It was like Iokal feared. The slaves rushed out and copied was Haco did. Though many also failed to do so.

There was also the problem of being more slaves than places to hide. So some slaves used; first come, first served. Where the more twisted used each other as bait to distract the wyverns.

The result was, that more slaves that could be counted on hand, grabbed a bag and survived.

The momentary stop of cheering had turned into booing. No one was happy—except the slaves— with the result as the wyverns were being pulled back into the gates.

While the mood was good among the slaves, Haco positioned himself farther back when Iokal came down, following the blue-haired woman like a dog. Afraid of the consequences of his failure.

“Now for your reward. You were promised a chance at freedom. If you can so much as graze my uniform, you’ll get it.”

Esdeath had fully taken over the show as Iokal hadn’t thought anyone would survive the wyverns.

Haco felt the chills when he noticed her tender lips arc up a little. Not out of appreciation. Although, he didn’t know her identity, like the other slaves, his instinct kept screaming in tribulation.

That’s why he adopted to once again, let the others treat the ice.

And...

It backfired enormously.

She was toying with them.

Although scared, Haco still felt he had a chance to get out of here alive before. Now felt it was impossible.

Esdeath let the slaves attack first and only narrowly dodged them. The slaves' hope ignited. Only the observing Haco found her movements too coordinated.

It all became clear when she locked one’s arm and began breaking his fingers, one by one.

When they were all broken, she forced inside the man’s mouth while he was screaming, before hitting his jaw.

The man shrieked in agony.

Esdeath didn’t kill him. Instead, she let the man go, so he would continue his beautiful cries.

They injected a tremendous amount of despair into the slaves. Even the spectators felt freaked out, and somewhat sorry for the slaves.

In the background, Iokal was shaking in his boots while trying to stand as far away as possible.

Soon, only Haco was left without having experienced any sadistic treatment, yet.

“I’m pathetic—“

“—Truly so. You look similar to that trash over there.” Esdeath interrupted Haco and pointed at Iokal, whose legs were trembling. If Esdeath approached, he would pee his pants immediately. The man who’d used his relative’s name to kidnap and dominantly rape young women was nowhere to be seen.

“Do I really look that pathetic?”

Haco questioned and took a good look, comparing his own trembling with Iokal’s.

“What do you think?”

He needn’t answer. Instead, Haco stuffed a trump in his mouth and bit down, hard. It was a desperate attempt to clean his act up.

‘If I have to die, I would rather die after having given it everything!’

“Oh, I like your eyes. I will enjoy breaking you,” commented Esdeath.

“Give it your best shot!” With a war cry to increase his spirit, Haco attacked.

Throwing an easy punch to dodge, though the real attack was the back kick following.

Esdeath just blocked it with her naked flour-white hand. One after another she easily blocked the kicks coming without having taken a step. She turned and met Haco with a kick of her own. Her long leg crossed with Haco’s short one.

The round ended with the short one being flung aside. Haco did a rolling fall to lessen the pressure on his aching leg.

“Are you even human?”

Spat Haco with disbelief and reflected.

‘Can a human have such physique without using our Secret Art?’

“How is it losing at what you excel at?” Asked Esdeath as a psychological attack.

“Piss off!!”

It infuriated him. Although he’s unable to power up with the Secret Art, He’d never have thought his physique would lose to anyone—especially a normal human.

Unknowingly, other than feeling fear and infuriation, Haco felt hunger. Hunger to feed his pride. It began scaling the weight.

At Esdeath's hip, she drew the rapier she had been sheathing. It had an unusually long and wide blade.

She began dialing up her bloodlust to shake her opponent. But to her great surprise, the opponent was a little tougher than she initially had evaluated. ‘I’ll enjoy this a little more. It’s not like he’s anything special anyway.’

The fight continued…

If it could be called that.

Haco had continued with different relentless kicks while being extra careful of the rapier. But it was hopeless.

Esdeath snaked it into Haco’s flesh every time he’d attacked. Now, his body was with superficial wounds. Still, the blood loss did begin to make him sluggish.

Before he could react, Esdeath ax-kicked him on the scalp.

**Crack!**

Haco wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, or if his head had been cracked open again.

On the ground, he laid, shivering pathetically.

Esdeath stepped on the back of his head and spat: “Touching my uniform, to begin with, was impossible for you, a shivering weak ant, destined to be stepped on—” she stopped talking when she felt her foot being pushed back. Still, she just scuffed and kicked harder with her high heel.

**Crack!**

This time it was not imagination. Esdeath heard it. The crowd too. The heel even buried itself—like a spear—into the back of Haco’s head a bit.

He fell back down, face-fist, into the arena’s hard ground. After twitching a little, he stopped.

The spectators cringed at the sorry death, but it was an exciting spectacle, so they stood up and cheered loudly.

“Esdeath.”

“Esdeath.”

“Esdeath...”

She wasn’t vainglorious, so she particularly bathe in the applause.

As she was about to lift her foot to leave, the man’s head she was stepping on, burst into blue flames. It kept burning and quickly intensified. If she hadn’t pulled away in time, she mused it would have enveloped the foot and continued up her leg.

Esdeath gave her boot a quick glance. The result was: nothing. No red blood, black blood, or signs of burn marks. More importantly, ‘it’s only lukewarm?’

She’d never experienced this before. Still, as experienced as she was, it did nothing to dent Esdeath’s gallant attitude. Keenly, she watched the blue flames do their work.
