Chapter 15: New students

Seth reached his classroom and found four girls waiting inside. One was his student, Leora, while the other three were the girls he targeted his lecture at.

Smiling toward the new students in his class, he asked: “What are you girls doing here?”

Rebecca, the same girl that came a few days ago to ask some questions about the lecture, was the first one to stand up.

After bowing towards Seth, she said: “Teacher Maya seems to be missing again today, so we decided to listen to your class. We hope we’re not bothering.”

Seth nodded toward her with a smile before fixing his eyes on the other two girls.

“No problem. And these two young ladies are?”

The first one of the fresh faces that stood up was a tall, somewhat tomboy-looking girl. She was very athletic, judging by the size of her chest, maybe too athletic, and there was a defiant feeling about her. Her blonde straight hair was cut short, barely reaching the back of her neck, and she had deep-set, slanted, dark grey eyes, angular eyebrows, and long thin legs sticking out of the bottom of her academy uniform.

“My name is Alexandra Ashley, teacher, but you can call me Alexa. Thank you for your lecture. It helped me a lot.” Even her voice was strong and direct, but Seth knew the reason behind it. She was the little girl of one of the army’s generals and wanted to become an ascended so that she can join her father and brothers in the army.

Unfortunately for her, she was also accepted because of her secondary water affinity, just like he was, and in her past life, she failed to graduate. Her main affinity was also the same as his, destruction.

The next girl to stand up and introduce herself right after was an average-built woman with a stern black pair of eyes, smooth cheeks, thin lips, and small ears. She has thick, wine-colored hair lightly streaked with shades of dark and was carrying a thick book over her above-average chest.

Bowing slightly towards Seth, she didn’t let go of the book she was hugging at her chest and said: “Lisa Oconnor.”

Just asking the system about her affinity right now. He understood what a gem the academy has left to slip between its fingers in the past timeline. He remembered her being an airhead from his past life, but that didn’t even matter in front of her potential.

Triple affinity with perfect main space affinity, secondary darkness, and tertiary water affinity. Two affinities, while quite rare, were not that amazing, at least to him, but having a triple affinity with a perfect space affinity was quite something. Maybe even one in ten million people would have this level of potential. No one could be like him and change his affinities at will.

Seth initially planned on teaching each girl into one affinity, since there was simply too much theory to learn, but now he changed his mind. He was curious. What level would this girl reach?

“Teacher?” exclaimed Leora after Seth just remained staring like an idiot at the poor girl.

Clearing his throat, Seth smiled at the new students and said: “How do you girls feel about moving to my class permanently?”

The sudden question caught all of them by surprise, but Alexa was the first one to reply: “I’m sorry, teacher. We can’t do that.”

Seth didn’t mind her brash decline and lifted one hand to stop her from talking as he continued: “Don’t be so quick to decline. I can guarantee that all three of you will become ascended by the end of the year. Also, ascending is just the beginning, but I’ll leave that for later.”

The girls were, of course, still hesitant about his offer. They made little progress in Maya’s class and she was also quite annoying, but that didn’t mean they were ready to give up and join Seth’s class. They mostly came because his lecture allowed them to make some progress and were curious if he could help them some more, but he was still a young destruction teacher.

Seeing they were still hesitant, Seth turned towards Leora. “How long have you been my student and how long until you will be able to naturally stabilize your source?”

Leora stood up and said: “I’ve been your student for almost five months and I will stabilize my source in the next month for sure.”

Seth ignored the doubtful looks and asked: “How about this, girls? I’ll convince Maya to lend you to me for a month, sort of a trial period. If you are not satisfied with your progress during this month, you can just return to her class and I’ll pay you a vial of mixed energy of over 90% purity each.”

The girls’ eyes shined at the words energy vial and they looked at each other before nodding at the same time.

Alexa seemed to take the role of the leader and as she spoke: “Alright. We agree, but you must first convince Teacher Maya.”

“Great. Let’s go now.” Said Seth and turned to head towards Maya’s class, only to hear Alexa say: “But Teacher Maya is not in class.”

“She had some business with me in the morning. I’m sure she’s back in class by now.”

The girls nodded at his words and followed him toward Maya’s class. After knocking on the door, Seth, followed by the three girls and Leora, walked inside.

Maya was sitting normally behind the desk and reading through a book. When Seth walked in, she remembered what happened this morning and she immediately panicked, thinking he might have found out.

Calming her throbbing heart, she asked: “Seth, why are you here?”

Seth smiled when he noticed how skirmish behavior and moved closer to her before saying: “I want to borrow these three students of yours for about a month. They said they would agree as long as you do.”

Maya frowned, knowing she would lose some of her pay if some students changed classes, but as she was about to reply, Seth added: “If you agree, I will forget about what you did this morning.”

Maya’s face flared up instantly, to the surprise of the entire class, and she quickly created a cage of ice around her and Seth while giving him a death stare.

“How did you know?” asked Maya. The shame she felt when she did it in the morning was nothing compared to what she was feeling now that she knew somehow Seth found out.

“I was there. How would I not know? You wanted to drag me into bed with you. I must say, that was not very appropriate.” Of course, Seth noticed the flood of energies coming from his room and checked the place out, only to find Maya masturbating on his bed, but he felt that teasing her like this was better than letting her know he found out.

Maya, seeing the smirk on his face and hearing his words, was not sure anymore if he knew and was messing with her or if he actually didn’t. Being at a loss for words, she closed her eyes and hit her head against the desk in a defeated manner.

“Do what you want, but they will remain on the record as attending my class.”

Seth smiled, already having gotten what he wanted, before saying: “And what if after this month they don’t want to return here?”

“You can have them…” replied Maya in the same defeated tone. She felt like she couldn’t win against this rascal, no matter what.

Feeling sort of bad for her, Seth came closer and whispered to her: “Thank you, Maya.”, before planting a small kiss on the top of her head.

Maya quickly lifted her head and glared at Seth, only to catch him looking at her with a simple smile on his lips. “I mean it, Maya. That helps a lot.”

Hearing the sincerity in his voice, she blushed again, and her heart started pounding hard. Closing her eyes for a moment to calm her feelings, she opened them once she calmed down and nodded toward him.

Snapping her fingers, the ice cage surrounding them disappeared and Maya told the three girls with a serious expression: “Alright girls, you can go listen to Seth’s lectures for one month, but you won’t change your records yet. One month later, you can decide if you want to return or remain in Seth’s class.”

The three girls nodded, surprised at Maya’s serious expression, and thanked her as well.

“We’re going back. Thanks, Maya. I’ll take care of what I promised you later today.” Said Seth as he started taking the girls back.

On the way back to their class, Lisa couldn’t hold in her curiosity and asked: “Teacher, what did teacher Maya do this morning?”

Seth chuckled and said: “She fell on the stairs and it was sort of awkward, you know, considering the outfit she always wears.”

“That’s weird. She once fell in class as well, but didn’t seem to care that much.” Muttered Lisa, causing Seth to sigh in resignation. Maya’s image in the student’s eyes was simply too low.

After they arrived in class, Seth took a seat behind his desk and asked: “Do you know what my energy is?”

The girls nodded, gossip having already reached through the students about the new destruction energy teacher.

“Good. Then let me tell you something. When the academy took you in, besides Rebecca, whose main affinity is indeed water, they admitted you based on your secondary affinities which are not that strong. That, combined with the fact that their knowledge of energy is still not perfect, made progress extremely difficult for you.”

Alexa and Lisa looked at each other before Lisa asked: “Teacher, are you saying we have other affinities?”

“Yes.” Seth then looked at Alexa and said: “Your main affinity is the same as mine, destruction. After a few lessons, you will for sure find it a lot easier to create a destruction source than a water one, but you can also continue with your water source, ascending with two elements, just like your headmistress.”

Alexa nodded, understanding the logic behind his words. Then, turning his eyes towards Lisa, Seth was stumped about where to start with this girl. Seeing her looking towards him with interest, Seth sighed and said to the rest of the class: “Today we won’t be doing any lessons. Tomorrow morning I’m going to prepare some books for you to read since giving a lecture to people with different affinities wouldn’t really be efficient. This way, you can read on your own and ask me questions later if there’s anything you don’t understand.”

Seeing everyone nod, Seth continued: “Alexa and Rebecca, you are free for the rest of the day. I’ll see you here tomorrow morning. Lisa, you stay here with Leora. I have something I need to speak with you about.”

Alexa and Rebecca said their goodbyes and walked out of the classroom. Looking at Lisa, who was standing there confused, Seth said: “The situation with you is a little difficult. You have three affinities.”

“Three? But even the headmistress only has two.” Said Lisa, not understanding what that meant and how it was difficult.

“Indeed, she only has two. That’s why your potential is monstrous. I can help you form a source for all three of your energies, but I will need to make sure whatever I teach you will never leave this class and that you will keep your first two sources a secret from everyone else, at least until I allow you to use them.” Seth really wanted to teach her, but he knew her situation was special. Knowledge about destruction was already available in a kingdom not that far north and there were also some obscure kingdoms with knowledge about light and darkness, but for space, time, creation, and chaos, there will be no knowledge about them for a long time.

He trusted Leora, but with Lisa, it was completely different. He would have to teach her actual space theory. Knowledge is power, and he didn’t want that power to fall into anyone else’s hand while he could still control it himself.

Lisa saw Seth’s expression and knew he was serious. She was extremely curious to find out more about her affinities. Putting on an equally serious expression, she asked: “What do I need to do?”

“I want you to let me put a trace of my destruction energy inside your sources. This will be you putting your life on the line. If you ever betray me or reveal anything I teach you in this class, I can kill you with but a single thought. If it seems like too much for you, you can decline and I will simply help you create your water source. That is your choice.”

Lisa fell into deep thought. She didn’t know how this worked, having never heard of anyone putting energy into someone’s sources, but leaving her life completely at someone else’s mercy was difficult.

“Can you at least tell me why is it so important to reveal nothing?”

“Because your main affinity is too powerful, and I don’t want knowledge about it to spread. That’s all I can tell you.”

“Can you let me think about it until tomorrow? I want to consider it carefully.”

“Sure. Take your time and let me know when you make your decision.”

Lisa nodded and also left the room deep in thought. Leora looked at Seth and asked: “What is her affinity?”

“Space, darkness, and water.” Replied Seth, before throwing a mixed-energy vial at her.

“Absorb this and build your source. I have some business to take care of. Once you leave the class, close the door.”

Leora drank the vial and started practicing without saying anything else.

Seth stood up and walked out of the classroom, heading towards the teacher’s dormitory. He wanted to keep his word to Maya.
