Hi everyone!
I just wanted to say a quick Merry Christmas and thank you for your support and understanding while I took a little break from writing. I recently left work to help my wife with her business during the Christmas season and things have been HECTIC. Your kind words and encouragement have meant so much to me, and I am so grateful to have such an amazing community of readers.
I'm hoping to get back to writing now that things have started settling down. So long as I don't have to go on the job hunt now that I'm conveniently self-UNemployed, I should be able to write a lot more often. Sit back, enjoy, and let me know what you think in the comments below!
Love you all ♥
Helios tucked away his weapons and walked over to the demon crawling away from him, pulling out an untested short sword. It was unable to escape him with missing legs and rolled onto its back, now cowering and desperately shielding its arms over its head. The demon's eyes were wide with fear, pleading for mercy as Helios loomed over it, ready to strike.
Helios stared into the demon's eyes and felt a rush of emotions as he saw the fear and hopelessness in its gaze. He revelled in its suffering, enjoying the feeling of power and control over the hapless creature. The world around them was dark and unforgiving, a landscape of danger and violence. The demon knew it was at the mercy of the powerful and merciless being standing before it, and it could only hope for a miracle to stave off its impending demise.
"Please, I beg of you to have mercy on me. I understand that I’ve wronged you, and I am truly sorry for any pain or inconvenience that I may have caused. I beg of you to spare my life…” The demon began to beg for mercy, but its words were abruptly cut off as Helios thrust down with his sword. The demon let out a pained cry as the blade pierced its flesh, and Helios felt a thrill of excitement as he watched the demon's lifeblood spilling out onto the ground.
“Simply exceptional, as always. Finish the rest off before they manage to crawl away. There's six more still twitching...we can’t let them keep suffering, can we?" Tuktuk praised with a cocky grin, surveying the gruesome scene with a sense of satisfaction.
“No, that would be awfully inhospitable of us. They were so welcoming toward me as a newcomer to Fastidium. I feel that it’s only right I return the sentiment,” Helios sarcastically replied with a predatory grin, stalking toward the demon with a determined focus. The demon cowered in fear, clutching its mangled jaw as it slumped against the wall.
Helios' cold and ruthless demeanour as he approached only added to the demon's terror. The demon urgently scrambled to its feet, pressing its back against the wall as he stowed away his bloodied short sword. In its place, he pulled out a vicious-looking barbed short spear from his armoured mantle, no more than a foot long. The wounded demon was unable to speak through the remnants of its ruined face, so instead held its hands up to futilely plead for mercy.
“Any last words?” Helios mockingly asked, licking his lips in anticipation. The demon shied away from the savage gleam in his eye.
The moment Helios saw its eyes dart toward the deserted street at the end of the alley, he was able to predict its intentions. The demon suddenly twisted away from him in an attempt to flee, running straight into the short-spear Helios had swung in anticipation.
Blood spurted into Helios’ eye, causing him to flinch away as the demon’s momentum plunged the spear elbow-deep inside the gaping wreckage of its jaw. The demon collapsed to its knees with arms limply at its side. The corpse began to convulse and toppled backward, making a disgusting suction sound as it slid from his blood-drenched fist.
"Looks like the harvest was messier than Tuktuk thought, but no worries. There's still enough Dolore left for you to test your weapons. Fortune favours us today!" Tuktuk said with a merry grin as he watched Helios wipe the gore from his eye. "And seriously, what's up with your hair? Tuktuk’s hands are starting to feel a little numb from holding on.”
“It has a paralytic mucus. I can’t believe you’ve been oblivious to it up until now,” Helios distractedly replied, crouching down to wipe the blood from his hands on the corpse in front of him.

“Function over fashion. Tuktuk is well-pleased with his choice of student. Very sharp and astute.”
“Enough. What are you buttering me up for?” Helios stopped what he was doing to stare suspiciously at the Imp on his shoulder. Tuktuk grinned and shrugged.
"Just wanted to let you know how impressed Tuktuk is with your skills. You're a natural-born killer, Helios. And with the right training, there's no limit to what you could accomplish. You could be a force to be reckoned with, feared by all those who dare to stand in your way. How does that sound?"
“What is it actually to you, Tuktuk? Why are you so interested in my abilities?” Helios asked, standing up and sceptically looking at Tuktuk. Tuktuk’s grin grew wider.
"Because with potential like yours, Tuktuk's own status and power would rise as well. We could rule this land together, it wouldn’t take much to overthrow Beebo and her cronies. What do you say, Helios? Are you ready to conquer Fastidium?" Tuktuk seriously asked, all pretence gone. Helios considered Tuktuk's offer for a moment before shaking his head.
“I'm a natural at killing, you mean. Ruling Fastidium is merely a stepping stone in my journey. I have greater ambitions than just stopping there, I will conquer all of Hell and return to Earth. Any who dare to step between me and my goals will be crushed underfoot!” Helios resolutely declared, his voice dripping with contempt as he stomped down on the head of the twitching demon in front of him.
There was a sickening wet sound as he shattered the protective skull encasing the delicate brain inside. He bent over and impulsively scooped the damaged organ from the wreckage. He lifted it to his slavering lips and hungrily inhaled the trapped life essence contained within.
"Well, yes, but it's not just that. You're a great strategist too. You always seem to know what your enemies are going to do before they do it," Tuktuk pointed out as he watched Helios feast.
"It's not hard to predict the actions of desperate creatures," Helios replied dismissively.
"True, but still, you have a knack for it. You're going to go far, Helios," Tuktuk said, patting his shoulder.
Helios stood up and looked around at the bodies strewn about the alley. Locating the few survivors attempting to escape. He began walking after the four demons with missing legs dragging themselves in different directions. He paused beside a withered demon curled into the fetal position drawing ragged breaths.
