''Want to see a magic trick?''
''Boy... I'm Death, I've seen magic, now do you agree to this or not?''
A formless entity relaxed back in the chair he was in, kicking his feet up onto Death's desk. ''So, if I do, I get to keep my abilities and talents right?''
Death reached forward, using a finger to push the foot off her table. ''I have already acquired you a perfect... Body, for your talents... As for your abilities, you will need to train yourself in them again, as your new body will not be able to handle the strain of how you used to use them so freely... However, due to the magical nature of the world, you're going to, that limit will be FAR higher than the previous... Infinite, if you are smart with your abilities, as I know you will be.''
The entity nodded along for a bit before he asked. ''When exactly would I be dropping in?''
''Shortly after the sorting ceremony, you will be sorted into the Slytherin house for convenience. Your name will be Adam Mortem, and you will be a part of the pure-blooded Mortem family, despite your outward appearances, your parents are dead and your family is on the decline... Not like that will stop you, any questions?''
''Latin term for Death? Does that mean I can call you Mom now?'' The entity seemed to blink its eyelashes in a feminine allure, puppy... space eyes?
Death released a long sigh before it waved its hand. ''You wouldn't be the first one to claim to be a child of mine... Certainly not the most annoying either, so do as you want. As long as you retrieve my treasures, I do not care what you do in this world.''
''So, harem seeking, rich young master plan is a go?''
''Well, you're not rich...''
The entity raised its hand to its chest, scoffing. ''Not rich 'Yet'... Will I get basic knowledge all in my 'Position' would have of the wizarding world?''
Death merely nodded, the empty eyesockets despite the rocking body seemingly 'staring' at him.
''You will also be given an updated version of the Elder wand, a sleeker model. It will grow as you do, so don't expect it to be something that could fight against the elder wand right away... Though, it would be amusing how easy you could steal the elder wand with enough time.''
Waving a hand, a wand appeared on the desk in front of him.
Staring at it for a moment the entity picked it up, color seeming to begin spreading along the entity as his form began to appear slowly as energies continued to focus on him.
''I thought you said... Sleeker?''
Death chuckled softly. ''The 'Mortem' Family is a well-known wand-making family from the old days, but don't worry. The wand can also shift its form freely since I'm going to assume you don't want people to know what your wand looks like even while you're... committing to your job.''
Adam began to size it down, shifting its strange appearance to a more simple black and gold variant, it going nicely with the golden eyes he now had as they glowed into existence.
Much like his name he looked almost raised from death, his skin far paler than might be healthy for some, but that was purely for a simple reason.
His skin seemed to shiver gently as it began to slowly change into a more tanned healthy appearance. He stared at it will an amused expression as he stood, clothing starting to appear on his tall body. ''I'm limited to skin now? That's fine, even a change of skin can make people forget your face.''
Death chuckled darkly. ''Adam Mortem, The First Changling, do well not to cause too much trouble... You might have your minor talents of the mind, and your abilities as a Changling, but be careful... There are many eyes within the halls of Hogwarts.''
Adam gave a stage performer's bow as he began to fade away, his handsome face smirking as he was sent off into the new world.
Death leaned back in her chair, pressing her fingertips together she looked to the ceiling of her office. ''I'll have fun watching him... I always loved loot goblins.''

Adam opened his eyes, he was stopped in time, sitting at a large table with students sitting around him, their robes matching his own with the green tie and beautiful embroidery snake.
Time froze around him he looked up and around a bit before the memories began to mingle into his own, in such a seamless manner that it was near impossible to distinguish them from his own, the only reason he could be due to the mind arts he was already studying in. ''Art of protecting the mind''
Adam wasn't exactly the 'First' Changling by far, but in the world, he had come from, one not exactly remarkable in any way. He was born with a rare health condition that turned into far more, his increased brain activity caused a few abnormalities in his habits and self as a whole.
It also unlocked the abilities of the mind, rumored ones such as ''Telekensis.'' and its many offshoots, of course now he was only at a level that allowed him to pull small trinkets to him, but before he died he had enough strength to lift cars whole, which was incredibly powerful in the line of work he was in.
Thievery, he stole and picked at things he wants, either for contracts or for himself. He simply had a... hungering, for the shinies.
His mind began to wonder about the memories of this life, parents he didn't even know barely, too bothered with their work to involve him, their last 'Gift' being the one he now had, one that matched his hidden 'condition' which allowed him to change his appearance, just as the wand allowed him to do, it all connected on a deeper connection now then it had been before.
He sorted through the memories, making sure he got refreshed over useful information, names, companies, and ways to make money. He sees why this was the 'Perfect' body for him to accommodate. It already had the gift of 'Sight' as he liked to call it.
It sounded fancy, but it was something he trained in religiously, his ability to 'Pick out Details.' Originally centered around what he wanted to steal, it's price, how much he could fetch on it in a black market, many things. But this body already had it from a young age, explained due to his increased brain activity and magic, it made him understand things to a deeper level, to think about things others wouldn't.
His eyes focused as he came across his first 'Target'.
Draco Malfoy had recently purchased a new watch, this wizarding world was more... 'Accommodating' of muggle technology, but few would admit it.
Mostly just Pure-Bloods flexing wealth wherever they could, which included the newest, fanciest flying car.
His mind then brought up the image of the protagonist of this world, an eighteen-year-old girl, battered and bruised, down on her luck, and thrust into a house of zealous hatred and pureblood bigotry. Harriet Potter.
His target was a female, down on her luck, down in her esteem, abused, and looking for love. This must be a setup, Death was always a lover of the romantics...
Did he mind? No, after all, he is nobody above morality rates, and the soft emerald eyes and beautiful black curls made Harriet a beauty, well into maturity but still unpolished.
Time began to shift around him as it continued once more, being returned to his position when it stopped he returned to the food that had appeared not moments before. Without raising his voice too loudly he spoke to his side.
''Eat from the outsides of the table inwards, so that when your sleeves hang they won't get into the food...'' His voice was deep and gentle to listen to, softened as he spoke only to one next to him.
Harriet flinched at his comment, her hands tightening around her utensils a moment before she spoke. ''How did you notice?''
''Your plate is empty, while everyone else has begun, continue staring forward and do as I instruct.'' Adam straightened himself, straightening his back properly he straightened his arms, despite how the robes were loose around the arms, he ate without them getting in the way, balancing their excess weight at the back of his elbow, keeping them just at the middle of his forearm.
Harriet follow him the best she could, occasionally messing up but everyone was too focused on their conversations and the food to care.
''Why are you helping me?'' She whispered, hiding her lips behind a napkin as she wiped her mouth slowly, following how the other women around the table were doing it.
''Because unlike the idiots around us, I've put some things together. Your eyes are full of wonder, even the slightest display of magic surprises you. When the food appeared you nearly jumped out of your seat... Harriet Potter, the Girl Who Lived, hasn't been heard from in many, many years... Meaning you have been away from the magical world, after all the best way to hide you from the forces that worked with the man who supposedly 'Killed' is to put you in a place they hate above all... The muggle world.''
Adam wiped his lips as he finished eating, despite how it appeared in the movies and books, the meal was incredibly diverse, and if there was something you wanted but couldn't reach, it would make its way towards you. The food was also delicious, magic or not, he would need to get himself a house elf, purely so they could cook for him.
''I will speak more of it later, but for now, I want you to know, that I am not helping you purely out of kindness, I do have something you can help me with. I will speak to you in your room after we are led to the dorms.''
Harriet watched him, her beautiful green eyes attempting to search the golden eye she could see as he focused on other conversations as he tried to pick out information he might find useful. She felt nothing... bad from him, and unlike others. She knew he wanted something from her, as long as it wasn't anything too bad, she wouldn't mind helping him, as long as he helped her.
