Ignoring Lucius' intense stare, Gaius continued to show Aurora the last item used for the sigil.
He picked up a thick two-layered silver cuff bracelet with the image of a tree carved on it. "This is a magical artifact made from an old tree meant to block the pain signals using eleven levels. Ten being the highest and one being the lowest. Zero completely nullifies the pain.”
Gaius showed her how you adjust the bracelet over ten levels by turning the top layer. Each turn will reveal a new rune over the arrow on the bottom layer.
Aurora found it odd.
If such a magical artifact is needed, the inscription of a sigil must be very painful. But why did it have levels? Why not just completely block the pain signals?
Gaius smiled at Aurora for the first time. “You realized the truth behind the bracelet without me saying it.”
Aurora nodded her head. “The more pain you endure, the better.”
“Exactly. The more you endure, the higher the rate of assimilation, the easier it is for one to use their sigil. Someone who has an assimilation rate of 60% can activate a rune 2x faster than one with an assimilation rate 0f 20%.”
“What is the average percentage rate of assimilation?” Aurora was curious at what was considered normal.
“It’s 60%. The rate is pretty low, considering we usually receive our sigils at a young age, but most Noble families wait until their child turns 15 to increase it."
"Why 15?"
Gaius stayed silent for a few seconds as he thought about something.
He thought this earlier, but wasn't this girl to ignorant about the Empire and common sense. Lucius told him she was his long distant cousin who lived in a very small, isolated village. Of course, Gaius didn't believe him at all. Still, to think she didn't even know about the common sense in the Empire. The 13 laws of the Empire were considered common sense since even children from small villiages were taught this at a very young age.
Who was this girl, really?
The blacksmith answered her question as though nothing was wrong. "Right, after you turn 16 years old, you can no longer get a sigil. It's a law passed down from the previous Emperor to keep us from losing control over our sigil."
Lucius observed Aurora’s expression. Even without her saying it, he knew what she was thinking.
“Then…I don’t need it.”
Gaius froze. “Yes?”
“That bracelet.” She pointed at the artifact he was holding, and without a single bit of hesitation detected in her voice, she repeated the same words.
“I don’t need it.”
Lucius' lips lifted in a smirk. He knew it.
He wanted to burst out in laughter at her reckless courage. Really. She certainly knows how to keep him entertained.
Gaius pinched the bridge of his nose. “I know you’re trying to show off how useful you are…” He glared at the Duke, who pretended as this had nothing with him. “…But you’re being impulsive.”
"And you!" Gaius pointed at Lucius. "Stop smirking and say something to her!"
Lucius shrugged his shoulders.
That's wasn't it at all. Aurora wasn’t thinking about proving herself.
Aurora only thought that compared to being burned alive, this should be easy. Then, she didn’t need it. If she can reach a higher rate of assimilation, the easier she will be able to use runes, which will be helpful when she studies her theory of summoning spirit beasts.
Seeing that she didn't plan on changing her mind, Gaius tried to convince her otherwise. “I get it. But listen carefully, the pain you feel will not be ‘skin deep’. Until I finish inscribing the sigil, the ink will continuously attack your mana core as it tries to merge with it. I’ve heard it’s even more painful for those with a powerful mana core.”
Gaius, who still didn't know about her true identity, wasn't aware how much that last line of his was directed at Aurora. Meaning, as a Witch, she might not even able to endure until he reached the half point.
Still, she didn't want to give up. Aurora quietly listened to Gaius, with no intention of going back on her decision.
“Give up,” Lucius advised him with a light tone when he saw the glint in her eyes.
Gaius frowned. Seeing no way out of this predicament, he finally agreed to leave the bracelet out. “You can’t move at all until I finish. When the last line connects with your core, it will feel as though you are being torn apart. If you move or pass out before then, the sigil will be useless.”
Aurora nodded her head.
“One last thing, where do you want your sigil? Most aristocrats enjoy showing off and having it on their forehead, hand, or arm. It usually doesn’t matter where you put it on your body, but I suggest you hide yours.”

“Why?”
“You are the only person who will have a triple-attribute sigil, so you'll stand out whether you like it or not. And too much attention can be fatal.”
Aurora took a moment to think about it.
“Then, on my back between my shoulder blades.”
Her reason for choosing that place was simple.
She didn’t want to stand out.
Just as Gaius said, too much attention would cause her unending trouble. She’ll already receive unwanted attention just by becoming Lucius’ fiancée. More than that wasn’t good.
"I need you to take the top part of your dress off and lay on your stomach on the bed.”
If it were any other noble lady, then they would have made a fuss about showing too much skin in front of a male. But for Aurora, this didn’t faze her at all. Besides, she only needed to unzip the back to reveal her back, so she did not think anything of it.
So, the Princess who no longer cared about the ‘etiquette’ between men and women who are not married, asked Gaius to unzip the back of her dress.
Which was also a problem on its own…
Gaius, the former Rune Mage and current blacksmith who always prioritized his work did not have any experience with women. He was so dense that he would not recognize when a woman was flirting with him. Despite how other men saw her, to him Aurora was only 15 years old brat.
Unfortunately for the blacksmith, when his hand reached out to Aurora’s dress, he wasn’t aware of the growing snowstorm sitting behind him until it was too late…
Anya and Tanya slammed the door to the room opened when they suddenly felt the entire mansion turn cold. It was as if the inside turned into winter itself.
When they saw the situation in front of them, the twins stood shocked.
"W-what's going on??" Anya said with her mouth wide open.
Tanya found herself trying to hold back her laughter.
"Big sis?" Anya wondered what was so funny.
"No...it's just...pwaha!" It was the first time she saw their master like this.
Tanya glaced at Lucius and snickered.
Gaius had his hand on Aurora's dress.
Lucius appeared as though he was about to kill the blacksmith.
And the cause of this awkward moment was oblivious to what was happening in front of her.
In the end, the twin maids threw both Lucius and Gaius outside the room. As they nagged Aurora for her lack of awareness as a woman, the two helped her unzip her dress and prepared the bed for her to lay comfortably on. While she was still wearing her dress, they decided to also cover her with sheets.
With her back bare, Aurora laid on the bed with her head turned towards the door. She nodded her head to gesture for Anya to call them back in.
Before he started the inscription, Gaius showed her a drawing of her sigil and explained the three extra runes in the middle.
"Since you are a triple attribute holder, your sigil will be slightly different. Besides the four main elements, your sigil will also include the runes for light, fire, and darkness. For you to better utilize spells related to your elements, you will eventually need to learn everything about these three. Including their history, the Gods they represent and the abilities you can use or maybe one day create.”
Aurora found the connection between the runes and Gods fascinating.
If one can completely decipher the runes and use their full powers, then can that person be considered to be on the level of a God?
“One more thing. When the sigil is successful, the color will change to that of your highest affinity. Seeing as you have superior affinity for both fire and darkness…even I’m not sure which aspect it will take.”
...
If anything, she’d rather it didn’t take on the color of darkness.
