Chapter 32 - I can definitely do it! I'm a man! (2)

"Sis, I remember. You always brought back shaobing for me," Su Xiaozhi gulped.

"Yeah, at that time, Sis was so happy watching the three of you eat. Actually, I wanted to eat too, but I couldn't bear to eat any. I wanted you guys to eat more. All I wanted was for you guys to grow up well and have a good life." Su Yu's voice was a bit choked up.

"I'll always remember that I was the most scared one when Dazhi fell sick that time. We pushed  Dazhi on the flatbed cart to the hospital in the middle of the night. The snow was falling heavily  then. The snow was at our waist, and the wheels on the flatbed cart wouldn't turn."

Her words jogged Su Dazhi's memory. He had almost completely forgotten about it, but now, he could clearly picture it. "I remember. Sis carried me on her back the rest of the way."

Su Yu smiled, choked with emotion. "You still remember that, huh? Xiaozhi, do you remember that time you had a fever? Sis climbed up a tree to get eggs for you to eat…"

"You fell from the tree." Su Xiaozhi cried.

"Yeah, it hurt so much, but I was more scared about being injured. What will happen to Xiaozhi if I can't take care of him?"

"And Little Lin, when you were little, you went to tease someone's dog. The dog wanted to bite you. I fought that dog to protect you. If someone hadn't come, Sis wouldn't be here anymore."

Su Lin, lying in bed, wiped her tears.

For a while, the Su family reminisced about the past. Their lives had been so hard back then. And in these memories, they couldn't do without Big Sis's contribution.

Su Yu talked about many things in the past, including when their parents were alive and after they were gone. There was sweetness and bitterness. Finally, she faintly sighed, "Seeing that you guys have grown up, Sis is relieved. My only thought is that you guys will be happy in the future. That the person you find to be your partner will treat you well. But even if that person doesn't treat you well, it's okay. As long as I'm alive, I'll protect you! No one can bully you!"

"Sis…"

"Big Sis…"

"Whah…"

Su Yu smiled in the dark, sobbed twice, and then quietly closed her eyes and went to sleep. So sleepy. It was too tiring to tell stories in the middle of the night!

---

The next day, without Su Yu's ordering, Su Lin had already got up and made breakfast, but she didn't talk to anyone. She was obviously still out-of-sorts with them.

The way Su Dazhi and Su Xiaozhi looked at Su Yu were also different; there was a bit of fond attachment and guilt in their gaze.

They spent all last night dreaming about how well their Big Sis treated them. When they encountered something bad, Big Sis would run out to protect them.

Su Xiaozhi said, "Sis, I dreamed of you last night. I was fighting with someone. You ran out to help me and got beat up. I was so scared."

Su Yu froze in surprise for a moment. Soon after, she smiled. "Oh you kid, you still know that Sis treats you well."

What one thinks about during the day is what one dreams about come night. They had heard stories right before bed. It couldn't be more normal for those stories to influence their dreams. It seemed that it was better to save doing ideological work right before going to bed.

Su Dazhi basfully said, "Sis, I dreamed of you too."

Su Xiaozhi rolled his eyes. Copycat.

Su Yu smiled. "Okay, I know you're all sensible. Sis is happy. Remember, regardless if outsiders treat us well, Sis will already treat you well."

The brothers repeatedly nodded.

While stirring the cornmeal mush in the pot, Su Lin watched her siblings talking on the side. They acted as if she didn't exist. She felt wronged and at a loss. If she had known, she wouldn't have continued sulking. Anyways, sulking didn't work!

After breakfast, Su Xiaozhi headed to the factory with Su Yu and Su Dazhi.

On the way to the factory, Su Yu kept sighing. "There aren't any permanent positions in the factory. Director Xu said there's only a temporary worker position in the loading and unloading team. She said that with Xiaozhi's physique, he definitely won't be able to do this job."

She patted her chest and said, "At that time, I promised Director Xu that Xiaozhi can definitely do it! Xiaozhi has changed. He's a man now. How could he not be able to do it? If other men can do it, Xiaozhi can do it too!"

Su Xiaozhi immediately nodded. "Yeah, Sis, I can definitely do it."

Su Yu smiled with satisfaction. "Isn't that so? All real men can do this job. If they can't do it, then they're not men. Xiaozhi, you have to prove that you're capable, got it?"

Su Xiaozhi promised, "Sis, I can definitely do it."

Su Yu patted his shoulder. "If you really can't do it, that's okay. Just go back to school."

"... I can definitely do it! I'm a man!"
