After 5 minutes, which to Elyssia felt like hours, the pain subsided, and she could feel a warmth throughout her body.

“How are you feeling, do you have any lingering pain?” Hecate asked with concern evident on her face.

“I am feeling better now, the pain has subsided. Is this warmth I feel mana?” Elyssia asked, opening her eyes.

“It is. Normally people take a while to feel the mana in their body, but since yours was sealed the change was obvious to you.” Hecate replied, crossing her arms with a pleased look on her face.

“For now, we will focus on slowly adapting your body to the mana that is now flowing. Anything more and we will risk damaging your mana pathway which will cause problems for you in the future.”

“So how much mana do I have? Was that sudden burst after the chains broke my mana?”

Waving her hand, Hecate created the both of them a table and chairs from stone and sat down.

“Let me explain. That burst was the excess mana that had built up in your soul. The chains that had sealed your mana blocked the connection between your body and soul, using the mana you naturally generate to sustain them.”

“When they were put in place, they were designed to not take 100% of your regenerating mana in the case that your regeneration fluctuates which may have caused the chains to drain the mana that sustains your soul. That burst was the excess mana that had built up exploding out once the seal was broken.”

“That makes sense.” Elyssia nodded in understanding.

“Now as for how much mana you have, that’s where things become complicated. Since you have only just had your mana unsealed, it will begin to grow quite quickly until it stabilises. That will take a week, at which point we can measure you. As for how much you would have compared to others… well that’s difficult to say as the standard changes depending on what world you look at, however there is a universal average.”

After explaining, Hecate goes on to teach Elyssia how to slowly begin moving her mana around her body to strengthen her pathway, so it does not break.

** Hecate POV**

After spending the day moving mana through her body and talking about the basics of magic, Hecate and Elyssia return to the mansion and retire for the evening.

Sitting in her armchair, Hecate brought out the book she was reading and enjoyed her time relaxing while keeping an eye on Elyssia who had now fallen asleep.

As the hours ticked by, the quiet atmosphere with only the crackling of the fire was broken.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?” Hecate questioned with a grin, not looking up from her book.

“I came to check in on Elyssia and bring her something she left behind. It seems she was brought here before she had a chance to open it.” A man replied, wearing a Greek tunic and sandals with blonde hair and golden blue eyes. He sounded quite dejected, walking into the room, and sitting on the sofa across from Hecate.

“Oh? You gifted her something?” Hecate asked looking up with an eyebrow raised.

Chuckling, the man responded.

“Haha, yes, I did. I wanted to make sure she had something to defend herself at all times in case something unexpected happened, but it seems that my concerns only partly came true with her arriving here early. I hope you can help her with the gift when she opens it.”

“Yes, I assume that a certain ‘someone’ found out and decided to be spiteful by speeding things up?” Hecate responded, with a flash of anger appearing on her face.

Leaning back with his arms extended to both sides on the back of the sofa the man sighed.

“Yes, he did. Thankfully that’s all he did but who can say what he will do in the future. Be careful and keep an eye on her.”

“Of course, I will. She is such a nice girl; I am already doing everything I can for her. I will also ask Hades to help prevent any external interference just in case.”

“That’s a good idea. Anyway, I will leave this for you to pass on, I won’t linger any longer. Teach her well enchantress!”. Getting up the man responds, flashing Hecate a cheeky grin.

Huffing in indignation, Hecate retorts.

“I am still an innocent maiden, now off with you!”

Sighing in exasperation, Hecate returns her attention to her book.

The next week seemed to Fly past for Elyssia as Hecate taught her about the basics of fields of magic that she could study without having to actively use her mana. She started to learn the different types of magic and the various runic languages used in magic circles.

As a beginner in magic, Hecate was incredibly impressed with Elyssia’s speed of learning and progress. After giving Elyssia a book to read through on the second day of training, Hecate realised that Elyssia learned much faster by reading. Hecate decided to change their lessons from her explaining everything to Elyssia reading and asking questions.

During this time, Elyssia began to trust Hecate more, seeing the attention Hecate put into making sure Elyssia fully understood everything she was taught.

Sat at the table in the middle of the Colosseum Elyssia and Hecate and Elyssia took a short break from training to enjoy some tea while talking.

“Elyssia, I received this present to return to you. You should open it.” Hecate changed the topic, placing a small box wrapped in red and gold paper on the table.

Opening her eyes wide, Elyssia sat there staring at the box in shock, realising the box in front of her was the one gifted by Herwin that she had left in her draw at home.

“How did you get this? I left this at home?” Elyssia exclaimed.

“Someone was able to bring this to me and said this would be useful in helping you to protect yourself. I was told I could help you with it, but I am not sure what it is.”

Pausing, Elyssia thought to herself. ‘I should ask about going back. But if there was a way Hecate would have likely told me. I guess I will have to find the way back myself.’

Deciding to figure that out later, Elyssia curiously asked.

“You don’t know what it is? Can you not use magic to check?”

“Sadly, I cannot, the box is made from a material that blocks mana. It is also rude to look at gifts that are for other people.” Hecate replied with a smile, pushing the box towards Elyssia.

Giggling at Hecate, Elyssia picks up the box and looks at it.

“I guess then that Herwin is not a normal person. It would explain why he could sneak up on me all the time even when my senses always pick up on that kind of thing.” Elyssia commented, deep in thought.

Unwrapping the paper, Elyssia looked at the red velvet box. It looked like a normal jewellery box, plain with no logo which surprised Elysia as she was expecting something quite grand if it could block a goddess from looking inside. Undoing the catch, Elyssia opened the box to reveal a bracelet.

The bracelet was a simple gold chain with a small western longsword dangling from it. Looking closer, Elyssia could make out a few details of the sword, the pummel and the cross guard were all designed into the shape of wings, while the handle was wrapped in black leather. With their heads next to the cross guard, the 2 snakes intertwined halfway down the centre of the blade somewhat representing a caduceus.

Surprised by the gift, Hecate leaned forward to get a better look and spoke up.

“That is quite the precious gift. It is a bracelet that, when filled with mana, will expand into a larger version of the sword. Imagine it like an easy to carry sword that you can draw with a bit of mana.”

Excited by the gift, Elyssia looks up at Hecate and asks.

“Do I just will my mana to flow into the bracelet then?”

Leaning back in her chair, Hecate slowly answers.

“Yes, but first you will need to bind it to yourself. This is done by dropping a bit of your blood on the it”

“That’s quite…” Elyssia began to say, not quite sure what to think while furrowing her brows.

“Here, use this”. Hecate speaks up, passing Elyssia a small needle to pick her finger with.

Accepting the needle, Elyssia carefully used the needle to draw some blood from her index finger which she drops on the little metal sword.

The bracelet begins to subtly glow as Elyssia could feel a slight tug on her mana in the direction of the bracelet. Suddenly the bracelet appears on Elyssia’s left wrist with the blade dangling freely.

Surprised by the sudden appearance of the bracelet on her wrist, Elyssia smiles excitedly.

“You should try flowing some of your mana into it. Your pathway has almost recovered now so you will be fine.”

Excitedly standing up, Elyssia takes a few steps away. Holding her left hand up with an open palm, she lets a little bit of her mana flow into the bracelet, willing the sword to grow to its full size.

Suddenly, the sword instantly grows to its full size, dropping from the bracelet and impaling itself into the stone floor below.

With her hand still extended out, Elyssia looks down at the sword with a complicated expression on her face with a slight blush on her cheeks.

Hecate tried to supress a giggle behind her hand, causing Elyssia to exclaim.

“It’s a magical object, I expected it to appear in my hand, alright!”
