Helios listened to Dimmane’s instruction and looked upward. He stumbled at what he discovered, large scrawling demonic diagrams decorated the entire ceiling of the wide room. The symbols looked similar to Sigils but lacked their eerie caricature of life.

Gulp, are those Sigils?”

“In a sense, you can say that. They’re copies of completed Sigils. Former Imperator demons, or what we would call demon kings. Although they’re dead, their true names still hold meaning but no longer belong to them. The array will harness them in a convoluted way to create the desired effect. What does this one do, Dimmane?”

Heh, I thought you were a master of arrays, Tuktuk,” Dimmane teased with a mischievous glint in her eye.

“Don’t be condescending, Dimmane. You know that Tuktuk is merely a novice in arrays at best. He was only shown how to neutralise the elemental stones. Tuktuk doesn’t know what those symbols mean,” Tuktuk growled, unholstering his belted hammer in a mock display of aggression.

“But how could I ever dare to dream that Tuktuk wasn’t the greatest in all of his endeavours?” Dimmane breathed.

Dimmane braced her arms against two birthing pools and lowered her head to Tuktuk’s level. She playfully licked her lips as he gave her a smirk. He put his hammer away and they both readjusted to pretend that the moment didn’t happen.

“Can’t you both restrain yourselves and tell me what’s going on?” Helios interrupted.

“We’re about to go for a ride. At Dimmane’s expense, of course. Something as intricate as the array above us can only be used as a portal. Is Tuktuk correct?” Tuktuk guessed after Dimmane refused to tell him.

“You’re right. See, I knew you understood it, Tuktuk,” Dimmane said, unable to restrain herself from getting in one last dig.

“How does it work?” Helios asked.

“I’m not the one to install this and couldn’t explain it. It’s easier to show you. Prepare yourself for a bumpy ride,” Dimmane replied, raising her hand toward the ceiling.

Four Peon Ethos emerged from her palm and flew in opposite directions to each corner of the demonic array. Light flooded toward the centre, illuminating the arcane lines and Sigils. An eerie luminescence filled the room, causing the developing Demonic Larvae in the containment pools to become agitated.

There’s nothing to indicate that Dimmane used her web to activate the array overhead. In that case, I have to assume it only requires Ethos to be utilised. I can’t imagine a more extravagant use for them than this. I think I get it, an array can allow anybody to harness magic. This will be a very powerful tool to learn.

Helios’ thoughts were interrupted by the centre of the giant arcane array tearing apart the fabric of reality. The Genesis Aqua filling the containment pools started to develop ferrofluid towers stretching upward.

Helios looked at the ceiling as it distorted into a maelstrom of wires, rotating similar to the eye of a hurricane. Flames erupted along the walls of the long tube connecting their room to their destination. Helios frowned upon wondering how he was supposed to enter the portal.

“Alright, time to go,” Nightmare Dimmane said. She unexpectedly reached out with her top pair of hands and picked up Helios. She used a free hand to lift Tuktuk upside down by his crippled legs.

“Hey, unhand me at once!” Tuktuk berated. He flailed helplessly against her grip while she ignored his protests.

With a single beat of Dimmane’s luxurious brown wings, the three rose into the air toward the raging channel above. A few more flaps and they were quickly gaining momentum as they ascended. Helios watched their approach to the vortex’ with heavy trepidation. It looked like one wrong move and they would easily be torn apart.

After Dimmane flew above a certain threshold, they were sucked into the heart of the maelstrom. It was no longer the strength of her wings that carried them onward. Instead, Helios got the strange sensation of space contracting in front of them while also expanding behind them. Allowing them to be transported through the tunnel without actually moving.

This is a surreal feeling, I’ve never experienced anything like it. All it took was the sacrifice of four Peons to power this? Incredible. I need to know more about this.

“Nightmare Dimmane, is this portal connected to only one place or can it send you anywhere?” Helios shouted over the cacophony of noise from the rushing of the wormhole.

“I admire your reasoning. This is a one-way trip. Once the Ethos powering it dries up, the portal will close. I have plenty of time to drop you and Tuktuk at your destination and return before that happens,” Dimmane called down at him held securely in her arms.

“You may as well just allow Tuktuk to plummet to his death. Being carried like this is undignified for a master Nightmare of Tuktuk’s calibre!” Tuktuk complained from where he dangled from Dimmane’s grip. Despite his protests, Tuktuk still clutched at her wrist with all six hands.

“Quit complaining, we’re almost there!” Dimmane retorted, she resumed beating her wings as gravity seemed to change directions as they approached the opening of the churning tunnel.

They were violently propelled from the wormhole toward the solid stone floor of their destination but Dimmane was prepared. With a powerful flap of her wings, she managed to slow their descent enough to absorb the impact, landing in a crouch. She released her hold on Helios and then righted Tuktuk to place him down next to him. She briefly allowed them to take stock of their surroundings before speaking.

They were inside a spacious room sparsely furnished with a pair of grotesque chairs and a single workbench. Light filtered in from a large opening in the wall. Walking over, Helios discovered there was a balcony directly overlooking a Hellish landscape. They were located about halfway up the obsidian walls of Fastidium. Leaning out to see, Titan demons clung to the sides below them. Very few were nearby with numerous balconies visible around them.

“This is…” Tuktuk started to speak but was lost for words as he looked around himself in wonder.
