Chapter 12, Gorgon-alien-mission, Start.
Tokyo, Takashi's penthouse.
As Kato, unaware of the impending nightmare that would befall on Reika joined her in the kitchen, he started to talk to her about her goals there. Seeing Reika fidgeting figure, Kato was fast to understand that she had a problem. But, as he tried to inquire about it, the young idol denied that anything was happening.
Reika then started to look through the cupboard, the fridge and the freezer, trying to find something she could prepare fast for everyone. Reika decided to go with a yakinikudon. (She knew Takashi liked beef and shrimp, but she didn’t have time for the later).
Reika was lucky as she was able to put her last preparations on the dressed table just as the group came up from their training. Meeting Takashi’s gaze, she blushed furiously as he understood what she tried to do for him. But while Reika was hiding her conflicted emotions about the present girls, Takashi, obvious of her mood, took her to the side with a smile to talk a moment, while the group seated itself and Kurono looked furiously for his bag that he left on the table.
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, so I can’t visit my boyfriend who’s living with some weird people he told me were only going to stay for a time, including two women, of which one is currently in love with him?” she said frowning her eyebrows.
“I never said you couldn’t come and you’re the only one in love with me.” Alas for him, Reika was looking behind him and while it wasn’t Sei’s purpose, the way she looked over Takashi, with a “I know something you won’t ever learn about” look, sent the wrong message, aggravating her mood.
“What were you all doing downstairs? You said you were training with Kaze and Sei at first. Now it’s Kurono, Kishimoto and would probably have included Kato if his brother hasn’t been here.”
“It’s complicated. Look, I know I haven’t told you anything about it yet, but I’m begging you, please trust me.”
“Faith in people is based on trust. Trust as to be earned, Taka-kun. I already told you everything you could know about me. Why are you still keeping secrets?”
Both of them tried to keep their voices low, but the silence in the kitchen was heavy enough for the whole group to ear them. Kaze and Kato were indifferent, Ayumu was munching, focused on his food. Sei kept her gaze on the table now, so did Kishimoto. Only Kurono was looking up to Reika, his jealous gaze switching from her to his crush. He was still trying to formulate a plan to use the situation and convince Kishimoto to join him at his apartment, when Reika reached her decision.
“I’m going home.”
“Reika-chan, please...” Takashi started, only to be interrupted.
“Takashi-kun, the only thing I want to ear now, is the truth about everything. Unless you feel ready to talk to me, don’t bother reaching to me again.”
Takashi was stunned by the sudden outcome he didn’t see coming.

As Reika rushed out of the apartment, he could only stay there, cursing his bad luck. He would have love nothing much than to rush after Reika, explaining everything. Gantz silence-kill-switch didn’t affect him. But he didn’t have time right now. The mission start was less than an hour away and trying to explain everything, and prove it, would take much more than that.
“Eat your fill, but don’t indulge to much. We must be ready in fifty.” He kept his back turned on them, ignoring Kurono's smug face. the latter earning a head-slap from Sei.
Takashi then went to his computer room, to check again on every detail for the coming mission. He couldn’t afford to be careless. The Osaka's gantz team was known for it’s craziness, their crass, their ruthlessness, and for their total lack of concern for their members’ or the civilians’ lives.
I won’t think or say this kind of phrases out loud. I won’t raise death-flags.
Takashi went through everything until his alarm-clock went off. He then put his light gantz suit on, ready to wear the heavy-one. Advancing on the middle of the tiles, he stopped, letting the mechanical arms, reach from the ground and attach each part of his gantz-upgraded-suit on.
Elsewhere in the penthouse, every member was wearing their suits, of which some had differences from the others.
Kaze’s had longer arms, but not as much as Takashi’s one. Their punching and gripping power above the norm.
Kato held a gantz sword in his hand, a second on his hip and a third, bigger on his back.
Kishimoto and Kurono were the one with the less modifications as they didn’t have a specialty yet.
Sei’s had a rifle on her back. It didn’t include a sword but the arms, elbows, knees and feet could grow blades for the punches and kicks.
Takashi would have preferred to have one of them be a heavy combat unit to boost the team, but none of them were ready or willing to put the big suit on.
“Ready?” he ask, checking everyone condition or last minute question.
“Three, two, one, teleportation start”.
Meanwhile, back at Reika’s apartment, the young idol was under a blanket, holding the huge plushy Takashi gave her. She had cried her eyes out for the last half hour, praying for the young man to knock on her door, or to phone her at least. She didn’t want to storm out of his apartment like that. Well, she did want to do it, but she also wanted him to stop her from going. If things had gone along her plan, Takashi would have stopped her before she reached the door. He would have hugged her, apologized and they would have had diner with the rest of the group. Reika didn’t understand her boyfriend. She could see he loved her, but why did he keep so many secrets? The training? The group around him? The weird meetings between them? The silence when she called or earlier, when she try to pry the truth? Why did Sei long for him? Why did Kurono hate him so much?
Reika tried to reach for her phone, only for her body to freeze. What was happening to her? She couldn’t move at all from her position. Her body made so seat still above her mattress. Then her vision went from her comfy room, to a foreign street outside, with people going and coming. Fear and panic gripped her throat, preventing her to shoot for help. None of the passerby seem to notice something strange about the appearing girl, or her lack of proper clothing. She was in her pajamas, wearing slippers and still none raised the alarm. None tried to talk to her, or pointed her out. She saw a weird group of people some distance away from her. Some holding weapons, others having longer deformed arms. Holding on of her hands in front of her mouth, as she feared letting the smallest scream. She went behind an advertisement panel. She didn’t see the group go explore some parts of the town. Her entire focus on the nightmare she saw coming toward her. Only her hand on her mouth prevented her from getting it’s attention drawn to her, for her ultimate demise.
