Chapter 61: Akimitsu Ayame

'What… happened to… me?... Why… I can't move… my body… at all…'

'Am I… having a bad dream?'

'My body… it's so… hot…'

'Why… am I… Here?'

'Wait… who… am I?'

Ayame thought while in a daze.

Trying to remember her memories, Ayame gradually began to recall.

'That's right… My name is… Ayame… Akimitsu Ayame.'

'I… attended Senba Academy.'

'That day… I went to class… as usual… The first lesson was… Math… but then…. There was a scream outside.'

'The subject teacher… went to check… a girl ran… towards the teacher and… ripped her neck… with her teeth.'

She stared blankly at the mess around the room.

'It's so messy here…'

As Ayame was thinking trivial things, she suddenly raised her head as she felt two very strong presences slowly approaching the building she is in, although it is curious how exactly she could feel them.

Ayame didn't realize that, when the two presences entered her perception, the thorny roots of the vines grew and blocked the entrance of the building, as if to protect Ayame.

She focused her perception on one of the two presences.

'This person…? Why do I feel a familiar feeling from it?'

She could see that the two people were slowly approaching closer to her location, until they are only separated by the door.

*Skrett!*

Ayame heard the sound of the door being forcefully pushed open as she locked her eyes at the door.

The person who pushed the door seem to realize that they knew that she were there and paused their action.

The person then knocked at the door and yelled behind it, "Excuse me, miss! You have a parcel delivery!" 

The person knocked again and continued, "Miss, I will open the door. If you are changing, please tell me immediately."

Ayame became speechless at the person's ridiculous behavior, and she somehow felt very familiar with their actions.

The man then casually opened the door, then walked towards herself, somehow he stopped for a moment when he saw Ayame face as if surprised and said in a deep voice. 

"I really didn't expect that we would meet each other under such circumstances, Ayame."

The man proceeded to lower the mask he was wearing slowly, "Don't you remember me? It's me, Kouro."

Ayame's lifeless eyes stared at the man who identified himself as Kouro before replying, "…Kouro…?" as if trying to recall something.

Suddenly, a memory flashed through her mind… A fragment of memory that she had long forgotten.

An emotion then welled up in her chest.

Hate.

'Ah… I see… This Kouro is… someone I hate…'

Kouro kept his eyes at Ayame, she discovered that Ayame's lifeless eyes slowly regain their light.

He really didn't expect his childhood friend would attend Senba Academy.

Kouro slowly approached Ayame, and after reaching one meter away from Ayame, he spoke with a bit of relief.

"Ayame, do you know I-"

His words were cut short by Ayame who gave him a sweet smile.

"I'm glad that you're here, Kouro."

*Stab!*

A thorny vine suddenly pierced Kouro's chest from behind.

"…What?..."

Then, several vines followed and stated puncturing his torso.

[HP:6,346/10,800] 

[HP:4,756/10,800] 

Notification after notification about his health appeared in front of Kouro's eyes.

*Shik!* Shluk!* *Kishuk!*

Theresa heard the noise from outside as she rushed inside and saw Kouro being turned into shish kebab by the Pseudo-Herrscher.

"KOUROO!"

Theresa grabbed a chain from inside the Oath of Judah and used it to pull Kouro away from Ayame.

Seeing that Kouro is dying(just imagine Kouro's chest is hollow), Theresa spoke angrily, "You are in big trouble young woman!"

*Swosh!* *Swosh!* *Swosh!*

Ayame controlled the thorny vines around her and attacked Theresa, like using a whip.

Theresa used her large Cross as a shield while protecting Kouro who was lying behind her.

'I have to get Kouro away from here before his injuries get worse.' Thinking that, Theresa then used the chain from Oath of Judah to pull Kouro behind her.

While Kouro was being carried around like a sack by Theresa, he was currently focused on the System interface with a serious gaze.

[A Harmful substance has been detected]

[Skill 'Unknown' has been activated}

[Buff: Cure Poison's effect is healing you]

It wasn't this notification that made him look at the System Interface seriously, but rather, it's his level of exhaustion.

[Fatigue: 57] 

Why is the fatigue level increasing so quickly?

Could it be that, neutralizing the poison of a Herrscher requires enormous amounts of energy, and because of that, his fatigue level increased?

Kouro didn't know, but one thing's for sure, he now needed to avoid getting hit by the Herrscher's poison as much as possible.

Theresa, who doesn't know of Kouro's complicated thought right now, is currently thinking about how to get out of this place.

She took a glance at the classroom's interior before looking back at the side of Ayame, there happened to be a big glass window, big enough for her to pass through.

 *Swosh!* *Swosh!*

Ayame's vines continued its flurry of attacks, and instead of parrying it like before, Theresa chose to dodge it.

*Bam!* 

The vines collided with the floor where Theresa has been before she dodged.

Seeing this, Theresa then ran with her little feet to the window and jumped.

*Crash!*

Breaking the glass window, Theresa fell down the ground and immediately ran away.

Ayame didn't chase after them, she just silently started from the window Theresa had broken.

She then muttered, "It doesn't matter even if they got away, the poison I've inflicted into his body will turn him into a Zombie sooner or later."

Ayame then rested her body and began digesting her newfound memories that were continuously appearing.

Thirty minutes later. 

Theresa, who had been running swiftly throughout Nagazora City, finally stopped and looked back to observe Kouro's condition.

"Kouro, how are you feeling?"

Kouro smiled bitterly to Theresa's question and said, "I'm fine already, by the way, can you put me down. It's really hard to move if I'm tied up like this." While wiggling his body that are tied by Oath of Judah's chains.

Theresa heard Kouro's words but didn't let go, instead, she checked Kouro's body and looked at his chest which should have been pierced.

"Wha-!"

Theresa is shocked, Kouro's chest punctured anymore, its as if the wound she had seen before was just an illusion, but she knew that the wound was real, and proof of that is the blood that stained her clothes and his chest.

After confirming that Kouro was not in critical condition anymore, Theresa unfurled the chains and put him down.

Kouro stretched his body a bit before speaking, "Thank you for saving me."

Hearing Kouro's gratitude, Theresa simply replied calmly, "You're welcome. Now, can you tell me the identity of that Pseudo-Herrscher? You seem to know her."

"…Fine, but before that, let's talk about that shy person hiding over there."

Kouro replied before pointing at a building fifty meters away. Theresa followed Kouro's gaze and saw a girl come out of the building.

"…How did you find me?"

The girl had a strange appearance, she has long, pink hair wearing and old-fashioned, white, and red miko outfit, but what stood out the most about her is her long fox ears popping out the top her head.

"…"

Theresa found it strange that Kouro didn't respond, so she turned her head to the side and looked at Kouro's face.

There is an extremely dumbfounded expression on his face.

Theresa blinked her eyes and fell into thought, 'This guy… Did he fall in love with this girl at first sight?'

Kouro is dumbfounded, not because he fell in love at first sight, but because of the  creature hovering beside the girl that had the same appearance as the kitsune (human fox).

'Isn't that Higokumaru?!'
