I got into the black car with Naoki and Yuki together, as for my elder sister she’s alone because she’ll be heading straight into her own school. While we’re in the car, Naoki suggested a game for 4 people on her smartphone to which we played all together.
During our ride, we didn’t talk too much about serious stuff as we savor our time together making jokes and playing, we’re just having fun. For a long time, I haven’t gotten someone who can do this with me that’s why when this happened; it gave me a refreshing feeling.
Earlier, I did say ‘Love you.’ to Yuki, and I meant it. Those words were my inner, uttermost honest feelings. After saying that, a feeling inside me lifted. Though, I don’t know why I didn’t feel embarrassed when I said it. I wonder why...
After waking up to that dream, my entire body became more relaxed, or should I say at ease? Or maybe at peace? I can’t find a word to describe it. But the happiness that is dwelling inside me was immeasurable, as I’m finally able to remember her. For all these years... I don’t know what she’s doing right now. I hope she’s okay...
The black car that we’re currently riding on stopped. Then the bodyguards opened it, so we all went out of it and went inside of the school campus, walking alongside other students who are obviously going to class like us. I was expecting Arima or Yokota but they didn’t.
Naoki and Yuki were able to control themselves more now than in the last few days I’ve been with them. However, their closeness with me is still there. I just ignored it since I think people view us as childhood friends with a really close relationship with each other.
Something new was happening to me as I walk alongside the two. No more glaring! Not really, there were some. But not like the past few days! I was celebrating inside of my head. The uncomfortable gazes from them are finally nowhere to be seen! I can finally live in peace.
However, with the animosity towards me disappeared, there’s something more disturbing when they look at me. Admiration? Respect? From the male side, they’re respectably looking at me? While on the female side, they’re looking at me with admiration.
What the hell is going on here?! This is more creepy than yesterday!! What did I do yesterday?! I’m sure I did nothing that would change their minds... What is it because of my face? I remember I did something absurd yesterday after waking up, which made Naoki panic. After that, my classmates started acting weird.
As I was thinking all of these thoughts in my head, I was holding my chin. Naoki and Yuki noticed me in deep thoughts, so in response, they asked me questions. Naoki spoke first, then Yuki followed.
“What are you thinking? You’ve been holding your chin ever since earlier.”
“Yeah, what are you doing? Are you thinking about what happened earlier? Stop thinking about that, you’re overthinking things again.”
“No. People around us are looking at me weirdly.”
Naoki and Yuki scanned our surroundings and saw the number of people, that are currently staring at me. Naoki made a confused face, trying to figure out what’s happening. As for Yuki, she started giggling.
“What are you talking about? Isn’t that a normal occasion that is happening to you these past few days?”
“Fufu~ You don’t get it Nao. Look at the girls, they’re looking at both of us with envy and jealousy. When they saw Tatsu’s actual face they started envying us more. Fufu~”
Naoki suddenly gets it from what Yuki explained to her. She then smiled and made a triumphant expression alongside Yuki. The two have the same face indicating how proud they are. The two looked like they were looking down on them. However, that’s not what I’m trying to say...
“That’s no—... You know what, just forget it.”
I gave up trying. The best course of action is to ignore those gazes and do what I normally do on a daily basis. I’ve got more things to worry about. I wish it won’t escalate into more troublesome problems for me.
Finally, reaching our destination. I changed my shoes to my slippers, then I went to where we always meet up before going to class. After waiting for a while, we’re now heading to our classroom. Yuki went ahead as her classroom is much further than ours, so Naoki and I entered our classroom.
Upon entering, I saw Yokota reading a literature book on her desk. As for Arima; I don’t know where he is, he’s not on his desk. Then I checked whether that Nagasawa or Ide-san were staying in the classroom, but they were not, nor any in their group. When we entered, the same gazes from earlier greeted me. I and Naoki sat down on our desk. After sitting down, I leaned back in my chair and checked some messages from my phone.
3 messages pop up.
First, it was from my mother. She’s just asking me how I am, if I’m taking care of myself or how things going on with my sister living with Aunt. Then at the last part of her message, she said she can’t wait to live with us again after it’s done with the processing stuff. I replied normally, ‘I’m fine. And, Neesan is doing fine, she’s getting along with Auntie. Take care.’
Second, it’s from Izumi-sensei. I’m staring at it, expecting something grand. The message says, ‘Create a detailed report of your condition then submit it to me this Saturday. From how you feel or see, if there is progress or changes in your condition. Write any abnormality that had happened to you from last week until we meet.’
So basically, homework? Color me surprised. I treat Izumi-sensei as a mentor as she teaches me various stuff in her special field which is psychology or studying a human’s brain. She’s a great mentor, treating me like a true mentee even though I’m her patient. I replied to her text with ‘Yes.’.
For the last message, Zeno... It’s from Zeno. My eyes widen upon seeing her name pop up in my message inbox. I immediately opened the message, then started reading it. ‘I’m sorry, Xeco. What should I call you btw? Xeco or Okita Tatsuya? I’m really sorry about what happened. If you think I ignored you because of it, that’s not it. I’m just too embarrassed. Who can’t believe that we will meet! Real sorry. ???? And, thank you for deleting it. You have my huge thanks. I’ll treat you next time, and maybe get to know each other better.’
Embarrassed? That’s an unfamiliar word for me coming from her. I giggled while reading this message to her, and at the same time, I felt some relief. I replied in response, ‘No worries. You really didn’t expect it to happen. What are the chances that we meet that anyway? 1 in a million? Regardless, I’m glad that you replied. I thought you ignored me for real. And, for the treat, I’ll be glad to accept it just tell me when.’
After sending that message to her, 4 of my girl classmates flocked beside me. I became confused while looking at them.
“How may I help you?”
I don’t why they here, but something was more disturbing from my right. A cold atmosphere surge from my right side to where Naoki was currently sitting. Taking a glance, I saw Naoki gazing at them. However, the girls didn’t mind her and were looking at me expectantly. Then the girl in front of me asked a question.
“Why do you cover your face?”

It was the girl with long black hair swept to the side, and her face was full of makeup that is mismatched with her actual skin tone. Her hands were on top of my desk while standing up and looking at me.
“Uhh, my eyes are sensitive to light. That’s why I cover it.”
“Eh? Can’t you just use sunglasses with it?”
The girl beside her asked me. She had a bob-cut hairstyle with some blonde strips attached to it. All of them are wearing makeup—gyarus.
“That’s too much of a hassle. I found this much more comfortable.”
“Eh—hh?! What a waste~”
That’s what they all said at the same. It took me back to how they are perfectly in sync. Maybe this is what Arima was saying to me yesterday. Then, I saw some of my classmates looking at me with the same eyes as them—Looking at me with an interest in their eyes. I hate getting this attention.
“Hey, can you show us your face?”
“Eh?”
However, before I could even reject her. I could hear a loud bang coming from my right side. It was Naoki standing up, glaring at the four girls. When they saw how angry she is, they all shut their mouths and went back to their sits, terrified.
Even I am terrified of Naoki, I’ve never seen her angry like this. I guess the saying about the people you least expected to be angry is one of the scariest of them all. But because of that, Naoki was able to save me from all the hassle that I need to go through. I smiled in her direction. When she saw my smile, she sat down and gave me a stiff smile. I shivered.
‘Reject them outrightly. Don’t entertain them. Okay?’, that’s the message that I could convey with her smile and eyes. Geez, I thought Nee-san and Yuki were the only ones who are crazy overprotective, but she’s the same too.
Because of the attitude that Naoki gave to them, the atmosphere in the classroom became more awkward in silence. Amidst the awkward silence, Arima entered the classroom with a plastered smile sticking out on his face. After sitting down, I immediately asked him a question to ease my curiosity.
“Why are you smiling early in the morning? Did something happen to you?”
“Eh? Ah, nothing.”
“Don’t ‘nothing’ me. That smile of yours is the first genuine emotion I’ve seen ever since we’ve met.”
Arima flinched. Then he hesitatingly looked at me with a confused face saying ‘What are you saying?’. I grinned while looking at him like a detective catching his first culprit.
“Come on. I’m not stupid. Remember? I’m smart.”
“T-That’s not the point... How could you tell...?”
“That’ll be my little secret.”
I then continued, “So? What is it? What is it about your childhood friend?”
He flinched once again, and now was looking at me in bewilderment.
“Are you secretly a mind reader, or you can see the future? An Esper?!”
“Hell no. I’m just guessing.”
“What an accurate guess. Haaa... Are you sure? You’re really not an Esper? I swear I will tell no one.”
“No. What the hell? Why are so adamant about this Esper thing? Can’t I just guess like a normal person?”
“Duh. That’s not a guess of a normal person. You’re reading me like a book. You really sure?”
“No, no, and no. My answer will be the same. As for your childhood friend, I’ve talked to her earlier while taking a walk in the park.”
Arima’s eyes widen. He then fell into deep thoughts while staring at me with a serious face. Maybe trying to connect the dots of what happened to his childhood friend. I have no clue what she said to him that will make his mood go ten times greater. The only thing I could say was, love is a complicated matter. He even sacrificed himself...
