Going back two weeks before the incident in Londo.
Aurora ended up passing out just before Gaius said he finished. When she woke up a few hours later and saw the confusion on Lucius’ and the blacksmith’s face, she thought she failed.
“It’s okay. The sigil was completed."
Her pleased expression vanished with the next two words that came out of his mouth.
"I think,” Gaius told her with his brows scrunched in bewilderment.
“What happened?” What would she do if she couldn't use runes? She'll be unable to complete her summoning theory, and her agreement with Lucius would fall apart.
“Hmm. Well. Uhm.” The blacksmith hesitated, wondering how he should tell her.
"??? Is something wrong?"
“I’m sorry. I’m not sure how to explain it. It's an odd situation that has never happened before."
Why wasn’t she surprised? Strange things kept happening since after her supposed death. It didn't shock her anymore.
“You remember how I said the color of the sigil will change to one of your affinities? It didn’t. It just...disappeared.”
The sigil.....what? It disappeared?
Then that meant it failed, didn’t it?!
Lucius approached Aurora. "Let me show you." He held out his hand for hers.
Aurora looked at his hand and placed her hand in it. For some reason, it felt as though them holding hands was a natural occurrence.
Before she stood up from the bed, Lucius glared at Gaius.
"What?" The blacksmith, dense as ever, didn't understand what was going on.
When Lucius' stare was enough to make him stiffen, he remembered what happened earlier when he almost died for helping her unzip her dress.
"Oh..." Scratching the back of his head awkwardly, Gaius finally turned around.
Aurora, who looked back and forth between the two, could not help but chuckle. She found the blacksmith was rather adorable at times, despite his large size.
When Aurora stood up, Lucius led her to the mirror and made her back face it. As his fingers brushed across her skin to move the back of her dress, their eyes met in the mirror.
His piercing blue eyes were like that of a prey-seeking beast, observing her every single movement. As if possessed, she found herself staring straight back, unable to avoid him. She shivered as his fingers continued moving down her back. Aurora gasped when she saw that his blue eyes were starting to slightly take on a gold tint. It felt as if she returned to that first night when he had lost all reason.
What was going on?
Was the curse already acting up? Now? Right here, at this moment?!
No way!!
"Are you finished yet?" When Gaius called out, breaking their heated gazes, Lucius pulled his hand back.
Taking a deep breath, he answered the blacksmith. "Wait."
The tone of voice was laced with unrestrained desire.

Lucius had almost lost his reason again. It was due to Aurora's pain he picked up on earlier, and put together with seeing her bare, pale skin, his mana quickly became unstable.
Clenching his teeth, Lucius quickly moved the top part of her dress a little so she can see it.
Aurora turned her head to glance at the mirror, and as the two said, there was nothing there. Despite all the pain she had to endure from the feeling of having her skin peeled off, there was not a single mark. It was as if what she went through earlier was just an illusion.
"There's nothing there."
Sensing Aurora's burning anger on his back, Gaius gave her an explanation without turning back. “It didn’t fail,” he said with conviction this time.
This time, it was Lucius' turn to burn a hole through Gaius. "Give a proper explanation."
Gaius shivered at the Duke's icy voice. "Ah, please, don't send such a heavy killing intent my way. As I told you before, it's my first time engraving such a high level sigil with a triple attribute. Even I'm not sure what would happen."
When Lucius narrowed his eyes, the blacksmith cleared his throat. "However, a Rune Mage will immediately know when the sigil has become useless due to losing connection with the person’s mana core. Still, there is a way to make sure.”
“Oh.” Aurora’s brows furrowed. “How?”
“Simple, you will activate a basic rune.”
Aurora nodded her head to Lucius, who helped her zip the back of her dress. "You can turn around now."
Gaius looked around the room to see what rune she could try to activate. “Ah. How about that?” He pointed next to the door.
There was a symbol carved on the wall there.
Aurora was aware of that rune. The servants used it to brighten the inside of the rooms at night.
“It’s called the light rune. Although it uses the light element, it was adjusted to let others use it as well. Place your hand over it and move your mana from your mana core towards the middle of your back. Don’t force it. If your sigil works, it should be able to do the rest once your mana starts flowing.”
Aurora walked over and did what he said. She placed her hand over it and started to concentrate. What surprised both Gaius and Lucius was that it didn’t even take her a full second to activate the light.
The entire room instantly brightened, giving off a halo effect.
Actually, wait a minute......! Isn't this too bright?!!
"Aurora!" She could hear Gaius call out to her. Even though he should be right behind her, his voice was so distant. 'Still, isn't this the first time Gaius called her name directly?'
"Take your hand off the rune!"
Aurora jolted. Right, now wasn't the time to think about that!
She tried to do as he said, but it was as though something was sucking her in. The flow of her mana was moving at a frightening speed, all rushing to one place.
As seconds passed, the room glowed a dangerously bright color.
All three had to close their eyes to shield themselves from the light or risk causing damage to their eyes. From outside the mansion, it probably seemed as if a small sun came out in the room.
Aurora felt an uncomfortable burning sensation in the middle of her back, which made her lose focus. What happened next caused everyone there to hold their breath in alarm.
Gaius stepped back in shock. “Lucius!!!!” He urgently called out for the Duke to stop her. But even before he called for him, Lucius was already moving.
Ignoring the blaring light, he forcefully opened his eyes and ran to Aurora’s side. The moment his hand touched hers, a shock ran through her body, and she finally lost connection with the rune. Lucius moved her hand away from the rune, wrapped his left arm around her waist, turned around, and pulled her with him across the room as it started trembling.
