Chapter 50: Sad story and mermaid charming

The sailors watched in awe as alastair left the water with electricity sparking off of him causing the water on his body to electrolyze and vanish. pulling himself onto the deck of the ship completely dry with a huge tentacle alastair dropped the thing before turning to the sailors. "sorry about that, this particular tentacular had caused us problems in the past so i apologize if i ruined your hunt." alastair said with a slight bow to show his sincerity. the sailors all made a big show of telling him that they were grateful to be rid of the beast rather than angry at his interference.

The sailors were as it turned out all from lanalulu and upon hearing that the party were heading there insisted on holding a grand feast in thanks for their help with the tentacular. the events followed the game after that with the party finding the man named kai in lanalulu and hearing his side of the story. afterwards they were told to tell the mermaid that the man she knew was long dead. after discussing the matter a bit alastair used his new magic skill to perform a common space spell known as zoom.

This magic functioned similar to the game were it allowed teleportation across vast distances , however unlike the game the actual spell required strict conditions to be used. the conditions were that you had to have been to the place beforehand and that the landscape had not been drastically altered since then. the party instantly landed on the strand and most of them felt like heaving up their stomachs from how nauseated the spell left them. after spending a moment to settle their stomachs the party told the mermaid what they had found and couldn't help but sigh when they saw how much she denied what they said.

They all felt the ache in their chest at the sadness of this story but decided to see it through and lead the mermaid to lanalulu to see the kai of the village who they had met. alastair suffered the most however as he had to teleport the entire ship back to the sea near the strand. this caused him to suffer from mind down again from the sheer amount of mana that was required. while he spent the next week resting in bed with whichever girl happened to join him the party sailed back to lanalulu mermaid following behind.

The next part followed the game with the mermaid ending her life in grief at the loss of her beloved by fading away into seafoam. she said that the parties way to the sea floor was back at the strand before she died however but none of them were happy even the slightest. the next week were spent sailing back to the strand with everyone in a saddened state from the mermaids story. they made their peace with what happened shortly before reaching the strand were they acquired lorelei's harp.

After that the party sailed back into the center of the continent ring were the sea had a pillar of light that allowed them the sink the ship to the bottom of the sea safely. the party could somehow breath underwater for some reason when the ship settled next to the city of nautica. walking along the sea floor was a new experience for most of the party with alastair being the only exception. they were greeted by a mermaid with a coral spear and armor that told them that they could breath because the queen had used her power to allow it.

This bothered alastair since it meant that their lives were technically hold in the queens hands and if she so chose could force them to drown. thankfully this didn't seem to be a problem as from the emotions of the citizens the queen was not a cruel individual. unfortunately for alastair he wasn't aware until he truly entered the city that his perfect body drew the female mermaids towards him as if they were in heat. as it turned out the pheromones he naturally released made him seem almost irresistible for women and unlike on the surface were they dissipated with the wind under the sea they permeated all around him for far longer.

The mermaids all flirted with alastair constantly which didn't seem to bother jade and erisa who much like the rest of the party simply threw him to the wolves. the entire trip to the palace was filled with alastair being flocked around by mermaids that all seemed to want a piece of him. thankfully the crowd of mermaid left when the party arrived at the palace even thought the mermaid guards also flirted with him as they brought the party up to the queen since she was in the building designed for merpeople.

The queen herself also seemed enraptured by alastair but was far more modest in her advances. the queen explained the reason for her peoples actions towards alastair as well as why he didn't affect most women he met on the surface. alastair was embarrassed to say the least at this revelation but could only sigh since it was not something that could be fixed. the queen admitted her own intoxication with him and also attempted to court him much like erisa and jade who seemed to encourage such a thing.
