Chapter 44: The real Beginning

The next day, in the morning, half past seven.

Kouro got up from his bed and took a shower. After showering, eating breakfast (A/N: Bread that he kept in his inventory) and changing into his school uniform, he came out of his room which only took him fifteen minutes to accomplish.

Coming downstairs, he saw Kiana looking at him with a sullen expression while in the middle of the corridor, with her arms crossed.

Seeing Kiana looking at him like that, he knew that he had made a mistake, so he approached her with a sincere expression and apologized.

"Sorry."

Seeing Kouro approached her and apologized afterwards, her annoyance immediately subsided a little yet with her arms still crossed, she asked, "Why are you apologizing?"

"I apologized for going out late at night and leaving you without company."

"Hmph! It's good that you understand." Kiana replied with a cute snort, her anger at Kouro had disappeared.

"Tomorrow is a weekend, so I promise to spend time accompanying you all day until you're satisfied." Kouro said with a sincere expression.

"Promise?" she said while pulling her pinky finger out to Kouro.

Kouro looked at Kiana's little finger and then smiled slightly.

"I promise."

He said and then hooked her pinky finger with Kiana's.

After receiving Kouro's promise, Kiana smiled and said, "I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

"Me too, Kiana. Then, I'll go out first, see you." Kouro replied before running out of the dormitory building.

"Be careful on the road!" Kiana yelled at him. "Hmmm, where should I go later?" she pondered, thinking about her destination with Kouro tomorrow.

Too bad, that promise will be the beginning of a disaster.

Three days ago, Cocolia secretly transferred some of her authority (A/N: The Mecha Titans) to Nagazora City to ensure that, after Raiden Mei awakens as a Herrscher, she can defeat or subdue her and then 'recycle' her.

Even though Cocolia had more power under her command, she can only do this much so as to not attract any attention from the local government and to hide from St. Freya Academy.

Raiden Mei cannot fully transform into a True Herrscher in such a short time so there was no need to overestimate her strength, with the current force Cocolia has gathered, it should be enough to capture her, she only needed to look out for St. Freya's movement and end the operation before their arrival.

And to prevent St. Freya from interfering too much in Nagazora City, Cocolia started to artificially increase the concentration of Houkai Energy in the suburban area of Nagazora, due to the previous small-scale Honkai Eruption, they would be alerted. Cocolia also discovered Raiden Mei during the previous Houkai Eruption.

Everything happened too quickly.

Three days. In just three days, on the day Kouro promised to accompany Kiana.

In the outskirts of Nagazora City, due to the sudden increase in concentration of Houkai Energy, the animals transformed into Honkai Beasts and rampaged on the area.

In Cocolia's original plan, the increase in Houkai Energy concentration would be limited to only withing ten thousand square kilometers of the Suburban area.

From what was originally only 50 HW, it would continuously increase for three days to reach the level of 500 HW, an increase if ten times and the impact had reached the City of Nagazora.

If it weren't for St. Freya Academy, who had installed many high-tech devices to help control the Houkai Energy's concentration before, the whole of Nagazora City would have collapsed due to the increase of Houkai Energy.

However, even after all that, the citizens of Nagazora City didn't have enough time to evacuate because of their population.

Apart from arranging a large number of flights, trains and other means of transportation, the security personnel did not have the time to organize search and rescue teams in the city.

Many citizens have been infected with Houkai Energy and became 'Zombies'.

The Garrison of Nagazora City barely stabilized their defensive line around the city to fight off the Honkai Beast charging from the suburbs and there were no more people in the towns to manage as they have all been killed by the Honkai Beasts and Zombies or turned into 'them'.

In this Houkai Eruption, almost hundreds of thousands of people became 'Zombies' or died before escaping because of their low Honkai energy resistance.

We're talking about a large-scale Houkai Eruption that had already reached 500 HW,and still rising, compared to the millions of permanent residents of Nagazora City, such amount of sacrifice could be considered a small amount.

In the future, this event could be considered as a historical event where humans managed to fight the Houkai Eruption compared to previous eruptions, and it might even be the impetus for humans to fight the Houkai, but now there is only destruction and collapse in the outskirts of the city.

When the rough statistics report about the Houkai Eruption in Nagazora city appeared on her holographic interface and seeing the number of casualties and economical losses in it, Cocolia didn't know what to say.

She only felt helplessness. 

The only times Cocolia had felt this helpless is when she watch one of her children disappear into the Sea of Quanta and watching Bronya lose her legs and her emotions to find her.

She had sworn that she would never hurt children again. 

 

Now, Bronya who has a high Houkai energy adaptation will not die from the concentration of five hundred HW of Houkai energy.

She should be able to protect herself with the Project Bunny 19C. 

The casualties only numbered hundreds of thousands of people who were either old, weak, crippled, or sick. She really has sinned. 

Cocolia smiled with a pale face and gradually clenched her fist.

As long as she want to fight the Houkai, sacrifice is inevitable, compared to the old, weak, crippled and sick, only children safety is enough for her.

Weekend, the day Kouro promised to accompany Kiana.

"Get out of the way! Since you're dead don't get in the way!" 

You could see Kiana, wielding the pair of Artemis' Guardian pistols, shooting at the Zombies in front of her while running with Mei in the streets of Nagazora City and she couldn't help but ask anxiously.

"Where the hell did Kouro go!? Out of all time, why is he unreachable now!? Could it be, he has been infected and had already turned into a 'Zombie'?"

Kiana spoke in her heart too, 'Didn't you also promise to accompany me all day, Kouro?'

Kiana's words made Mei's heart skip a beat with worry, but then remembering how Kouro destroyed the giant Honkai Beast, she calmed down a bit. 

"No, he's very strong. Maybe because the nearby signal tower has been damaged so that's why we can't contact him. Or maybe Honkai Energy can affect signals like electromagnetic waves too. Anyway, let's hurry up and leave this place first."

Mei can see Kiana breathing heavily and quickly. 

In fact, she was also very tired. Kiana has at least a pair of very powerful pistols. But she could only rely on her bamboo sword, she always put out her best with every hit, and she was also feeling a bit tired at the moment.

Hearing Mei's words, even though she was very worried about Kouro, Kiana could only nod her head and start looking for a safer hiding place with Mei.

If she keep looking for him, she might get hurt before they could find Kouro.

Kiana and Mei could deal with the Zombies but they couldn't face a Great Honkai Beast, so it was a better choice for them to hide and rest for now.

The best place to hide should be somewhere high enough, where the cell phone signal in a place like this might be much better, maybe she could contact Kouro. 

 

As for the person they were worried about right now, it wasn't as accidental as they thought it would be.
