“—??”
Arima was still staring at me with a contempt look that it’s making me uncomfortable. Since I can’t take it anymore, it forced me to break the silence between us.
“Oi, Arima. Are you going to say anything?”
“Are you an angel?”
“Where did that come from?”
“Ah, nothing. I’m just too happy. I don’t know if you’re really the cause of it, but if it’s really you, then you have my greatest gratitude.”
“I did nothing. She just explained some stuff to me and scolded her a little.”
“Regardless of that, you still have my thanks.”
Arima’s mouth curved upwards, letting out a little chuckle. His face tells that the outcome of my talk with her childhood friend earlier signifies an immense satisfaction to him. Though, I don’t know what she said to him.
“What did she even said to you?”
“She said, ‘Sorry.’ in a text message.”
“That’s all?”
“Yeah. I’m satisfied with it.”
I was staring at Arima in bewilderment, as I can’t fathom what kind of brain he had to be satisfied with a sorry. From what I’ve seen on him with my talk to Ide-san, that he’s a great guy with a kind heart. Even though he knew the culprit has nothing to do with him nor he’s the culprit, he still distanced himself from her.
“Arima... You’re really satisfied with that?”
“Yeah. She’s naïve and stubborn, who’s practically a child itself. I don’t know what you said, but upon seeing that message of her. I knew she started thinking more of herself now and the surrounding people.”
“Uh... What...?”
“She’s a selfish person, you see... Did you know the last time she said ‘sorry’ to me was 3 years ago?”
“The... What...?”
“Funny, right? That’s how stubborn she is. She won’t accept the blame nor take accountability for her own mistakes.”
“You really knew her too well, huh?”
“Of course. That’s what friends are for.”
“Even though you’ll be the one who will suffer in the end?”
“...”
“Don’t be hard on yourself.”
“Wow... You’re the first person who ever said that to me.”
“Well, I could relate to you in some way.”
“So, about the talk that you two had...”
Arima was giving me a complicated face with mixtures of pain and hesitancy, he’s looking at me uncertainly as he’s pondering whether that my talk with her could affect our friendship. When I saw that, I chuckled.
“Nah, after she said to me about how untrusting of a person you are. She then tells me the reason. I’m pretty sure you knew about it.”
“Oh...”
“My respect for you was on another level after that talk with your childhood friend.”
“Eh?”
The puzzled face that Arima was giving me, it’s quite funny. Betraying his own expectation with my answer, I don’t what he’s so pessimistic about himself. Ide-san and Arima—both of you are the same. Arima has these thoughts in his head where his view of other people towards him is all negative, but in truth—there are none. I don’t know where he got this idea from. However, from what I’ve seen none of the people were looking at him with hostility nor any type of emotions towards him, or even straight looking at him. Because they are most directly at me, I’ve become sensitive to people looking at me because of my own condition, which heightened my senses of people that are staring at me. Pretty weird, right?
I remember the day where it’s my first time going by myself. The day I won’t ever forget in the entirety of my life, where I wore a black hoodie, sunglasses, and mask, which made me stood out more. That time was one of the worse experiences that I’ve ever felt going out. People are looking at me from all directions. The uneasiness that I’ve felt at that time, I will never forget.
Now, with Arima’s puzzling face looking at me, I spoke, “You took the blame of Ide-san because you knew her attitude, that she can’t cope with her helplessness for losing her best friend that’s why you took it so she wouldn’t feel bad or least alleviate some of it. That’s what I admire for you.”
“I... How the...”
“Did I guess it, correct?”
“I mean... Yeah...”
Arima’s eyes widen along with his mouth, he’s looking at me with amazement. As for me, I’m screaming inwardly with joy. ‘Yeah! Hell yeah! I hope Arima is saying the truth.’, these are my thoughts. That’s what I deducted from seeing the two of them.
“I don’t know how you figure that out. But, it’s true. Aoi is the type of person, who can’t deal with stress. That’s why I distanced myself so that she would think I’m guilty, even though the culprit is out there free. I took the blame.”
“Huh? You knew about it? Ide-san said that the police didn’t disclose any information about it.”

“Yeah, because they only said it to me. It’s a confidential case since Miyuki’s parents don’t want the public to know that their daughter has gone through that. But, it’s all in vain since after a few days it became widely known to other neighbors even in our school.”
“Ah yeah, the letter thing about you. Then why doesn’t she know it?”
“I told you at the start, she’s stubborn. No matter what you say to her, she’ll be doing what she wants. Imagine if we told her that the real culprit was still roaming around, not identified?”
“Don’t tell me she’ll find that guy and intervene with the police?” I let out a chuckle.
“Well, to be honest. I don’t know. Maybe? But, it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
“Oh, shit...”
“That’s why Miyuki’s parents only said to me about that since I’m the last person who’s with her, so they asked me if I saw that man wandering around when we’re cruising around the shopping center.”
“Then, what about Ide-san talking to her, Miyata-san?”
“Her parents didn’t let her talk to her. The doctor who’s treating her extremely prohibited Ide-san to talk to her or even staying near her. That’s why they didn’t allow her to do so.”
Ah, fuck...
“Why is that?”
“It’s what the doctor said to them. I forgot the phase she’s in, but it’s one of those critical phases where the patient is in an extremely irrational state.”
“Impact state?”
“Ah yeah. That one. My god, you really know a lot of things, huh?”
“Yep.”
Of course, I know it. I’m still in between the recovery and reconstructing phase. I’ve been there, that’s why I know it. Plus, I’m studying it under the mentorship of my own doctor who’s treating me as well as teaching me.
“Being smart always has its perks, huh? Anyway, yeah, that’s what the doctors told them. Leave her be for a few days until she can cope with it slowly. Aoi is still coming to their house every day. Especially with her stubbornness, she won’t stop until she’s able to talk to her. However, one day, they just vanished without leaving a message to her or us. From that day on, I lost contact with them.”
Oh, fuck... I think I need to apologize to her. God damn, I feel dumb now. My irrationality got ahead of me and started blurting stuff out of my mouth without considering what actually happened. I just hope Ide-san would accept my forgiveness or it won’t leave my conscience, the guilt.
“Ahh, I see...”
“Well, that’s all. Let’s talk about other things. It’s ruining our morning.”
“I supposed.”
Arima grinned after saying the last part of his sentence, then a relief expression showed on his face. We’re able to talk these personal things out because like yesterday, there are no students that are staying at the back of the last room. But, we still made sure to talk in lower audible voices to take precautions. Arima is a great friend to Ide-san, though I don’t know why his relationship with Nagasawa became sour. I’m not planning to ask him, as I think it would invade his privacy. I don’t want to invade further more than our topic earlier. We need to create boundaries or lines whenever discussing with one another, to create a more civilized discussion or conversation.
After talking things out, Yokota, who stopped reading her book, turned her head towards us.
“Okita and Ikeda, do you guys have a club that you planned to join?”
“Actually, Naoki and I haven’t decided yet. We’re about to look at the Occult club, later with Yuki.”
“Perhaps, I really like to join the club with Yokota. But, it will depend on Tatsu.”
“You’re joining where Okita will join? Regardless, what kind of club that is?”
“Yep. As long, Tatsu is in there. I told it many times.”
“Yeah, I remember that. Which means, Hatsumi is the same? You two will join whatever club that Okita will take fancy on?”
“Yep, we’ll be joining where Tatsu will join.”
“A package deal. Hahahaha”
“...”
Yokota was looking at Naoki with a stupefied face, as for Naoki—indifferent... Nothing... Her response to Yokota was totally normal, nothing abnormal of the norm. Then the one whom I talked with earlier was laughing his ass off while holding his stomach. And then me, I knew Naoki will reply to Yokota in that manner. To be honest, I see nothing wrong with it. Childhood friends just wanted to bond together in a school club altogether. Knowing Yuki and Naoki, they probably have no interest in sports clubs or any other clubs in general. Whom am I talking, even I myself. I don’t have any club that I like in particular because it’s a mandatory thing I’m forced to join.
Afterward, we started talking more about normal topics or even some stupid ones. During our conversation, Nagasawa and his gang entered the classroom. Ide-san was with them, of course. However, she’s looking more quiet than usual like she got more of this unusual seriousness aura around her. If I guess, I would think that she’s thinking about the things I’ve said to her earlier, but I don’t know which one. Seeing her, I had this urge to apologize to her in this instance. But, I chose to postpone it for another time where I can find free time to talk to her.
As for the Hara-san and Nagasawa, they went straight to their seats. They didn’t take a glance at me to which is surprising to me. Whenever they see me around, they would always look at me with animosity—Mostly, only Nagasawa. Hara-san was the sister of the Rie-chan the best friend of the cute little angel Asuka. I clearly remember Hara-senpai which is the older sister whose height or body stature is comparable to an elementary student, who said to me that Hara-san the gyaru was her step-sister. They really don’t have any resemblance at all, as in none.
After a few minutes, the bell rang. Arita-sensei entered the classroom with her dark blue suit, adding a sexy oozing aura around her—matureness. She then put her binder on the podium at the front of the classroom.
“Good morning class.”
"""Good morning, Sensei."""
“I’ll be starting the first homeroom of the year. And, the class representative picking.”
