Helios continued to stare over the edge. A pair of flying Luminare demons got too close to one another. They began to argue in mid-air, making aggressive gestures toward one another. It didn’t take long for it to devolve into outright hostility. They were too far below for Helios to make out any details when they tangled together. One viciously tore the other’s head from its shoulders, causing blood to rain down as watching imps chortled in excitement.

“We’re going down there. Tuktuk advises that you use the stairs unless you suddenly decide to grow wings. Have you?” Tuktuk interrupted Helios watching the scuffle below.

“Have I, what?” Helios replied, looking up at Tuktuk on his shoulder.

“Decided to grow wings,” Tuktuk seriously asked.

“No, I haven’t,” Helios answered with a questioning look.

“A pity,” Tuktuk replied, slumping in disappointment. He perked up and pointed down at the dizzying height below them. “While we’re here, let Tuktuk teach you something important. Stop looking with only your mundane vision. Instead, use what we call demon sight. It will allow you to see that which is hidden to ordinary eyes.”

“How do I do that?” Helios asked in confusion.

“Tuktuk is sure you already know about the demonic aura. It’s the main way demons determine our hierarchy while others specialise in using it to hunt. Demon sight works the same way except use it through your eyes, instead. Try it,” Tuktuk directed.

Following his instructions, Helios shifted his gaze to overlook Fastidium. The world darkened and the haphazard stacks of buildings suddenly became alight with colour. Illusionary shop front signs and images hovered in front of the bleak obsidian structures.

Helios took a stunned step backward, turning to look down the narrow walkway they stood on. All of the neighbouring Nightmare lounges had varying signs being projected from Sigils on the wall beside their door. Only their door remained dormant with the intimidating guardians silently regarding them.

“What the… how did I not notice this before?” Helios asked in shock.

“Hehe. It’s majestic, isn’t it? Tuktuk remembers the first time he used his demon sight. He unfortunately saw through the illusion of a succubus across the street. Tuktuk had been considering purchasing her services up until that point. An inexplicably amused passerby had offered Tuktuk a word of advice. He’s glad that he did, ha!” Tuktuk heartily chuckled, clutching his belly. He wistfully gazed into the distance while reminiscing.

“The holograms are everywhere. Fuck me, I can even see a giant illusory image of Shazz’s ugly face floating above that building over there!” Helios exclaimed, pointing in a direction between two cubed spires.

A steady trail of demons entered and left the front entrance of a dubious-looking square building. An insectoid demon would stop suspicious customers and use long feelers to check them over. Helios didn't know what it was looking for, no one going inside appeared to have any semblance of wealth, completely devoid of clothing. At most, they carried primitive weapons equally as crude as Helios’ previous makeshift dagger and spear.

“Old Shazza’s club, potentially the least reputable brothel in Fastidium. There is always demand for the desires of the flesh. Tuktuk suggests you avoid that place for obvious reasons,” Tuktuk said with a chuckle.

“I’ll take your advice on board,” Helios dryly replied. He continued to survey Fastidium’s horizon. He squinted as he was forced to peer through a crimson fog blanketing the city, obscuring the demonic crowds and buildings. “What’s this thick red smog pervading the air? It’s limiting my vision.”

“One could call it pollution. With so many demons in one place, it’s inevitable that their auras will mingle together. Try to ignore it,” Tuktuk answered.

He noticed an unusual detail about the lanterns throughout the city with his demon sight. Ultraviolet light had replaced the steady warm illumination from before.

The difference between using demon sight to view the city and without it is enormous. The only drawbacks are reduced vision and having to maintain concentration. It could be dangerous if it distracts me. It has its advantages, though. I can see so many more details in the world around me.

Helios stepped away from the edge and started toward the staircase downward, lost in the world of illusory light around him. They encountered a few demons of higher castes that looked at the pair strangely for being in their area but otherwise left them alone.

They descended innumerable floors to reach the crowded street at ground level. Helios stood firmly in the middle of the road, foot traffic parting on both sides around him. Scarcely clothed pedestrians stared at his Nightmare equipment with covetous glares but remembered the rule of Fastidium and restrained themselves from acting upon impulse.

“Hehe, this is where the fun begins. See that group of Dolore covertly watching you from the alley across from us? They don’t belong to this area and are searching for wealthy prey to gang up on. They’ve marked you. Ambitious children, Tuktuk’ll give them that much. Let’s play, start walking,” Tuktuk stated, subtly gesturing toward five Dolore doing their best to remain out unseen in the shadows. Red demonic pollution effectively obscured them from sight. When Helios switched to regular vision, he could see them clearly.

Helios nodded in agreement with Tuktuk’s instruction before merging into the flow of traffic. He got a decent look at the group of Dolore once they emerged from the alley attempting to skirt the outside edge of the crowd. Helios watched their apparent leader from the corner of his eye. A large demon with an imposing stature not much smaller than Krutak.

They’re following,” Helios observed, a slight smirk on his lips.

“They couldn’t resist the bait. None of them shares any common traits so they don’t belong to a Familia. They’re just a bunch of street scum, perfect to test out your new toys,” Tuktuk replied with delight.

Helios' hands trembled with excitement as instinctive bloodlust rose within him at the thrill of the hunt. He licked his lips in anticipation and restrained himself from pouncing on the group immediately.
