Chapter 31 - I can definitely do it! I'm a man! (1)

"She's already married and comes back to sleep. People will gossip. The way I see it, since she was wronged over at the Su family's side, let go over there to settle accounts for her. Let the Su family see how strong our Liu family is. They won't dare to bully her again after that." Liu Mei's oldest sister-in-law was good at being persuasive. She looked as if she wholeheartedly wanted to vent anger for Liu Mei.

Old Lady Liu repeatedly nodded. "That's what I was thinking too. I'm just worried other people will speak badly of us if we do that. The Su family only has a few people from the junior generation. If we go there to trouble them, others will say we're bullying the weak."

Liu Mei's oldest sister-in-law replied, "Mom, there's nothing to worry about. You and Dad don't need to appear. Those of us in the same generation as them will go. What can people say about that? Dayong and Daqiang are Little Mei's older brothers. It's only right that they demand justice for her."

Liu Mei was moved by these words. In the past, she thought her older sister-in-law wasn't good. She never had a good face for her.  At this critical time, it was her family that was dependable.

She eagerly looked at her two older brothers.

Liu Dayong and Liu Daqiang looked at each other and nodded.

"Okay, let's go look for that lousy punk tomorrow, how dare he treat our sister this way."

Worried they would beat up Su Dazhi, Liu Mei hastily said, "Don't beat Dazhi too badly. Just scare him. It's my older sister-in-law that's the root of the trouble."

"A girl? What's there to be afraid of?" Liu Dayong didn't take Su Yu seriously at all. He knew about the Su family's oldest daughter who couldn't get married. She was cowardly, and her mind wasn't nimble. When the time came, all they had to do was scare the Su family a bit, and he was sure their whole family would come to pick up his sister.

Old Lady Liu smiled with satisfaction. Although she valued boys over girls, she was proud to see that her daughter had a strong dependable maiden family.

Thinking of how the Su family dared to bully her daughter, she gritted her teeth and said, "Anyways, this time, we have to force Dazhi's older sister to hand her job over to Little Mei. Little Mei is still a temporary worker. There's no guarantee for her future. If she doesn't give up her job, we'll harass them until she does."

"And get them to separate the family and give up their home," Liu Mei said.

Old Lady Liu said, "If they don't agree, Little Mei won't go back!"

Liu Mei's oldest sister-in-law and second sister-in-law's mouths twitched. They were thankful their brothers hadn't married a wife like Liu Mei. That would be horrible.

Liu Mei didn't go home and slept over at the Liu family's home.

Su Dazhi waited until the late evening, but Liu Mei still hadn't returned. He was so absent-minded that he didn't even finish dinner.

Su Xiaozhi split Su Dazhi's share with Su Yu and happily finished eating.

Su Yu tried to not taste the food she was eating. She didn't even chew much. She was used to eating delicious food, and it was hard for her to swallow this food.

After dinner was over, she had the reluctant Su Lin wash the bowls while she went to take a rinse. After coming back, she put down her curtain to sleep.

Seeing that Su Dazhi was still sitting, Su Yu said, "Can you be less pathetic? Believe it or not, Liu Mei is already snoring away. She won't miss you. Only you would foolishly wait for her. Even if you stay up all night, she won't feel bad for you."

An image of Liu Mei lying in bed and snoring appeared in Su Dazhi's mind. He felt that he was a bit foolish for waiting. He took his basin and went for a rinse too, and then he went to bed.

When he laid in bed by himself, he wasn't used to it.

"None of you are sleeping, huh?" Su Yu rolled over and sat up.

"Sis, I'm not asleep," Su Xiaozhi yelled.

Su Yu sighed. "That's fine. Let's talk. Us siblings haven't talked in a long time. After Liu Mei came, it was embarrassing to talk about our family's past matters with her present. I remembered that our family was so poor when our parents died. At that time, Xiaozhi and Little Lin were good kids. When Dazhi and I came back with food, you guys were sitting on small stools and waiting for us at the door. You guys were so well-behaved."

Translator Ramblings: Author is doing a good job making me feel that Liu Mei and her family are outrageously selfish. I wonder what would have happened if the original owner was still around. We know she'll put herself last, but would she do something that will hurt her two younger siblings to benefit Su Dazhi? I assume she loves her younger siblings equally. And, it sounds like Liu Mei's family has tried demanding the original owner's job before, and she didn't give in.
