Chapter 14: OUTSIDER

[Location: Hidden base]

The Uchiha girl brought Evans to their secret base, a few km from the battleground. On their way, a new questline popped up before Evans' eyes that was directly linked to Stage 1 main quest.

*Part 1: You have successfully contacted the Uchiha Clan's spy. Gain her trust.*

'Gain her trust. Well, that's gonna be a bit difficult. But it's related to the main quest. I have to try,' Evans wondered after seeing the progression of his quest.

He knew it would be difficult to gain her trust after their little battle when they were at his mercy. He wasn't ready to abandon the quest. He knows that wherever there is a quest, there is a reward, and who knows, he might get something good or something trash.

'His rinnegan looks weird... It's green and has eight tomoe which look like sharingan. Is it really rinnegan? And what's with that other eye of his?' The Uchiha girl wondered, remembering the rainbow glow of the Tear Stigma.

The healer was healing the injured at the campsite. Evans and the Uchiha girl were sitting face to face inside a tent. After a couple of minutes of awkward silence, Evans finally decided to break the ice well, at least his stomach did.

"Ah! I am starving," That's the first thing Evans spoke after a grumbling sound emerged from his stomach, "Hehe! I mean, why don't we talk over some food?" He said awkwardly. He thought it would be easy since he knew the future events, but it was his first time talking to a girl around his age, and his mind just blanked out. He was lost for words.

'Damn. Never thought it would be this difficult to talk to a beautiful girl. What the heck am I even saying?' He thought.

The Uchiha girl stood up, "Yes, we got some dried fruits and rations." She walked over to the bag at the corner of the tent and took out some dried food, 'So far, so good. He doesn't seem angry. I just have to delay him here till the reinforcement arrives. Should I...' She thought of putting drugs into Evans' food, but then a thought struck her mind, and she shivered.

'Wait!!! He is calm and didn't kill us even though he knows I sent a message to Lord third. There is no way he didn't notice the summon with his Rinnegan. If I am not wrong, he is testing me. Don't tell me he figured out my real identity... If so, then... Did Lord third send him to take care of us in silence? I have to find out and warn the clan,' She took a pack of dried fruits and slowly walked over to Evans.

"Please, sit," Evans took the pack and pointed his hand toward the place the girl was sitting, "I am Fredrick Evans... Everyone calls me Evans since my name is kinda big... What's your name?" He inquired as he opened the pack and started to eat.

"Kara Uchiha," She replied while keeping her composure. Her main mission right now is to find out the objective of the man sitting before her.

'He looks just around my age, yet he is this powerful. I can't even sense any killing intent or chakra from him. Did he reach the level where he can hide his intents and chakra from others? On top of that, he is full of openings... It's like he is screaming and telling me to attack him. Damn, he might be more dangerous than that scheming bastard Danzo,' Kara thought with a serious expression.

She was a spy, working directly under the Uchiha clan's leader. Her job was to keep an eye on Danzo and the third Hokage's movements and find out the truth behind the disappearance of the dead Uchiha Ninjas' bodies from the battlefield.

"Kara, that's a nice name," Evans said while chewing on some dried raisins and almonds, "Well, Kara, I have a very simple question, and I hope you will answer me correctly, how long will it take to go to the Hidden Leaf Village from our current location?" He inquired.

He wanted to go to the Hidden Leaf Village fast because his quest timer was already pinging, and he got less than five days to plan out some countermeasure to stop the Nine-Tails rampage without altering history. To do that, he must speak with the third Hokage in secret.

'What?! He wants to go to the village. That means he is an outer, which means my secret is safe. However, I can't risk bringing a dangerous man like him to the village and risk everyone's life. God knows what more power he is hiding under his sleeves. I need to find out his intentions,' Kara wondered.

She is a battle-hardened Ninja who has witnessed countless death and fought during the war. She knows that the man before her is strong and dangerous. So, she couldn't let Evans gain access to the village without knowing his real goals. Moreover, the Hidden Leaf Village is not ready to fight another battle after the great war. She might just doom the entire village by bringing him there.

'Is he keeping us alive to gain access to the village?' Kara wondered.

Evans noticed Kara's grim expression and understood that a loyal Ninja like her won't take the risk of bringing a stranger of unknown origins to the village without proper reason and evidence, 'Ah! This is a pain in the ass. I could force her, but that won't do any good for my quest.'

"Haaa. I understand your concern, and even if I tell you my reason, you won't believe me. So, the only thing I can say to you is The Nine-Tails Fox is about to appear in the Hidden Leaf in less than five days," said Evans with a serious expression as he closed the food pack and placed it on the table before him.

"That's impossible because..." Before Kara could finish her sentence, Evans cut in the middle.

"Kushina Uzumaki is pregnant, right? And as you know, the seal holding the fox becomes weak during childbirth. And someone is about to take advantage of that to unleash that fox. I could have killed everyone here or forced one of them to give me the village's location, but since I am an outsider, I will let you decide your village's fate," Evans stood up, "I will be waiting outside... And you don't have much time to think." He went out.
