Chapter 35: Great change and gondolia

When alastair left the system menu the change in his body was immediate and dramatic as his body began to steam and released a heat wave that drew the groups attention. the group watched curiously as alastair grew larger and larger until he reached a terrifying height of eight feet and a half before the heat coming off of him greatly intensified. as the heat increase more and more alastair began to shrink , no not shrink compress further and further until he reached a height of six feet two inches were his body began to cool off and stop steaming.

Once the steam dissipated the group got the first real look at his body and were confused since he no longer had extremely pronounced muscles. instead alastairs body seemed perfectly lean with no more muscle than was necessary much like a male model. the most noticeable difference however was that alastairs skin seemed almost unusually smooth like polished metal. "is that it?" veronica asked in disbelief. alastair opened his eyes since he had closed them from the steam "yes this is it" he said while marveling at his body. to the others it seemed lackluster but he knew different because of the system.

Once alastair maxed out his athletics skill he acquired a perk from the system that had the following description. {IRON BODY: The peak of human bodily perfection for combat that contains the strength of iron. +15DT +60HP}. This additional fifteen dt stacked with his toughness perk making his skin almost as hard as hardwood which is crazy enough on its own but the extra sixty hp made him even harder to kill since before this change his hp was only a hundred and twenty. now he had a crazy amount of power as well as the tankiness to ignore most injuries.

"This body isn't as simply as it seems , watch." alastair said before walking over to a mangrove tree as thick as a barrel and punching it as hard as he could. the air screamed from the pressure before exploding when alastair's fist struck the tree which shattered at the point of contact. the party looked at the falling tree with dropped jaws from shock. "sweet Yggdrasil , how does your body contain such force in such a small size?" serena asked in astonishment. "the answer to that is density or to be more specific the musculoskeletal density." alastair said.

The group then continued on their way to gondolia while discussing alastairs new body as well as speculating on what his magic will be like if it truly was next. the twins thought that the magic would be far more terrifying since at that point alastair wouldn't need to get close to his enemies like he does now. the rest of the group alastair included agreed with this assessment since using long range bombing runs would be a nightmare for anyone. this conversation was swapped for another when after alastair killed a monster it reformed from clean mana and asked to serve.

The monster in question was a weretiger that basically looked like a man in a tiger suit. alastair obviously dismissed the creature that left dejectedly. when the group asked about this odd event alastair played it off as something to do with his changing magic. the twins wanted to study this phenomena since it might help with removing or at the very least controlling monsters to stay away from the cites and roads. alastair agreed on the premise that they don't do anything weird to him in the process since it would make him extremely uncomfortable.

The party soon reached gondolia which alastair had a sneaking suspicion was venice since the locals seemed to speak Italian and architecture was practically identical. the channels of water crisscrossing throughout the entire city while beautiful seemed impractical to alastair since unlike venice this city is not build on the foundation of an older flooded city. the party asked around about the merchant with the reinbow only to find out that they had left for octagonia near zwardrust days before. seeing no choice the party followed sylvando to the docks only to be stopped since no one was allowed to sail out until the festival was over.

The party split up at that time with erik ,alastair and erisa being together while the twins went off with sylvando to enjoy the festival much the same as in the game. the following events were the same as in the game were veronica gets her staff stolen by a kid who did so because his friend was cursed in the throat so he couldn't speak. the party agreed to help and headed to the sacred spring not far from town to make some birdsong nectar that specialized in this sort of thing.

The trip to the spring ended up with alastair getting his first monster simply because he deemed it useful. the monster in question was the coralossus that guarded the spring which was a huge eight foot tall monster with a humanoid shape made out of hard coral. to be honest alastair didn't expect to get lucky enough to get such a tanky monster under his command. the twins were thrilled with the monster since they could study it to see what the difference was between this monster versus a normal one. in the end the group returned to the boys and gave them the birdsong nectar removing the curse.
