Fallen Time

Chapter 3

Story by: RenderLeaf

————————————————————

A couple of weeks past by, my parents wanted to go on vacation to our original hometown. Before I had lost my memories in an accident, they had told me I used to have a lot of friends back there. Our purpose of vacationing here was to help me regain some of my memories back, like a sort of rehabilitation. My parents wouldn’t tell me about the accident, they said I’m better off not knowing about it. We arrive and start unloading our stuff, the house was still in good condition, pictures of me in the past were hung up on the walls and more set down on the hallway dressers. I glanced over at the pictures, I looked so happy, their were two people on both sides of me, I’m guessing those were my friends from a long time ago. I finish unpacking my stuff and set out for a little stroll at the park.

As the sun began to set, I found myself walking near the park that my parents told me I used to go to as a child. I had always loved the peaceful atmosphere, I could never forget that feeling. Although I couldn't recall all of them, It felt like I was missing pieces of my own history.

As I strolled through the park, I suddenly caught sight of someone familiar in the distance. It was a girl with long, wavy black hair and a bright smile on her face. I couldn't quite place where I had seen her before.

I approached her and tentatively called out, "Excuse me, sorry to bother you, but do I know you from somewhere?"

The girl turned and looked at me, her eyes lighting up in recognition. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "I don't think so. I'm sorry, you must have mistaken me for someone else."

I frowned in disappointment. "Oh, well. Sorry for bothering you."

I turned to walk away, but then I heard the girl call out to me. “Wait! Actually, yes, we used to go to the same elementary school. My apologies. You were in the same grade as me. It's just that you don't look the same as how I remembered you, you’ve grown, Kitaro.” She smiles.

"I'm sorry," I said, feeling guilty. "I lost half of my memories years ago so I still can’t really remember who you are, but all I know is you were definitely someone I knew in the past.”

"Oh..” She said with a gloom look. “Sorry to hear that," She said, her expression sympathetic. "But it's nice to see you again, even if it's under these circumstances. What brings you to the park today?"

"I used to come here a lot when I was younger, or so what my parents told me.” I replied. "I just wanted to take a walk to see if I can recall something.”

"Yup! your parents are right, me, you and Shiro used to-“ She pauses. “Nevermind.” She chuckles. “I love coming to this park too. It's such a peaceful place."

I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it definitely is. It's nice to run into someone I am familiar with too.”

She chuckled. "Yeah, it's a small world.” I watch the sun as it is setting then turn towards her, “So, what’s your name?” I asked.

She smiles. “The name is Kira, Makatama Kira.”

And with that, we began chatting and catching up, enjoying each other's company under the setting sun.
