Tuktuk crawled to the edge of the table and expertly climbed to the top of the bench. He then turned to face Helios expectantly. When he was certain that Helios was paying attention, he began to unpack the bundle. He unwrapped the black-scale hide and shook the other assorted items from it. Dolore teeth and claws tumbled into a heap along with the Malus wood, flasks of Genesis Aqua, and the Unda and Ube elemental stones.

“Most of this is rubbish, perfect to practice with. Unda stone is everywhere surrounding Fastidium. The reason Tuktuk had you get it is because this one is medium-grade which is a lot less common. The Ube stone is low-quality but it’s passable. The Malus wood is also low-grade and more or less useless to ordinary Nightmares. Tuktuk got it because he can’t resist haggling for a bargain with Beebo’s Ethos. Hehe,” Tuktuk chuckled as he recalled how much he overpaid for the items.

“What about the black water?” Helios asked, curiously picking up a flask and giving it a shake. Water audibly sloshed inside the container.

“You mean Genesis Aqua. It’s low-quality too but that’s completely irrelevant, it’s the most important thing here aside from the demonic offering,” Tuktuk informed him, snatching the flask from his hand and frivolously pouring the contents over the demon pelt.

“I heard demonic offering mentioned before, is that these souvenirs from the Dolore demon at the meat cart?” Helios asked, watching his actions intently.

“You catch on quick, that’s what I like to see. Look closely, the Genesis Aqua is a catalyst for change. We all experienced its effects upon our rebirth. Our job as a Nightmare is to harness that and then dive headfirst into the sea of Mortal dreams. Are you ready?” Tuktuk inquired, the Genesis Aqua began to glow orange as it puddled on the black-scale demon skin.

“As ready as I’ll ever be.”

“Before we start, just keep in mind that the dreamer will imbue your item with shape. You will guide them into the object of your desire. What do you want it to be? A tyrannical sword to sunder the heavens. A kite that allows you to fly freely across the sky? A teacup with a myriad of deadly poisons masked by the sweetest of flavours? Get those thoughts out of your head, none of that is possible for you yet. Never let the dreamer distract you from your objective, to create a set of clothing that will adapt to any demon that wears them. The ultimate purpose of a Nightmare tool is something to evolve with you. Do you understand?” Tuktuk gruffly said. Seeing Helios’ look of concentration, he nodded with satisfaction.

“What do I need to do? That sounds pretty straightforward,” Helios replied.

“We’ll see how long that opinion lasts for, ha. Send your web into the Genesis Aqua. You don’t need to order it to do anything, the true meaning of your name may assist you but it’s not actually important. Good, good. The Genesis Aqua is reacting to you. Pick up the pelt and drape it over your shoulders. It will be easier to convince the dreamer of what you want when you’re already wearing it,” Tuktuk instructed.

The lava-like liquid took on ferrofluid properties, forming unnerving structures across the surface. They remained attached as Helios picked up the demon skin and pulled it around his shoulders.

“What’s next?” Helios impatiently asked.

“Calm down, the next part will be tricky for you as only a Dolore. Lucky you have Tuktuk as a teacher, it’s exponentially harder as an Imp. Release control of your web, I have hold of it and will guide us into the Sea of Dreams,” Tuktuk commanded.

Helios felt spindly invisible threads take hold of the tendrils emerging from his Soul Brand. After he surrendered control of it, he felt his consciousness being pulled into the Genesis Aqua. Fumes encased his body and he closed his eyes. Simultaneously, his third eye flew open, staring blankly into space as his gaze lost focus.

Helios’ senses were submerged in darkness. All he could feel was the pull of his web leading him deeper. Shadows moved at the edge of his peripheral as his body was washed away. He became aware that he had entered his Echo form once again. A connection bridging the Genesis Aqua to something more powerful and mysterious became increasingly apparent.

“Where am I?”

“We’re entering the Sea of Dreams, the core of the Mortal realm. This is as far as any demon can cross over into the living world on their own,” Tuktuk’s voice answered with an ethereal quality.

“I can’t see or feel anything around me.”

“That’s because we must cast our webs wide and reel in an appropriate dream. That one should do. Pay attention to what Tuktuk does, this is an important skill to master. One wrong move and you could be lost in the Sea of Dreams forever.”

Tuktuk projected Helios’ web towards a shimmer in the distance. It successfully leashed hold of it. He began expertly tugging it toward them in the darkness. Suddenly, Helios discovered he was standing in the middle of a dream in Echo form. A second ethereal figure was beside him of similar size, only much weaker. Tuktuk looked ready to flutter away with a weak breeze.

“Is this someone’s dream?” Helios asked, looking around the empty dream landscape.

“Correct, the outer edge of it. We’re subject to the dreamer’s rules, they write the story here. Unlike with a regular Echo form, you can be harmed here. Be on guard,” Tuktuk warned and stepped inside, Helios followed suit.

In response to his words, the world shifted. They entered a futuristic city filled with an overcast sky. Polluted rain fell from the dark clouds overhead onto a deserted street. Neon street signs illuminated the scene of an elderly caucasian man dressed in futuristic-styled samurai kamishimo.

The man had cyborg arms holding a sci-fi katana with a radiantly glowing laser-edge. He confronted a group of generic robots, a beautiful young woman shielded behind him. The girl had neon-pink hair with cybernetic skin that shimmered with digital calculations under the surface.
