aurora was no longer sitting on the Duke's lap and was back to her previous spot.
Lucius tried to speak again but the blacksmith interrupted. “I’ve had your servants prepare one of your bedrooms for the inscription. I don’t want to see your face for too long, so let’s get this over with.” Gaius scowled, annoyed at being exposed to such a scene earlier.
“…Yes…” The Duke placed his hand over his mouth and cleared his throat. “Do you have any new information?”
Gaius glanced at Aurora with wariness.
He still didn’t like this woman with a suspicious background. She was getting too close to the Duke too fast.
Lucius who didn’t care for the opposite sex seems to treat her special. He didn't understand what the Duke, who abandoned his little sister, was doing with this unknown woman.
Gaius was well aware of how Lucius cold-blooded could be. He also knew the reason why. And that’s what frightened him.
This man who treated humans as pawns was now displaying various forms of emotions.
That’s why he knew the relationship between this woman and Lucius would not end up well for either of them.
“Speak,” Lucius demanded coldly.
The blacksmith sighed. For now, he couldn't do anything about it. There was only one person who might be able to interfere with what's happening. It would be better to send him a letter as soon as possible.
“There’s unrest between the citizens. Or to be more specific, between the commoners and aristocrats. Three ladies from Noble families have gone missing, after which two commoners were then killed. They are blaming each other for what’s happening. In response to protect themselves, those with Familiars are harming normal citizens."
Lucius' eyebrows scrunched. "Ridiculous."
Using Familiars on normal people without the Emperor's permission was a capital offense, and considered as betraying the Empire. Even if it's to protect themselves, there were numerous other ways to do so without using their Familiar.
“We can only try quickly finding the one behind this to calm things down." He pointed out with resignation. "For now, I have provided your Captain with assistance in finding a connection between the five victims. The two who were killed, we determined it was through the use of a thirty layer magic array."
"Thirty layers, you said? How's that possible?"
The more layers an array has, the more difficult it is to control. The largest used array is the ten layer array used for the summoning ritual. Who was capable of pulling off such a complicated formation?
"I'll let you know once I figure out how it works. There's something else..."
Gaius turned to look at Aurora.
She was so absorbed in reading a book that she didn't bother showing interest in their conversation. Even though they were talking about people dying and disappearing, she didn't care at all.
But Gaius didn't call her out on it. Instead, he pointed a strange coincidence that bothered him about the victims. "Even though the victims are citizens of this City, they barely have any connection with each other. The only thing that stood out was all five being beautiful young women with green eyes and brown hair between the ages of 15 and 20."
Brown hair?
And green eyes?
Between 15 to 20 years old?
Gaius continued to stare at Aurora, while Lucius turned his head towards.

It can’t be...?
Was there a connection between Aurora's kidnapping and the current incidents?
Lucius' brows wrinkled as the corners of his mouth turned down. “Send me a file on those five victims."
"No need." Gaius took out a file from inside his suit jacket and handed it to him.
Lucius scanned through the files. When he saw the name of someone familiar, he paused. "She is...isn't she that exchange student's companion?" He pointed at the picture of a young girl.
"Yes." The blacksmith confirmed Lucius' suspicions. He raised an eyebrow. "Because of that, your Captain is exhausted every morning having to deal with that very same exchange student. While it was amusing at first seeming him miserable, it's causing the investigation to slow instead."
Lucius' mouth twitched. As always, Gaius and Raya didn't get along with each other. If he didn't ask Gaius to work with Raya to solve this case, he'd try his best to avoid him.
Still, the Duke didn't realize that those people were still here. If anything happens to that person in his Dukedom, he'll never hear the end of it from the Emperor.
How troublesome.
"What else?”
“For now, we've found eighty-two young ladies with the same descriptions and have assigned a Knight to each one."
"Eighty-two......" Protecting all those ladies, while at the same time guarding the City and investigating this incident...if they send one Knight to look after a single person who knows how much loss will occur?
“And..." Gaius hesitated to say the rest.
"Continue," Lucius sternly indicated for the blacksmith to proceed.
Gaius didn't know if he should tell Lucius, but it was better than him finding out later. "Earl Ruben Vel Nolbeia contacted your Captain. The Earl claims to have additional information and has requested your presence at Yulia Vel Nolbeia's birthday banquet.”
Ruben Vel Nolbeia, the President of the Blacksmith Association, Anvilus. If it wasn't for that person, the association would have fallen apart after the previous leader's death. The Vel Nolbeia Family were responsible for making armor and weapons, and teaching potential blacksmiths who can eventually become craftsman who can make special weapons.
Lucius didn't have anything against Ruben, but the Earl would constantly try to pair him with Yulia due to her obsession with him.
Heh.
That cunning old thing was still concocting all kinds of schemes.
“Fine, I'll go." Lucius waved in his hand, wanting to quickly change the subject. He was already tired just from thinking about Ruben. "I need you to inform Raya to provide the results of the investigation to the entire Dukedom."
"Isn't that dangerous? What if the one behind this sees it?"
"It's doesn't matter. It will not cause too much damage and will calm the people's anger for a while. Also, make up an excuse to have those eighty-two ladies gather in one place until this is over. We don't have the leisure to spare so many Knights right now."
"Hhaaaahh? How am I supposed to do that?!"
Lucius blinked his eyes. "How should I know? Figure that out yourself."
"___" Gaius' expression warped into something unknown as he couldn't believe the words coming out of the Duke's mouth.
The blacksmith wanted to quickly return to his shop and resume his main job. He only planned on helping them for a while because Lucius asked him to. And yet, he keeps on adding more unreasonable demands.
Gaius could only hold back his tears...
