Lucius had a bad feeling about the current incidents occurring in Elran City right under his nose. He didn't think their objective was simply about Aurora. If so, why kill young ladies who have nothing to do with her besides having similar appearances?
The Duke's brows further scrunched as he concentrated on his thoughts.
The faster he dealt with this, the better.
He might need to directly take part in the investigations.
Lucius stared at Gaius. "Make sure to remind those with a Familiar about the consequences for attacking normal civilians. If they still cause trouble, have their sigils erased. Kill those who resist." When saying that last part, he emitted a bone-chilling aura.
Gaius stiffened, while Aurora didn't react in any way and continued reading her book. Seeing this, the blacksmith was shocked. How can a 15 years old girl block such a thick, bloodthirsty aura without care?
But Gaius didn't know, Lucius aura did affect her at first. It was only after a while Aurora was able to get used to it.
Even so, it should be difficult for anyone to 'get used to' Lucius' aura.
The aura coming from Lucius was something that every member from the direct bloodline of the Rizar family has. Their mana and aura were so overwhelming that anyone who approached them would instinctually fear them. And even if one was able to get past that frightening aura to get close enough, the moment a Rizar directed their aura towards them, they can only turn tail and escape.
There were only two types of people who'd be able to completely resist.
The first were those who have already killed so many people to the point that a person's life was simply one that can be taken.
And the second were those who Lucius himself, thought of as special. Even without meaning to, he'd hold back so as to not harm them.
Gaius observed Aurora. 'I wonder which one you are?'
"Gaius?"
The blacksmith returned his attention towards Lucius. "Shouldn't you at least hold a trial?"
"Why? They should be executed for treason in the first place."
Gaius started muttering under his breath. "Can't your Captain or Vice-Captain handle it? I have better things to do, you know?" In this past year, the only time he left the front of his furnace was to buy groceries and visit his little sister.
“Siathrich is on a different assignment. And right now, I'd rather Raya focus on handling this case.”
“...Fine.” He snorted. “I’ll take care of it. I'll also figure out the array. But! After that, I'm not going to involve myself with this anymore!”
“You also agreed to become her instructor.” Lucius pointed at Aurora.
“ #6#(-!-” Gaius cursed vehemently while glaring at the Duke as though he wanted to rip him into pieces. "I told you what I can teach her is limited. Shouldn’t she be in school instead?”
“She doesn’t want to go.”
Aurora nodded her head as she listened to their conversation.
Go back to school??
She’d rather have let that beast from the Corrupted Region swallow her whole.
“You only need to teach her some common sense, Rune Magic and the summoning ritual. As a previous Rune Mage, that should be easy for you, yes?” Lucius said with his eyes narrowed into slits.
What Lucius forgot to mention to Aurora before was how the previous Duke supported Gaius' family, and in return, his father was to swear loyalty to the Rizar household. Gaius’ father was a famous Rune Mage, but after his death, their family fell apart.
Even though they received a monthly income from the previous Duke of Rizar, they lost his favor. Gaius’ Uncle and Aunt took advantage of this, stole their income and other assets.
Until the Duke’s young son, Lucius Rizar stepped in and pointed out the potential Gaius had for surpassing his Father as a Rune Mage, and how his younger sister enjoyed practicing swordsmanship. He was the one who provided the siblings with the necessary resources and protection of the Rizar name to allow them to grow without needing to fear their other family members.
If it wasn't because of that, the blacksmith wouldn't be at this man's mercy.

“Tsk!” Gaius clicked his tongue.
‘After everything I provided for you to become a highly respectable Rune Mage, you quit and became a blacksmith. I didn’t even say anything then, but now you don’t even know how to teach a child?’
The blacksmith knew this was what Lucius meant.
So in the end, Gaius could only meekly nod his head like a child who was just scolded.

Lucius, Gaius, and Aurora changed locations to the bedroom Halon prepared. Placed on a table were the tools Gaius planned on using for her sigil.
“I’ll take this chance to give you your first lesson. You know the purpose of a sigil, yes?” Gaius asked Aurora. Despite his reluctance at first, he quickly fell into his role of a teacher.
“It’s a rune inscribed on humans to tap into the mana core. It allows humans to activate other runes and use magic.”
Lucius quietly sat in the chair as he listened.
“Yes and no. Runes are ancient characters that are said to long ago be used by Gods. The reason it’s weaker than Spirit Magic is that humans don't know how to truly utilize runes. Rune characters were lost until a Witch revealed those characters. It's said she was given a blessing by one of the Supreme Gods, but it was never revealed from which God or even if it was the truth. That Witch taught humans how to use Rune Magic.”
A Witch…helped humans learn how to use Rune Magic?
Aurora was left dumbfounded.
Is this the reason Witches were treated differently from one thousand year ago?
It would make sense why the Holy Temple gave Witches the title of Saint...
“The Magic Research Institute was created to study runes. Besides the 33 rune characters the Witch revealed, they were able to create their own runes, which is what we call man-made runes. These runes are mostly inscribed on parchments or objects.”
Oh, it’s what Sia tried to explain to her before.
“A sigil is different than a simple rune inscription. You can say it’s a small magic array. Depending on the type of sigil you're given, you can use basic spells pertaining to your attributes. Let me show you.”
He picked up a writing utensil and started to sketch. He was quick and skillful as he drew with precision and fine detail. Two minutes later, he held up the paper for her to see. "These are the two main types of sigils. A three and five-layered sigil."
There were two explicitly drawn out magic arrays on the paper.
“This is a three-layered sigil that every common person has. The first layer, which is the one in the center, is the rune for mana. It is used for the connection and transformation of the world’s energy to a person’s mana core. The second layer includes the runes for the four main elements, while the third has runes for the four cardinal points, North, West, East, and South. The four directions embody the energy of the earth. It correlates with the four aspects of being.”
He pointed at each rune and patiently told her their names and what they mean.
Nordri for North is the body and represents the Earth element. Vestri for West is the spirit and represents the Water element. Austri for East is the soul and represents the Fire element. And Sudri for South is the mind and represents the Wind element.
The runes for the four elements are:
Fehu for Fire. Laguz for Water. Algiz for Air. Uruz for Earth.
