The guards encircling them with spears slowly backed off and left from doors around the Colosseum. Before closing the doors, every last guard threw a little red bag. For sure, it wasn’t money in it by the thud it made.

“The rules are simple. When I count to three, the games will begin. Those standing in the end, with a red bag, get the chance of freedom. 1.2.3”

Iokal counted very quickly when some slaves immediately charged at the bags.

**Clank, clink, clank...**

The sound of mechanical wheels moving made it sound like gates of hell were opening—and they were.

Beside the doors where the guards left from, were big round gates made of metal. They only just managed to rise a little before they were forced into the ceiling by scaled Danger Beasts, with each having two vertical horns on top of their heads. They stormed out and took the easy meal before them.

Before the front running slaves could turn around, the wyverns had already munched down on them.

While they were still alive screaming in their mouths, some unlucky wyverns had not been lucky enough to get an easy meal, so they began trying to steal from each other. An unfortunate man's body was pulled into two like nothing by the forceful pull. Only a few innards kept the two parts connected for a moment.

The slaves quickly gathered in the center again when they realized the wyverns had collars on which were linked with a chain. It made them unable to reach where they were standing.

Haco had never left his position.

‘I’m just clever enough to let the others treat the ice first. I’m not a coward. I’m not.'

He tried to convince himself he was not scared. Behind the facade, Haco had a mental injury. A dent, he refuses to acknowledge. Being unable to use his Secret Art left him very indecisive.

Now, the game had already come to a stalemate, when everyone just stood in the middle without doing anything.

“This is it? You disappointed me quicker than I initially thought you would…”

Remarked Esdeath, which sent a terrifying shiver up Iokal’s spine. So he quickly yelled: “If a bag isn’t picked up in 10 minutes, the chains will be disconnected!”

The slaves who had previously seen each other as enemies began getting together. Making plans, dividing roles.

Because of his destitute nature, Haco didn’t join them. He was still trying to mentally comfort himself, though it came to a stop when all eyes landed on him.

“What’re you looking at?”

Those were not kind eyes. He got no answer, but their actions spoke for themselves. The slaves slowly moved closer to Haco. In response, Haco unconsciously stepped two steps back.

**Roar!!**

But the roar and chains being yanked, reminded him, of the bad situation he was in.

‘Cowards!-‘

Cat caught Haco’s tongue. It felt like he was calling himself one.

‘-When have I become so… Wishy-washy? Dying is scarier than being about to.’

**Crack!**

Once again, Haco remembered the sound of skull cracking—similar to a twig being busted.

When Haco had taken one step back too far and was within the distance for a wyvern to reach, he quickly dodged its jaw full of teeth by throwing himself to the ground. Almost as if he had planned it, Haco grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it in the face of another wyvern coming from the side. It had seen the opportunity for an easy meal.

Not done, with his arms and legs, Haco hugged the first wyvern’s neck. It fiercely tried to throw him off, but he continued to hold on to dear life.

It was only until the wyvern that was blinded by dirt, had steadied, that Haco had to slide around the neck to get cover from its bite once more.

Unluckily for the mounted wyvern, it got some hefty teeth marks where Haco evaded from.

But it all worked in Haco’s favor. With its stance being disrupted, Haco grabbed the chain connected to the collar and tugged with explosive strength. So much that the wyvern tumbled on its back and hurt a wing.

Using the momentum, Haco jumped over to a red bag.

When he had picked it up. Two angry wyverns stood behind him, having corned him. Or maybe Haco had cornered himself.

Left with no other choice, Haco darted into a gate when he suddenly saw a savior.

From how the gates were designed, they had a little space on each side to make them more durable.

Dodging again with a jump roll, Haco darted into that narrow space.

Naturally, the two wyverns followed their prey. They bumped into each other, racing to be the first to feast on the helpless one.

Haco could see everything in its wide-open jaws. Especially that long pink tongue took his attention.

**Tic!**

Haco ticked when he realized he had already closed his eyes, helplessly waiting for the outcome.

A thunderclap resonated the colosseum while vibrations followed. Every spectator around felt it, and in turn, stopped cheering for the wyverns.

They intently watched how the wyverns kept whacking their horns into the side of the gate. They began pushing each other when they had failed to dig the slave out.

As a last resort, they tried using their long, slimy tongues to lick him out.

Inside the space, Haco didn’t enjoy the treatment at all. It stank and his upper body and face were covered in slime. It didn’t taste good either. With his rough breathing, he couldn’t keep his mouth close for long, so it inevitably got into his mouth.

‘… I actually survived…’

But it wasn’t a big deal. He grasped the little red bag he had picked up, hard, with relief.

In the highest and grandest box, Iokal was left speechless by the performance of the slave he'd personally bought. Not in a good way, because he never realized there’d be such good hiding places.

‘Dammit! Dammit! This will ruin everything if other slaves manage to hide there too.’

Iokal was very nervous right now. He’s failing to entertain the way he’d heard Esdeath liked it: Giving hope when there's in reality none.

To his surprise, Esdeath was paying better attention. It looked like she was hoping for something to happen, but Iokal couldn’t read the woman, so focused his attention on the slaves— still standing in the center—wide-eyed.

“Move! Move! Or will order the wyverns’ chains being disconnected right now!”
