Chapter 16 “The Amazing Dawn Part 1”

It’s no wonder the three hunters were heavily defeated by the ghost here tonight. Those blood strings can whip, wrap, and shoot out like bullets at their intended target. Unless one had nimble agility and a flexible body, it’s hard-pressed to fight such a foe. Thankfully, this was not an issue for Shadow who had transformed into her kitty form. With the added dexterity and phantom support from Boink, she’s been able to deal substantial damage thus far.
However, the female ghost was no pushover either. Going crazy and emitting an ear-piercing scream, the thick resentment oozing out of that body manifests physically into the faces of her victims. There’s so much pain and pleading in those cries that it’s hard to ignore. Worst of all, the anger that came with their death grew into a waterfall of blood that swamped over. They want to drown the cat by pure mass.
It’s a good plan because Shadow only got the upper hand thus far thanks to her nimbleness. Without that advantage, she’s no better than the hunters at this point after having her dodging space sealed.
Of course, Dawn wouldn’t just stand idly by and watch his tenant be defeated. But just as he and the onlookers wanted to step forward in support, they suddenly heard a cry from the catling herself.
“Get down!”
Regardless of what Shadow intended to do, Dawn didn’t think twice and immediately got down on the floor along with the two hunters following closely. The next thing they all saw was the catling’s body exploding out countless blades of black light, shredding all of the blood whips in one go like a massive grenade.
Everyone came out of this fine, well, mostly anyway. Hunter Green got unlucky with one of the brick walls slashed by Shadow’s attack falling onto his leg, thus fracturing one of his bones. Dawn on the other hand came inches away from having his head sliced in half, meaning his brain would’ve been gone with it as well if he didn’t duck a second sooner. As for Boink, he’s small to begin with so nothing even came close to the hamster’s body.
Seriously, Dawn was terrified of the ghost, but this kind of indiscriminate attack from the catling made him rethink his choices in life.
After the explosive move, Shadow plopped to the ground deflatedly. She’s emptied her tank and could barely stand anymore. In fact, even breathing was a difficult task in how she was gasping.

As for the female ghost, this ethereal creation was the closest so she took the brunt of this hit. Not only was her killing move dissolved with those black blades, but her entire spiritual body was also so significantly damaged to the point it looked like she would disperse from a slight breeze.
But in the end, she did not…..
For a while, the cat and ghost fell into a stalemate with neither able to get the upper hand. Then suddenly, the female spirit stared over to Dawn’s location with those hollow eyes. Opening her mouth, the thing charged at the human with a banshee-like screech. She doesn’t have a consciousness, but the instincts dictated this spirit to search out human blood to restore her essence.
“Shit!” Shadow saw this twist and wanted to jump in and block it. But unfortunately, her weakened self didn’t permit her to move fast enough to do that.
….
Let’s dial back the time a little from the current event.
When Dawn first fell to the ground after the initial command from Shadow, he had just narrowly evaded the life-threatening blade against his brain. At this point, his hands had grasped onto something on the ground by accident. To be exact, it’s a wooden comb made into a crescent moon shape and about the size of the palm. It’s pretty ordinary with nothing special about it aside from the strange patterns carved onto the surface.
In this courtyard, old clutters are everywhere. Brooms, dustpans, altar jars, junks aren’t unusual because the old owners didn’t think of moving this stuff away when they relocated to the city. However, the so-called inconspicuous nature of the comb didn’t fit into the ordinary image in Boink’s point of view.
When the guy picked up the item, the hamsterling who was closest instantly felt a connection between the comb and the female ghost. Yelling urgently before the ghost manages to make contact: “Break the comb!”
