Chapter 36: Shopping and hidden waiting

The party split up again after getting thanked by the boys with the twins and sylvando going off to do something while alastair ,erik and erisa went to talk to the guy in charge of the town. the man in question was apparently called doge rotondo and he took one look at alastair and his personality seemed to flip from friendly to angry in no time at all. since it was obvious that they could not get  doge's help to leave earlier than the end of the festival alastairs group decided to check out the local market since gondolia is a trading hub.

The group found a few interesting things such as some monster materials from far off lands as well as unique ores and foods. erisa purchased a huge amount of a type of fish jerky popular up near sniffleheim that was the capital city of snaerfell. erik found a cloak that he fell in love with that a shimmering black color and had the unique quality of becoming invisible when mana was channeled into it making it perfect for stealth. alastair was bought three rare books from a traveling book vendor that were the most potent skill books he had ever seen.

These books didn't give the usual five extra points but rather fifteen each which shocked him to no end since he couldn't remember anything like that in fallout. when he looked at the description he was surprised to see an extra thing next to the title of the books. next to the title of the books a single word in parenthesis sat , the word was middle. if alastair wasn't wrong this meant that skill books had different grades with different amounts of skill points based on them. alastair reasoned that the books he had used previously were the lowest level of skill books.

The skill points were for unarmed , knowledge and crafting respectively and gave alastair that same near orgasmic rush from a large jump in skills. the group then headed towards the stage for the festival to check it out but alastair stopped the group and pulled them behind a nearby wall when he noticed a familiar blonde standing in the middle of the stage. "why did you drag us over here?" erik asked worried. "jasper is standing on the stage and we were walking straight towards him." alastair explained seriously.

Erik nodded "that definitely wouldn't have turned out good if he saw us." he said sternly. "we need to find the others." alastair said before using his face changing mask and walking away trying to look inconspicuous. erik followed with erisa from a distance as the group search for the other members of the group. jasper was standing on the stage and scanning the crowds for his prey and didn't even notice when he saw alastair due to how alastair had changed his face and had gloves that covered his mark. disappointed jasper ordered his men to take up strategic positions around the city so they would notice if alastair showed up.

Alastair found the twins and sylvando looking at clothes and walked behind sylvando as if to check the goods over his shoulder. "it's me alastair ,don't react like you know me but in an hour bring the twins to the inn near the weapon stall so we can discus the soldiers in town." alastair whispered in sylvando's ear before walking away with a fake disappointed look. sylvando put his acting skills from the circus to use and acted completely naturally during the moment with alastair before he informed the twins seriously.

An hour later the group was taking up a two bed room at specified inn that alastair chose because it was relatively hidden. "so what are these soldiers you seem so worried about darling?" sylvando asked curiously. "the soldiers are from heliodor  , the king of which seems to believe that the luminary brings the dark one into the world. basically they want to kill me for being born to save the rest of the world , which would be fine if it was actually true. cruel maybe but a small trade off for the entire world." alastair said honestly.

"How does the person meant to defeat the dark one bring them into the world , it just doesn't make sense." sylvando said honestly. "it made enough for sense for the king of heliodor to order the destruction of my home town." alastair said bitterly. "we will wait here until the festival is over then we leave immediately , agreed?" alastair changed the topic with this question. the rest of the party took the hint and agreed with his suggest with the change that they leave at least once everyday to not seem suspicious. the group had turned for the day after that in separate rooms thanks to this inn being easily overlooked.

The next three days were spent according to plan were they left once daily to mingle with the locals. jasper was growing more and more convinced that his prey had alluded him by the day. that is until he was chased out of town by doge rotondo on the second day because his son had reported him speaking to a monster before cursing him. jasper could only leave angrily because he was well aware that his mission didn't allow him to act out of line.
