Tatyana approached the grandmother and softly called her; her demeanor was timid, afraid she could be kicked out again. "Hello?"

The elderly woman opened her wrinkled eyes slowly and looked toward the entrance. She had pure white hair and a gentle feeling around her. She kindly smiled and asked, her voice clearly old yet peaceful. "What can I do for you, beautiful little girl?"

Tatyana took a deep breath and hastily spoke, scared that even the elderly woman would interrupt her. "I come from a medical family, and I'm looking for work as an assistant! Please. hire me!"

The elderly woman looked at Tatyana's face closely for a second, and then she nodded. She turned toward the inside of the house and shouted. "Old mummy! There is a young girl that wants to be your assistant! Get out here and stop lazing around!"

Tatyana was startled at her shout. She didn't expect this elderly woman to be healthy enough to shout that way.

Right after her shout, an aged male voice shouted back from inside the house, "What could a child know!? Tell her to scram!"

Tatyana's red eyes became teary again, and she bit her lip. 'Why does everybody look down on me? Why don't they give me a chance?'

However, the grandma's next shout made those tears dissipate and look on with wonder. "You dare speak like that without looking at her!? If you don't come down in one minute, I'm going to make your old bones crack!"

Tatyana pfft with laughter.

When the grandma saw it, she smiled kindly, "That face suits you better, little beauty. You have such a beautiful face. You should smile more."

Tatyana blushed and nodded. Then, she trailed her words, "Thank you… "

"Grandma Lan."

Tatyana's smile became wider, and she nodded. "Thank you, Grandma Lan!"

The old woman smiled, "Good girl. Tell me what you know about healing while that old man comes from the backyard."

Tatyana was about to speak when an elderly male voice, full of energy, came from the side. "Who are you calling old!? I'm in the prime of my youth!"

Tatyana turned and saw an old man walking slowly toward them with a walking stick. He was bald but had a long white beard. Although he had a walking stick, he walked with a straight back and looked energetic; he even made loud sounds with the support stick.

Grandma Lan gave him a side eye and said, "Open your blind eyes and look at the cute girl that wants to become your assistant! Take her in."

The old man looked at Tatyana and snorted, "So what if she is cute! If she doesn't know any medicine, what use do I have for her? I'm going to throw her out!"

Grandma Lan snorted and stood up straight, surprising Tatyana. Both of them were much more energetic than they appeared to be.

The old woman walked toward him, and Tatyana saw him flinch slightly. "Okay, okay. I will take her in! However, I'm not letting her touch anything if she doesn't know anything!"

Grandma Lan nodded and went toward Tatyana. "Good girl, tell Grandpa Lan what you know about medicine."

Tatyana didn't want to be looked down on by them, so she told them what she could do in detail. Although her skills weren't apt to be the main healer, her assisting skills were top-notch for a place like theirs. The way Tatyana spoke about treating herbs, creating concoctions, or helping gather herbs was extensive and in great detail.

Although Tatyana was young, she has assisted Salia since she was very little. Tatyana wasn't any worse than a professional medical assistant.

Even if the old man looked grumpy, he didn't interrupt as Tatyana spoke about her skills.

After Tatyana stopped her presentation, the old man nodded, "You speak grandly, but the mouth can tell many lies. Prove to me that you can do those things."

Tatyana frowned, "Then, let me aid you in taking care of the next patient."

The old man grumbled, "Like I need any help-"

*Pa!*

A cardboard box shot toward his head, but he used the walking stick to deflect the projectile out of pure instinct. Tatyana blinked and guessed that the reason for his walking stick wasn't a walking problem at all; those moves were too fast for someone elderly!

Grandma Lan ignored her blocked attack and scolded, "Are you so old that you forgot why no one comes here anymore?"

The old man lowered his stick and snorted, "It's because the other clinics are slandering me! How could I make a mistake with my medical recipe? They are just unhappy that I don't want to up my prices to match theirs!"

"I don't care! Just let the little girl help you!"

"You are so unreasonable. Isn't she just a pretty face? Why are you so adamant about this?"

Grandma Lan ignored him and said to Tatyana, "You can call him Grandpa Lan. Do you have a place to stay? If not, stay with us. Living just the two of us is getting lonely."

Tatyana at first wanted to refuse. She thought that living with them would be taking advantage of their hospitality. However, seeing Grandma Lan's sincere eyes, she eventually nodded, "Okay, but I want the most isolated room. Also, I will take the Sect Disciple exam when they arrive in this town; I won't bother you too much."

Grandma Lan smiled, "It doesn't matter. Having some company for two months is enough. You can take the room on the second floor to the right."

Tatyana was confused, 'Two months? Wasn't one month the deadline brother Junjie and sister Shi Ning told me?'

Tatyana brushed it off, 'They should not know exactly when they come since they are not part of the sect.'

Tatyana bowed to the two of them with a smile, "Thank you for accepting me, Grandma Lan, Grandpa Lan!"

Grandma Lan patted her head and nodded with a happy smile, "Good girl. Take this as your house from now on."

Grandpa Lan snorted again and said, "Go clean yourself and then come down. When you finish, we will get to work immediately."

Tatyana walked upstairs toward her room. The house wasn't too big, but it wasn't small. Since it had the living quarters upstairs and the clinic below, the place was somewhat big. Moreover, the house had a wide backyard with some chairs and a table. Looking at it from the second-floor window, Tatyana could imagine both elders resting on the chair peacefully as they gave company to each other.

Tatyana smiled and thought, 'I will also have a peaceful life like this when I get old! With someone to keep me company, a nice house, and maybe children and grandchildren. Hmm, but I don't want to have children so soon. Maybe I will aim for it after I reach the later parts of my life.'

Her room on the second floor wasn't that big. It had a bed to the right, a desk to the left, a wardrobe beside the desk, and a chair below it. Beside the bed was a side table with three drawers and an oil lamp, and the floor and walls were made of light brown wood.

The furniture had a deeper shade of brown, giving the whole room quite a comfy and warm feeling. The bed sheets were white, and there were two windows, one in front of the desk and the other just in front of her when she entered the room.

She placed her bag on the ground, took out the dirty dress, and left it on the floor. Then, she took out a set of underwear and went to the bathroom.

The bathroom was big enough to have a sink, a toilet, and a shower. Tatyana would learn later that there were another two bathrooms. One on the floor below and the other beside the elder's room.

Tatyana eagerly stripped naked, wanting to take a good shower. She stepped inside and turned on the water. When the cold water streams touched her skin, all the accumulated dirt slid downward, slowly revealing her supple skin. Her hands went through her hair as she sighed in pure comfort. 'It has been a while.'

In truth, it hasn't gone by that much, but the experience in the forest was so impactful that it felt more than the actual time that had gone by.

Tatyana didn't want to take too much time and make Grandpa Lan wait, so she washed her hair and body quickly. She spent some time cleaning her privates since hygiene in that area was important.

After fifteen minutes, Tatyana finished her shower. She dried her body and changed into her last set of clean clothes and underwear. She carefully brushed and combed her long black hair.

After the shower, her mangled black hair changed into a beautiful black waterfall. Soft, silky, and with a luster that only pearls could compare. Tatyana looked into the mirror and was surprised, 'Hmm? Do I look better? Maybe it is because I spent too much time in the forest, and I remember it wrongly?'

Brushing off that thought, she smiled and went down, her brown and white dress beautifully moving along with her steps.

The elders were speaking at the entrance, speaking to each other, when they heard footsteps coming from the side.

They turned to look and saw Tatyana walking toward them. The girl before them was very different from before.

She had long black hair as dark as the night sky. Her skin was fair and smooth, and her entire being energetic. She had a smile on her lips as she looked at them, clearly happier than before.

Grandma Lan chuckled and commented, "My, my, you were already pretty, but now you are even more beautiful. I bet many boys run after you, right?"

Tatyana blushed at her compliment and said instinctively, "Yes, but big sis always scares them away… Ah." Tatyana stopped mid-sentence and looked down, losing her lively appearance.

Grandpa Lan walked toward the medical room and said, "Is the ground that interesting? Come, help me prepare the things! You are my assistant, so don't you dare be lazy."

Tatyana looked up and followed after him, forgetting her current sorrow, 'Right, I have to work hard to thank them!'

Grandpa Lan scolded, "Also, I want you to be responsive! Also, I will beat up whoever tries making trouble, and that includes you."

Tatyana's eyes flashed with surprise, but then she smiled widely and shouted, "Yes! I will do my best! Thank you, Grandpa Lan."

He just harrumphed and continued walking away.

Grandma Lan looked at Grandpa Lan's back and smirked, thinking good-naturedly. 'At least you are not so useless, old bones.'

In this way, Tatyana's life with the Lan elders began.

During the morning, she helped Grandpa Lan with the clinic. Then, she helped Grandma Lan cook. In the afternoon, she studied the formation and cultivation books. And in the evening, she cultivated and increased her strength.

Both elders had taken a liking to Tatyana, and they treated her like their own granddaughter. Even Grandpa Lan was increasingly grumpy with those who tried courting Tatyana.

Thanks to Tatyana's appearance, their clinic gained popularity with young men and old people and had more patients coming.

Grandpa Lan was extremely knowledgeable in medicine, so those that came once were extremely satisfied and came another time.

Moreover, having the red-eyed little beauty taking care of them was a big plus, especially for the elderly and young.

Her day was packed and busy, but she was living happily. Tatyana finally had peaceful days after that fateful day.

However, how much time would this peace last?
