“Hey, it’s better to stop doing embracing me in here, Shiori.”
“Why?”
“Why? Isn’t that obvious? Some passersby are glancing at us. Honestly, I won’t care about my own rumors, but you’ll get affected by it.”
“Figures...”
Shiori pulled herself away from me and wiped out the tears on her face. “I’ll be on my way then. Don’t worry, I won’t do those stuff from before... But, I’ve got a question though?”
“Yeah?”
“How come you’re acting okay? It’s been like few hours, but the way you act now seems too surreal. I have no prior knowledge about mental illness, but I’m sure that they’ll be in the worst state once they recover their memories. How come you don’t? Don’t your trauma get worsen once you remember all those cruel things?”
“How come you’re good even with the beating of your sister?”
“I have few loose screws in the head—That’s why.”
“I hate that you’re admitting it as if it’s a compliment.” Knitting my eyebrows.
“I’ve known it for a long time. Once I became free and saw the world, I realized that I’m different from other people. Since then, I have accepted that fact. Instead of blending in with society, I just do my own thing. That way, I won’t care less about how other people view me. And, I know what you are doing, Tatsuya. Don’t try to deviate the conversation away from the real question. Koichiro-sama already told me everything about you.”
“Tch, I thought that would work. Haaah... On your question, I don’t know. I just woke up like this.” shrugging my shoulder.
“Remember, don’t force yourself. And, don’t tell Yuki-sama about it or I’ll get into trouble. Anyway, sooner or after, Koichiro-sama will contact you to check on your condition. He’ll be keeping in check, so ready yourself, Tatsuya. Bye~”
After bidding farewell, Shiori left me while still wiping the tears out of her eyes. I still sat on the bench while peering gaze at the tree above me. The rustling sound of the leaves is soothing and a great thing to behold.
The unexpected became the reality for Shiori; I didn’t expect her to work along with gramps. As for saving me, I don’t know. There’s a chance that the Hatsumi Family got some intel on the maids that used to work on the mansion. To learn the truth, I need to ask gramps directly instead of mulling over my thoughts.
“Mmmm...” stretching my neck and arms.
Later, while I have gone off to the clubroom and did some club activities with the others; naturally, all of us were present in the room. During that time, I’m having some awkward moments with Yokota because of certain someone, her sister to be exact. I need to go deep into that matter next time.
After school, I’m the only one who will visit Arima at the hospital even though Naoki persisted in coming along, but Yuki dragged her out somewhere; Yuki will probably go to tell her what happened, and because of that, I’m in danger later. Which means I’ll be on my own for this one. Yes, it sounds bad, but I’m pretty sure someone’s monitoring me.
Once I packed all of my stuff in my bag, I went my way into the hospital alone. While heading my way out of the school gate, I saw a glimpse of Nagasawa and his gang on the way out. Nagasawa’s eyes glance at me, so I gave him a kind smile. Because of it, he’s perplexed by my smile. Then I completely ignore him on the way out.
Passing by other students that came from another school, I got stopped by few girls along the way, which honestly annoyed me to some degree. I hate getting attention. If I’m only wearing my hoodie, I wouldn’t be this miserable about rejecting these girls. That went for a few times until I reached the hospital, and of course, the nurses too. Who wouldn’t expect that?
“Excuse me, can I ask about Arima Koichi, the one who just got admitted here recently?” I asked the nurse at the information desk.
“Oh—Let me check first, please give me a second.”
“Thank you.”
Waiting for a while. “Ward 204.”
“Thank you, nee-san.” I bowed respectfully before going to Arima.
Now, in front of the door, I opened it and saw the miserable state of Arima with bandages all over him. Beside him were his mother and little sister. I greeted them.
“Good afternoon, Arima’s mother and his imouto.”

“Oh, you’re here. The teachers already told me what happened. Thank you.” Arima’s mother thanked me.
“Please, no need to thank me. I’m just doing what’s right, plus I’m devastated at what happened to him.” I smiled faintly, brooding over how I’m able to prevent it which bothered me. It can’t be helped because I can’t predict the future nor can do everything.
After the greeting, Aunt Arima went out of the room, leaving Arima and his sister all alone in this room. Since earlier, she’s been watching me, not even blinking her eyes like a creepy person. At our first meeting, she has been always interested in me, and I don’t find anything wrong with it, but if she’s acting like this; I better stay away from her as possible. I’ve already got borderline yanderes and I’m not interested in adding more.
“Hey, why are you friend with Aniki?” Imouto-san said to me with a friendly smile on her face.
Whoa, quite a casual fella.
“Because we’re friends? What reason do I need to have to be friends with him?”
“Yes? Everyone does right?”
“Not quite? I mean, he’s a funny and friendly person.”
“Yeah... If it weren’t for that bitch. He would be living like a normal person.”
“Huh? Do you mean Ide Aoi, his childhood friend?”
“Childhood friend, my ass, she’s just a slut who has a peanut brain, but the same could be said for my idiot Aniki too. I don’t get why he’s still trying to force himself on that girl. There are so many women in the world, but why is he so fixated on that girl?”
“Wow, you must be close to Arima?”
“Not really, but he’s the least decent one in the family. The eldest sibling, my brother, who's working as a model. You remember him right?”
“Yeah, he’s a...”
“Full of himself, right? He’s been arrogant ever since we’re still kids, an attention-seeker. Then there are my idiotic parents, who spoil him very much because he’s the smartest child in the family. They’re all idiots with puny brains.”
“Whoa-whoa, I know it’s wrong about cursing your own parents, but go on.”
“Okay...? Once you learn the personality of my parents and that attention seeker brother of mine, you would want to leave the house right away. That’s why I at least appreciate this kind of idiotic brother, who can’t stop himself from interfering in the slut’s life.”
“You know a lot, huh?”
“Of course, I’m just right next door whenever he’s crying all night. Has he told you what happened to him?”
“Y-Yeah... About the police case, right?”
“Yeah, that one. Can’t you believe the audacity of our parents when learned about my brother’s rumors? ‘It will go away after a few weeks or so.’ I heard them saying that in front of my brother! I’m not that close to this idiot, but he’s the only person whom I can really rely on when I have a problem. I at least have the decency to care...”
Honestly, I didn’t expect her to rant to me about her parents; however, I do agree with her about the behavior of their parents toward their own son who’s clearly in need of their help, but they chose to ignore it as a whole without trying to understand the entire situation. Hearing that, I only felt bad more toward Arima.
Comparing it to my parents, it’s like night and day because whenever something happens to me they would go crazy and will do anything for me; clearly showing how they love me. But in Arima’s case, I don’t know what to say but be sympathetic. Obviously, my family is not always the happy-go-lucky type, reminiscing about the time where my father and mother fought for almost a few months straight because of disagreement about what’s best for me. Luckily, they haven’t fought each other because of jealousy, or perhaps I haven’t seen it.
I smiled slightly and said. “At least your brother has you on his side.”
“I can’t say that for sure. I didn’t do anything for him. Only watching on the sideline, while he perishes, I’m a coward. I sure can talk big, but I’m a coward.” Imouto-san lowered her gaze.
“As long as you care for him, one day, you’ll find your own courage to help him. But, I think that courage needs to be now because I have no idea what’s happening around Arima. I’m completely clueless.”
