Jihoon froze as he locked eyes with Minhee, his hand still holding her arm. He could feel the eyes of people crossing the road on them. Even if they were judging him, it didn’t matter. Nothing did. Nothing mattered more than Minhee right now. Minhee, the girl he hadn’t seen for a decade. The girl who one day disappeared without saying goodbye; the girl he thought would be his epic and forever love; the girl who broke his heart, destroyed his soul and ruined his very being.
Just then the signal, indicating it was almost the end of the crossing period, rang throughout the street. Jihoon snapped out of his frozen state and continued to cross the road tugging Minhee along with him, never letting go of her arm. Much to his surprise, she did not resist and followed him quietly across.
Once they had safely crossed, Jihoon walked into a nearby cafe. He was no longer grasping her arm, just a hand on her, but still he wouldn’t let go of her. He couldn’t let go of her.
He found a small table with two chairs in the corner against the window. There were a few other customers in the cafe as there always was in Seoul, but it wasn’t overly crowded or loud. The two of them sat down and continued to stare at each other.
Jihoon realized that she had been quiet this entire time. He, too, hadn’t uttered a single word to her other than her name. Questions and accusations began to swarm his head, but nothing formed in his mouth, nothing spoken out loud. He wondered what she was thinking. Minhee recognized him. This was something he knew for sure. Her eyes could never lie.
One of the cafe staff approached their table. “Will you be purchasing drinks today? Tables are for customers only,” she spoke in a polite manner.
“Y-yes!” Jihoon stammered. He felt abashed for a moment; he didn’t want to come off as a rude customer. “We were just thinking about what to order. I’ll go up to the counter now!”
Jihoon stood up and headed towards the counter near the back of the cafe. He glanced back while waiting for the customer in front of him to finish paying. Minhee was sitting quietly at the table looking outside the window.

While waiting for their drinks to be finished, Jihoon continued to turn his head back nervously every now and then. He was afraid that at any moment she would just stand up and leave. It wouldn’t be the first time after all.
As soon as the drinks were ready, he walked as quickly as he could without looking like a madman. He placed the Iced Americano in front of her and set his Hot Chocolate drink down in front of his seat as he sat down.
Minhee glanced at the table and slightly smirked. At first he wasn’t sure if he had heard properly, but it was her voice. “Childish,” she whispered under her breath, just barely audible, almost like she had meant for only herself to hear.
“What is?” Jihoon asked as he placed a hand on the table and leaned forward towards her.
“Your taste buds,” she said, this time more clearly. “You haven’t changed at all.”
Jihoon froze. Her voice, her tone, it was all the same. It was just as he remembered. At the same time, her voice came out clearer than he had expected. Or was it that his memories of her had started to distort. Or perhaps the memories the two of them shared were beginning to fade, like the withering cherry blossoms in the middle of spring.
“You're wrong,” Jihoon said in a firm voice. “You haven’t seen me in the last ten years. You don’t know just how much I’ve changed.” His eyes locked onto hers. For the first time since their re-encounter, he felt something. He felt anger.
