The man watched outside the windows of a moving car, the city was lively tonight and understandably so. The leading scientist just discovered a way to regrow limbs, a monumental feat in the realm of science. Many are congratulating and praising the scientist, many are happy for their dads, their friends their families to have the chance to have their limbs back.
‘But to be honest, it doesn’t matter to me.“ The man thought.
Some would think that may be cold but the Man really didn’t care. Though it certainly is amazing and worthy of praise, the lives of others mean nothing to him. He doesn’t care if other people died or are suffering and frankly it was not his business.
The man looked at the passing buildings, a way to distract his mind, and zeroed on one in particular. It was a small house in the middle of the suburbs. The house was not any different to its neighbors but to the Man it was the most important part of his life. It held everything the man has, from his childhood to his present adulthood.
This is where he and his parent’s once lived, this is and will be his home forever. Most importantly it also became the home of his beloved wife. They met in high school and started dating around college. Though the there were some bumps on the road they eventually got married 4 years ago.
Sometimes his friends would come to visit and sleep out for a bit. They would play board games and cards and sometimes even bet money, though much to the chagrin of his wife. Other times his relatives would come to visit for a bit. It really was his own little paradise.
Without the support of his friend and relatives, his wife’s love and his parent’s memories. The Man isn’t sure if he would be even alive to this day. He remembered the time he was gazing at the bottom of a bridge, and how the calm waters looked welcoming.
Truly it was, oh so close. He seared the memory deep in his mind so that he may never forget how one notion, one simple choice could’ve taken away the happiness he found today. He looked backed on the foolish reason for his suicidal thought, his sister. It truly was stupid, his sister saved his life at the cost of her own and there he was, almost wasting her sacrifice.
*Sigh*
He recalled the details of her death, he was young back then. It was a sunny afternoon, her sister came to pick him up from school. The walk was peaceful, his sister held his hand firmly so that he wouldn’t get lost. They took a shortcut that was a small bit near the slums, they have gone through this road numerous times so they assumed today would be no different.
A man suddenly appeared in of them and took out a gun. It was so sudden that he even forgot to breathe. At that time all he felt was the pounding of his chest as he saw the muzzle of a gun pointed directly at him.
The next part was a blur, he heard a loud and terrible sound and the next thing he knew he was at the floor. And the shot that was supposed to kill him was buried deep into his sisters head. He didn’t even get to hear her last words. But the cruelest part was what happened next.

“H-help!! I-I- My sister needs help!!”
The boy who watched his sister die in front of him… screamed and cried. The killer gone from his mind.
“Somebody!… Please…”
But no one came, their doors stayed locked. He eventually called the police with his sister’s own phone. As for the killer, his parents went to the police but the results were poor. They couldn’t identify a suspect. All the Man remembered from the killer, was his sadistic smile and the color of white.
It took a while for the Man to get over his sister’s death and it it was only possible with the support of everybody in his life. But he will never forget how it was the first time he experienced the world’s coldness.
The car soon reached his home and after paying the taxi driver he went out and stepped on his lawn. He reached in his pockets in search for the house keys which he soon found. Just as he was about to insert they on the lock and open the doors to paradise… he looked over his shoulders. It was to ensure no one was behind him.
But his eyes soon caught something more. It was a tower made completely out of gold, it was the tallest structure in the entire city. It was a symbol of grandeur. The Man just hoped it doesn’t fall on his house.
“Though if it does…”
The man reached for his waste and felt the contours of his gun. He would do anything to protect his own happiness, even if it means taking away other’s.
