“For the past three years, I’ve been told such words, and I knew this would happen my entire life as well. I have no intention of having any other woman besides you by my side,” declared Cladis.
Even now, he was thinking, ‘Ella will be the only empress. There will be no concubines.’ He wasn’t going to have her experience the same sadness that his mother had felt. It was that sadness that made everyone suffer. Ella could feel his determination through his eyes.
“How would I be able to sit on the throne if I were to be swayed so easily by mere gossip from my colleagues? Don’t you agree? I never put any thought into those words, not one bit. But then, it just began catching up to me. All of a sudden, I’m going to graduate in eight months. Why?”
“That’s…,” said Ella.
“I didn’t even fall in love with her. I didn’t. I can tell you again and again that I don’t want her even in the slightest.”
He didn’t even hide the fact that he didn’t want to hear himself getting involved with her. This Cladis was quite different from the one who still had some respect for the person he called his first love. Not only that, his behavior was different from when he first returned from the Academy. His eyes, the way he speaks, and his attitude were all different. It was hard to believe that they were the same person. He wasn’t the same person who begged her for another chance last night. Now, he seemed more stable and more strong-willed.
‘He seems to be becoming more similar to Cladis from the novel. Is it just a feeling?’
However, that feeling continued the next day.
Act 10. A Guide to the World That Does Not Flow
The next day, Cladis had returned early to the Academy as Ella had asked. After learning of his departure, Ella went to say goodbye to him as thanks for heeding her request.
“Have a safe trip, Your Highness,” said Ella.
“Yes. I’ll see you when I get back. Oh, and don’t get too close with the Tower Master.”
“Your Highness.”
“I’m joking. I’ll be back soon. So…”

“I’ll be waiting. Will that do?”
“Yeah,” replied Cladis.
“Then go on. You were going to leave sooner for me. Weren’t you?”
She interrupted Cladis, who was trying to drag on with his words, to make him leave. In response, he made a disappointed look on his face, but he soon remembered what he had promised and got onto his favorite horse. Even after he was on his horse, Cladis didn’t immediately leave and instead wasted more time. Then, he turned his horse around and got close to Ella.
‘What dumb joke is he trying to throw now?’
As Ella was about to get ready to end his antics, Cladis swung down, kissed her cheek, and ran away. With the sound of a kiss, his blushing face moved away.
‘He sneaked a kiss again!’
“Your Highness!” shouted Ella in protest.
“Hahaha! I’ll listen to your objections when I return. I’m ready to take on any punishment. Be well, Ella!” Even with her yelling, Cladis made the world’s happiest expression and waved both of his hands.
‘Punishment? What sort of punishment does he think I’ll give him that made him have that kind of expression?’
Ella clenched her fists at him. In the novel, Cladis said something similar to Luciella, only to be punished severely many times. However, that reckless Cladis needed to experience that on his own to learn. As she began to think of punishments that would cause him to regret, Ella made her uniquely dangerous smile. Then she remembered what she had thought of yesterday.
‘Is he really starting to act like Cladis from the book? Even his silliness is the same as his. If so, what was up with him until now?’ That uneasy feeling concerned Ella as she thought, ‘I need to find out why Clara was able to stand by his side without any problems.’
Ella’s instincts whispered to her. Clara’s unique situation made her contemplate over what was going on instead of concluding that it was because Cladis took Bazel’s advice. It felt like there was an answer hidden underneath. She then reminded herself of the report she had read and what Cladis had told her. The hint that seemed close to being unveiled made her feel uneasy. Ella then bit the tender side of her lip.
