Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Training with Oberyn

(Lancel POV)

 

When Princess Rhaenys and I got off the ship, we met Oberyn in the harbor.

 

Oberyn "You took a long time to arrive" he tells me taking the Princess in a hug and lifting her on his shoulders

 

Lancel "Yes, many events happened during the trip" I said approaching him I said "We have a lot to talk about"

 

Oberyn "In the castle" he says walking towards the fortress and I follow his footsteps

 

Arriving at the castle, the Princess asks Oberyn to let her see her mother Elia, Oberyn is speechless for a while not knowing what to say.

 

Lancel "Tell her the truth" I tell him, because the more time he spends assimilating reality, the more he will accept what is happening in his life

Lancel "Train me for a year" I say as I think about going to Dragonstone to leave a permanent mark on Daenerys Targaryen.

 

Oberyn "Why only one year?" he asks me surprised

 

Lancel "I promised to return to my house for a year, and the words that a Dayne promises he fulfills" I tell him surprising him by naming my last name

 

Oberyn "Did Lord Dayne recognize you?!" he says looking at me

 

Lancel "Yes, but the truth is that it doesn't matter what last name I have, I only have one family since I was born" I tell him, telling him about my family that raised me since I was little.

Oberyn "Let's start" says as he goes on the attack

 

Seeing this happen, Lancel sweeps the tip of his spear at Oberyn's feet, who jumps into the air avoiding being knocked down while attacking with certainty towards Lancel's head. Seeing the speed of the blow, he can only block with the handle of the spear and retreat 5 steps due to the force exerted by Oberyn.

 

Oberyn "First miss, attack at a point that is easier to hit" says pointing to his stomach

 

Launch "Let's go" while launching the surprise attack

 

Oberyn dodges the thrust by passing to his right, hitting her in the side with the point of the wooden spear.

Lancel "Master, give me softer blows" he says between gasps from the pain

 

Oberyn "I don't think so, you must experience pain to grow stronger" says laughing at his apprentice in an exaggerated way

 

Lancel "I failed this time" he says looking at the bruise on his left foot

 

Oberyn "You only need to react faster with your body, you have seen all my movements, you only lack speed" he says analyzing his attacks and Lancel seeing each movement, but unable to react to his speed

 

(Lancel POV)

 

Lancel "System, what about my fighting instinct?" I ask about my inability to react

 

System "The Host needs to grow for this power to develop to its maximum capacity" says the voice

 

Lancel "Then why did I defend myself so well when I fought Amory?" I ask him intrigued

 

System "Because the Host has experience in close combat" says the voice

 

Lancel 'No wonder I don't feel comfortable fighting Oberyn'

 

Lancel "How do I improve my fighting instinct faster?" I ask the system

 

System "The Host has already experienced how to develop powers faster" says the voice

 

Lancel 'After his answer I keep thinking, until I come to the conclusion that it is through pain in combat (O_O)'

 

Oberyn "Hey, you've been distracted for a while. What's up?" he tells me worried

 

Lancel "I had a vision where I beat you until I was tired Master" I tell him imitating his sadistic smile

 

Oberyn "Then I have to take advantage of the moment when you are weakest, so that the beating is worth it" he says attacking me with a sadistic smile

 

Tonight I slept with bruises and bumps on my body, thinking that I have to make the lie I told Oberyn come true.
