Chapter 33: Home

They strolled the village’s paths, with Seth in front and Leora right after. It didn’t take them long until they arrived at a small house at the edge of the village. As he was about to approach, three people came towards him from the neighboring house.

“Why is your business here this late at night?”

Seth smiled and threw ten gold coins towards each of them before saying: “I’m the one who asked your boss to guard them. You did good but are not relieved of your duty. Tell Cain I’ll keep my word when I return to the town.”.

The three men caught the coins with shining eyes and took a careful look at Seth’s face under the moonlight before bowing and going back to the small house they built nearby.

Seth felt his heartbeat increase as he lifted his hand and knocked on the door softly. It was late and his parents were already asleep. Since his father was a heavy sleeper, his mother slowly got up and grabbed a candle holder to go check who it was.

When she opened the door, she was confused for a second, seeing the tall young man under the candlelight, but the realization hit her immediately as she asked with a trembling voice: “Seth?”

Seth nodded as he felt his eyes slowly heating up before he moved and hugged his mother. He was now taller by almost a head than she was. His mother also started crying in Seth’s chest, not expecting her son to grow so tall in but a year.

The two hugged in silence for over two minutes until his mother let go and just noticed Leora waiting politely nearby.

“Seth, this is?” asked his mother, feeling embarrassed at having ignored the pretty girl for so long.

“Let’s talk inside, mother.”

“Oh right. Pardon my manners, miss.” Said Seth’s mother with an awkward bow before moving to the side to let them in. She saw the quality of her clothes and took her for a noble lady.

Seth didn’t bother correcting her yet and just led Leora toward the kitchen.

Once they were in, his mother went to light up the candles when Seth said: “Leora, make some light.”

A small orb of light appeared above Leora’s arm, and the entire room brightened up in an instant. Seth’s mother panicked when she saw this and she quickly moved to kneel before her, only for Seth to catch her before she could.

“Seth, what are you doing? She’s an ascended. Hurry and kneel.” Said his mother with panic in her eyes.

Seth smiled with his eyes red before shaking his head: “Mother, why would an ascended bother to come to your house at night?”

His mother froze, and an idea came to her as her hands that were holding onto Seth started shaking and she asked: “Are you… one as well?”

Seth nodded with a smile before saying: “Yes, mother. Take a seat and let me explain, please. You don’t have to kneel before her or anyone else ever again.”

His mother was still in shock, but she nodded weakly and sat down on a chair that Seth teleported behind her. She was so shocked that she didn’t even notice it.

Seth and Leora also took a seat before Seth said: “How are you, mother? How is father?”

“Good. We’re good.” Replied his mother as her eyes darted between Leora and Seth. “Is she a classmate?”

“Sort of. I’m sorry I took so long to return.”

“No problem. The people from the town started helping our village out with food and other stuff. Our life got a lot better than before. Are you two together? Tell me what happened since you left. How is the capital?”

Seth chuckled at how his mother’s gossipy nature slowly emerged as she calmed down.

“No mother. By the way, I still haven’t introduced you two. Mother, this is Leora. Leora, this is my mother, Hilda.”

Leora bowed her head towards Hilda and said: “Pleased to meet you. Seth loves you two a lot.” She didn’t know if Seth was going to reveal he was a teacher, so she just called him Seth.

Hilda quickly panicked and bowed as well: “No, no. The pleasure is mine. I’m sorry for not welcoming you properly.”

Seth made out a story about how he was quite talented and ascended quickly before getting his class at the academy and how Leora was even his student. Since his parents knew very little about the academy and ascended, she believed everything easily.

Leora stayed silent the entire discussion, she herself knowing the truth. As it started getting late and Seth knew his mother was quite tired, he stood up and said: “Mother, rest for tonight. We’ll speak in the morning. Also, you don’t have to go to work tomorrow.”

Hilda nodded and also accepted the change that happened to Seth by the end of his story. After saying goodnight to Leora and Seth, she went inside her room.

Under the snores of his father, Seth led Leora to his room, and they sat down on the hard bed.

“You haven’t told them the truth…” muttered Leora once they were laying on the bed.

“No. Where could I even start to explain, not to mention they would probably be scared if they found out… they might even think I am a god who’s possessing their child or something like that.” Replied Seth with a sigh.

“Aren’t you?” asked Leora with a raised eyebrow. She was of the same opinion herself.

“Of course not. I mean, not really. I just returned to the past and took control of my body from when I was fifteen. Why would I bother taking care of them if I was just some other god that took control of a body?”

“Makes sense.” Replied Leora, not minding the truth too much.

The two spent the night practicing, and in the morning Seth went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast while asking Leora to remain in his room. Prepare was a strong word since he only pulled out some delicacies from his storage space and lay them on the table.

Once his mother came to the kitchen to prepare breakfast like she usually did, she was stunned to find the table full of food and Seth looking at her from the counter with a smile on his face.

“Where did you get all this food from?” asked his mother with a surprised look.

“Did you forget I’m an ascended? This stuff is easy for me.”, replied Seth, knowing it was the perfect excuse.

His mother just nodded and said: “I’ll go wake up Nash.”

“Don’t tell him I’m back.” Said Seth with a chuckle as she walked out.

His parents both came to the kitchen a while longer and Nash’s mouth almost fell to the ground when he saw the table full of fancy-looking food and his son sitting there.

He turned towards Hilda to ask what was going on when Seth stood up and walked to him. “Father, I have returned.”

Nash stood silent for a while before he broke out in loud laughter. “That’s my son. I knew you will do it.”

*Smack*

Hilda Smacked the back of his neck and said: “What are you laughing like an idiot? What if you wake up the little lady?”

“Lady?”, asked Nash while rubbing the back of his neck in confusion.

“She’s already awake. She’s just training. Let’s sit down and I’ll explain everything over breakfast.”, said Seth with a subtle smile on his face.

The two sat down and started eating while Seth repeated the story he told his mother yesterday. Hilda started eating slowly, but after tasting the delicious food, she joined Nash in wolfing it down.

Nash would also ask questions from time with his mouth full, but he didn’t stop eating for even a second. The way they wolfed down everything kind of reminded Seth of Caitlin.

“So you’re even a teacher at the academy? And that lass is your student?” asked his father while wiping his greasy lips with his hand once the story and food were over.

“Yes. She’s my first student, actually.”

After they gossiped for a while longer, Seth’s face turned serious as he asked: “Father, mother, I know this is quite sudden, but how do you two feel about moving with me to the capital?”

Nash and Hilda were sorts of expecting something similar. Looking at each other, his mother asked: “Are you sure we won’t be a bother? We know nothing about the capital, ascended, or anything of the sort…”

“I’m sure. That’s also why I came here now. I want you both to come to the capital and enjoy an easier life. I have enough money to buy a decently sized house in the capital and you won’t have to work for a day more in your life.”

“What about the journey there? Do you have any guards?” asked his father.

“Sort of. Don’t worry, it will be completely safe.” Replied Seth with a chuckle, finding the question ridiculous.

Seth answered a few more questions about the capital and his parents decided they would follow him. His mother was still slightly reluctant to become a burden for her son, but his father convinced her to agree eventually.

“Leora!” yelled Seth once they had decided.

Leora walked in not long after, wearing a completely white outfit, stunning Nash on the spot.

“Get one carriage here. Tell the girls we’ll be returning soon as well.”

Leora nodded and bowed toward Seth and his parents before rushing toward the town.

“Others?” asked his mother, confused, not having heard Seth mention other people.

“They are the other students in my class and I’ve taken them here for training. You’ll meet them soon. Go and put your affairs in order. We’re leaving as soon as Leora comes back.”

His mother nodded and dragged the still-stunned Nash out. Seth shook his head and returned to his room before checking on his students as well and continuing to practice.

‘Damn, progress is so slow now that I’m in the second shell…’

Over half a year has passed and his primary sources were all at around 20%, with his perception and lust source lagging even further behind. With the rhythm he was progressing at, he wouldn’t find it strange if his students ended up surpassing him.

For the next four days, until Leora returned, his parents said goodbye to their acquaintances in the village, not really having anything they would consider real friends. Most people in the village were like that. The work took too much of their time and they didn’t have the time to spend on useless things like making friends or things like that.

Seth spent the entire time either serving food for his parents, chatting with them, or cultivating.

On the fourth day at dawn, Leora, together with Caitlin, drove a carriage inside the village. Seth took his parents and led them towards the carriage under the envious looks of the entire village. They all dreamt of making it big and moving into the town, not to mention the capital.

Once his parents spent some more time saying their goodbye to everyone, they all boarded the carriage and started heading towards the town.

Seth was consoling his mother in the covered back of the carriage as she was looking towards the slowly disappearing town with tears streaming down her cheeks. His father was a lot more composed, but there was also a trace of sadness in his eyes.

“Goodbye…” whispered Hilda before drawing the curtain to cover the back of the carriage as well.
